Kitten Space Agency (KSA) is RocketWerkz’s in-development, free-to-download pre-alpha space simulation—not an official Kerbal Space Program sequel. RocketWerkz says it had been one of the final three studios bidding to make Kerbal Space Program 2 (KSP2), and that after KSP2 closed, Dean Hall met again with original KSP creator Felipe Falanghe and the studio moved ahead with its long-considered KSP-like project.
How KSP2’s closure connects to Kitten Space Agency
RocketWerkz, the studio led by DayZ creator Dean Hall, says it was one of the final three original bids to develop KSP2, but was not selected. The studio’s retrospective says it had revisited the idea of making a KSP-like game before, but saw the licensed franchise as an obstacle. After KSP2 closed, Hall met again with Falanghe, and RocketWerkz moved into pre-production on KSA. The studio had previously explored basic orbital mechanics with its BRUTAL framework, but had not proceeded with the project then. RocketWerkz’s December 16, 2025 retrospective describes this sequence from the studio’s perspective.
That account makes KSP2’s closure a catalyst for revisiting KSA, not a complete explanation of why KSP2 closed or the sole cause of KSA. RocketWerkz’s retrospective does not give an authoritative, detailed account of KSP2’s closure causes or a full closure date. Take-Two’s February 2023 launch announcement establishes that KSP2 entered PC Early Access on February 24, 2023, at an introductory price of $49.99; it does not explain the later closure.
What Kitten Space Agency is—and is not
KSA is a space simulation project from RocketWerkz, built around the broad rocket-engineering premise associated with KSP. It is best understood as a spiritual successor or independent KSP-like project, not a Kerbal-branded sequel, a completed replacement for KSP2, or a finished game. RocketWerkz described it as pre-alpha in its December 2025 update; the official KSA page on Ahwoo currently labels it a “Free Pre-Alpha Release.”

Hall has also described a wider aspiration for games to spark interest in subjects beyond gaming. In a March 2025 PC Gamer interview, he said, “I think videogames have a role to play in inspiring people.” That is an expression of intent, not evidence that KSA is already an educational product or that its planned features are complete.
Can you download KSA now?
Yes. As of October 8, 2026, Ahwoo lists KSA as a free pre-alpha download and provides access through its product page. The page displays Windows and Linux access information; an Ahwoo forum update in May 2026 also says Linux builds are available from the main KSA page. Because it is pre-alpha, treat the download as an in-development build rather than a finished game.

How KSA differs from KSP2 right now
| Question | Kerbal Space Program 2 | Kitten Space Agency |
|---|---|---|
| Project and developer | Commercial sequel published by Private Division and developed by Intercept; Take-Two’s 2023 launch announcement identifies the Early Access release. | Space simulation project from RocketWerkz, available through Ahwoo. |
| Status covered by the cited sources | Launched in PC Early Access on February 24, 2023; that launch notice does not establish current availability or explain the later closure. | Pre-alpha, according to the current Ahwoo product page. |
| Access and price information | Take-Two announced an introductory $49.99 price for the 2023 PC Early Access launch; this is historical launch pricing, not a statement of today’s price. | Free pre-alpha download with optional contributions, according to Ahwoo. |
| Relationship to the KSP franchise | An official Kerbal Space Program sequel. | A KSP-like spiritual successor project, not presented as an official Kerbal-branded sequel. |
The practical difference is not simply one title replacing the other: the available evidence describes KSP2 as a commercial Early Access sequel at launch and KSA as a separate, free pre-alpha project. The sources do not establish a like-for-like comparison of their current technical quality or features.

What RocketWerkz says about KSA’s funding
In its July 7, 2026 update, RocketWerkz reported that community contributions had passed $200,000 and represented around 2% of the studio’s total real-world development costs to that point. Those are company- and platform-reported figures, not independently audited totals. They show that optional contributions support the project, while accounting for only a small share of the costs RocketWerkz said it had incurred.
