kyofonts.dll Missing: Trace the Kyocera Driver on Windows 11

kyofonts.dll missing errors usually point to a damaged or incomplete legacy Kyocera printer-driver package, not a general-purpose Windows runtime. The exact messages may read:

This application failed to start because kyofonts.dll was not found.
The program can't start because kyofonts.dll is missing from your computer.
The file kyofonts.dll is missing or corrupted.
Error loading kyofonts.dll. The specified module could not be found.
KYOFONTS.DLL file could not be loaded.

Although public Windows file records describe kyofonts.dll as “Fonts for Kyocera FS-Series Page Printers,” it should not be treated as a file that every current Windows installation requires. It is associated with legacy Kyocera FS-series printer support and printer-driver packages that could be included with Windows or installed separately.

Which fix applies to you

Start with the situation that matches when the error appears:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • The error appears when printing: remove and reinstall the printer with Windows Update or the exact Kyocera driver for the model.
  • The error began after a printer reinstall, Windows upgrade, or driver update: reinstall the complete printer package rather than copying the missing DLL.
  • The error appears when launching an old application: repair or reinstall that application and its Kyocera printer component.
  • Antivirus recently quarantined the file: inspect Protection History, but do not restore an unverified file. Install a fresh signed driver package instead.
  • Several Windows files are failing: run DISM, then SFC, and restart Windows.
  • The error appears at every startup but no Kyocera printer is installed: remove the obsolete Kyocera application, startup entry, scheduled task, or printer-driver reference.
  • Printing also causes spooler crashes or stuck jobs: restart Print Spooler, remove obsolete printer drivers through supported Windows tools, and reinstall the correct package.
  • The problem began immediately after a driver or Windows change: use System Restore or uninstall the recent change if those recovery options are available.

Do not begin by downloading kyofonts.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement can have the wrong version, architecture, dependencies, or even malicious content, while leaving the damaged printer installation untouched.

What kyofonts.dll is

kyofonts.dll is a historical printer-driver component whose description is Fonts for Kyocera FS-Series Page Printers. It is connected with Microsoft Windows printer support and older Kyocera FS-series packages, not with Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a common game runtime.

Legacy Kyocera packages may contain:

  • kyofonts.dll
  • Kyocera printer model description files with a .gpd extension
  • Other printer-related DLLs
  • Files staged in Windows printer-driver locations

That relationship explains why the error can appear after removing a printer, cleaning the Driver Store, restoring an old disk image, or installing an older printer application. A program may be looking for the file because its associated driver package is incomplete, not because Windows has lost a universally required system component.

Public historical inventories disagree about exact versions, sizes, hashes, locations, and architectures. Some records describe a 32-bit DLL, while another historical record shows an amd64 Driver Store path. Those records should be treated as package-specific evidence, not as a universal specification for every copy of the file.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The file is therefore not automatically malware, but its presence alone does not prove authenticity. A genuine copy should come from a Windows Update installation or an official Kyocera driver package that matches your printer and Windows architecture.

Identify what is actually calling the file

Before repairing anything, determine whether Windows, a printer driver, or an old application is requesting kyofonts.dll.

Check when the message appears

Note the exact trigger:

  1. Start Windows.
  2. Launch a particular application.
  3. Open a print dialog.
  4. Send a document to a Kyocera printer.
  5. Install or remove a printer.
  6. Run a setup program or document workflow.

If the error appears only when printing, focus on the printer driver. If it appears while launching one old program, that program may include an obsolete printer setup or print-management component. If it appears at startup with no printer action, look for stale software that still loads a removed driver.

A message saying “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean kyofonts.dll itself is absent. Windows can display that wording when a dependency required by the DLL or its calling application is missing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Record the printer model

Look at the printer label, its Windows entry, or the old application’s printer configuration. Record the exact model rather than searching for a generic “Kyocera driver.”

To check the current Windows printer entry:

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth & devices.
  3. Select Printers & scanners.
  4. Select the Kyocera printer.
  5. Record the displayed model and connection type.

If the printer is networked, also note whether Windows added it automatically or whether it was installed through a company print server. A print-server driver may need to be replaced by an administrator rather than repaired locally.

Check Windows architecture

The replacement package must match both the printer and the operating-system architecture.

To check Windows:

  1. Open Start > Settings > System > About.
  2. Find System type.
  3. Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.

Do not decide where to copy a DLL based only on the filename. On 64-bit Windows, System32 conventionally contains 64-bit system components and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit components, but printer packages use their own installation and Driver Store rules. The correct architecture belongs in the driver package selected by Windows or Kyocera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the Kyocera printer

This is the most likely fix when the error involves printing or started after a driver change.

Microsoft recommends using Windows Update for printer drivers first, followed by the printer manufacturer’s package when necessary.

Remove the existing printer

  1. Open Start > Settings.
  2. Select Bluetooth & devices.
  3. Select Printers & scanners.
  4. Select the affected Kyocera printer.
  5. Select Remove.
  6. Confirm the removal.
  7. Restart Windows.

If more than one entry exists for the same printer, remove obsolete duplicates as well. Keep a note of the one that was previously working if several models or queues are listed.

  • High quality output
  • Standard wireless

Add it again through Windows

  1. Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select Add device.
  3. Wait while Windows searches.
  4. Select the correct Kyocera printer.
  5. Complete the installation.
  6. Print a test page from the printer’s properties.

If automatic detection fails:

  1. Select Add device.
  2. Wait briefly for the search to complete.
  3. Select Add manually.
  4. Choose the appropriate connection method.
  5. Enter the printer name, IP address, or shared-printer path.
  6. Allow Windows Update to select a driver when offered.
  7. Print a test page.

If Windows does not provide a suitable package, obtain the driver from Kyocera’s official support area using the exact model, Windows version, and architecture. Do not substitute a driver for a similar-looking FS-series model.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

When the reinstall succeeds, the print queue should open normally and a test page should print without the kyofonts.dll message. If the error returns immediately, continue with the manufacturer-package steps rather than copying a standalone DLL.

Manually checking dozens of printer packages and matching their architecture can be tedious. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention, while the full version performs the driver installation; it is optional, and the exact Kyocera model package remains the authoritative fix.

Fix 2: Install the exact Kyocera package

Use this path when Windows installs the printer but still reports the missing file, or when the printer is an older FS-series model.

  1. Identify the exact printer model.
  2. Confirm whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit.
  3. Remove the current printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  4. Download the model-specific driver from Kyocera’s official support portal.
  5. Choose the package for the correct Windows version and architecture.
  6. Run the installer as an administrator if the package requires it.
  7. Follow the installer’s connection prompts.
  8. Restart Windows if requested.
  9. Open Printers & scanners and verify that the installed model is correct.
  10. Print a test page.

If the installer offers multiple driver types, choose the one documented for your model and Windows release. Do not select a package solely because its file list contains kyofonts.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the installer refuses to run, right-click it, select Properties, open the Compatibility tab, and review the available compatibility settings. Use this only for a genuinely legacy installer, and avoid forcing an unrelated driver onto a modern Windows installation.

If the error belongs to an old application rather than the Windows print queue, reinstall the application’s printer component as well. An application that stores its own printer files can continue requesting kyofonts.dll even after the Windows printer has been removed.

Fix 3: Repair the application that reports the error

When the message appears only with one old program, the printer may not be the active problem.

First identify the program name in the error window. Then:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Find the affected application.
  3. Select the three-dot menu.
  4. Choose Advanced options if available.
  5. Select Repair.
  6. Test the application.
  7. If Repair is unavailable or fails, choose Uninstall.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Reinstall the application from its original trusted installer.
  10. Reinstall its printer or Kyocera component if the setup program offers one.

Some older programs retain references to a printer that no longer exists. If the error occurs at startup, check the program’s settings for a default printer or print module. Removing the stale configuration may be more appropriate than adding an old DLL.

If the application is business software, ask its vendor or administrator for a current installer that supports your Windows version. Do not assume that a file listed in an old application directory belongs in System32.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine safely

A security product may have removed the file, but that does not establish whether the file was genuine or tampered with.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Look for the event involving kyofonts.dll or the Kyocera installer.
  5. Expand the event and review its path, detection name, and originating package.

Do not select Restore merely because the filename matches. A safer recovery path is:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Remove the affected printer.
  2. Run a scan if Windows Security requests it.
  3. Download a fresh driver from Windows Update or Kyocera’s official support portal.
  4. Install the signed package.
  5. Test printing again.

If antivirus repeatedly quarantines a fresh official installer, stop and investigate the detection. Contact the security-product vendor or your administrator rather than adding an exclusion for an unknown DLL.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC

Use these commands when kyofonts.dll is part of an inbox Windows printer package and other Windows components are also failing. They are not a substitute for reinstalling a damaged Kyocera driver.

  • SPEED: Up to 27 pages per minute
  • CONTROL PANEL: Color 4.3" TSI with touch panel
  • EFFORTLESS SETUP: Connect to a Wi-Fi network easily using your mobile device.

Microsoft’s supported order is DISM first, followed by System File Checker.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Type Command Prompt.
  3. Right-click Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Approve the User Account Control prompt.
  6. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  1. Wait for DISM to finish.
  2. Run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
  2. Restart Windows.

DISM repairs the Windows component source that SFC uses. SFC then scans protected Windows files and restores files it can repair.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If DISM reports that it cannot find source files, make sure Windows Update is working and try again after restarting. If SFC reports that it found and repaired files, restart and repeat the original action. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, review the result and continue with printer-driver reinstallation or System Restore rather than copying kyofonts.dll manually.

Repeatedly running SFC without fixing the underlying driver package will not rebuild a missing Kyocera installation.

Running these commands by hand is useful, but interpreting repeated repair results can be difficult. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows problems and show what needs repair, while the full version performs the repair; it is optional, and DISM plus SFC remain the Microsoft-supported commands.

Fix 6: Restart Print Spooler and clear the active queue

Use this path if the missing-file message appears alongside stuck jobs, a disappearing printer, or spooler crashes.

Restart the spooler

  1. Press Windows key + R.
  2. Type services.msc.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Find Print Spooler.
  5. Right-click it.
  6. Select Restart.
  7. Try printing again.

If Restart is unavailable:

  1. Right-click Print Spooler.
  2. Select Stop.
  3. Open the printer queue and cancel pending jobs.
  4. Return to Services.
  5. Right-click Print Spooler.
  6. Select Start.

If the spooler stops again, an installed driver or print processor may be crashing it. Remove the affected printer and reinstall the current model-specific package.

Use Device Manager carefully

Device Manager can help identify a damaged printer entry, but it is not a license to delete random driver files.

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand Printers and Print queues.
  4. Locate the Kyocera device.
  5. Right-click it and select Uninstall device if the entry is clearly obsolete or damaged.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Reinstall the printer through Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.

If Device Manager displays a warning icon, open Properties and read the device status. Record the error code before uninstalling anything. Do not remove an unrelated printer, scanner, or USB device because its name looks similar.

Fix 7: Remove an obsolete driver package through supported tools

Do not manually delete files from:

C:WindowsSystem32DriverStore

The Driver Store is a protected collection of staged driver packages. Removing individual DLLs can damage other devices and leave Windows with incomplete package metadata.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On supported Windows versions, you can enumerate installed driver packages:

pnputil /enum-drivers

Look for a Kyocera-related published name, provider, or .inf package. Do not guess the package identifier.

If you have positively identified the correct package, the supported removal form is:

pnputil /delete-driver oem##.inf /uninstall

Replace oem##.inf only with the exact Kyocera package identified on your computer. Removing the wrong package can disable another printer or device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After removal:

  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Re-add the printer.
  3. Install the correct package from Windows Update or Kyocera.
  4. Print a test page.

If you cannot confidently identify the package, stop at enumeration and use the printer’s normal removal and reinstall process.

Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change

If kyofonts.dll worked until a Windows update, driver installation, or cleanup operation, System Restore may return the driver registration and related files to an earlier state.

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Create a restore point.
  3. Open the result.
  4. Select System Restore.
  5. Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
  6. Review the affected programs and drivers.
  7. Start the restore if the point is appropriate.
  8. Restart Windows.
  9. Test the printer or application.

System Restore does not replace personal documents, but it can remove drivers and applications installed after the selected restore point. If no suitable restore point exists, reinstall the affected Kyocera package instead.

Why regsvr32 is usually wrong

Do not run regsvr32 kyofonts.dll as a generic repair step.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. A printer font-support DLL is not automatically a self-registering COM component. Registering it will not recreate a missing Driver Store package, restore a .gpd printer description, or repair the print spooler.

If you run it and receive an error such as a missing entry point, that does not prove the file is corrupt. It usually means the command is inappropriate for that DLL.

How to verify a replacement file

The safest replacement is not a loose DLL. It is a complete driver package obtained through Windows Update or the official Kyocera support portal.

Before trusting any file:

  • Confirm that it came from Windows Update or the exact Kyocera installer.
  • Check that the installation path belongs to the printer-driver package.
  • Open the file’s Properties dialog and review the Digital Signatures tab when a signature is present.
  • Match the driver to the exact printer model.
  • Match the package to 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.
  • Scan the installer with Windows Security.
  • Do not compare a random website’s hash or size with a historical inventory and assume the result is authoritative.

A legacy Driver Store path may resemble:

C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryprnky001.inf_...Amd64

The folder suffix is installation-specific. Do not create this directory, hard-code its name, or copy a downloaded file into it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Prevention

After the printer works again:

  1. Keep the exact Kyocera model and driver package name with your device records.
  2. Prefer Windows Update or Kyocera’s official model-specific package.
  3. Remove obsolete duplicate printer queues.
  4. Avoid registry cleaners and Driver Store cleaning utilities.
  5. Do not delete printer-driver files manually.
  6. Keep a restore point before replacing a working legacy printer driver.
  7. If an old application depends on a printer, document that dependency before removing the printer.
  8. Verify antivirus detections before restoring quarantined files.

FAQ

Is kyofonts.dll malware?

The filename is associated with a historical Kyocera FS-series printer component, so it is not inherently malware. Authenticity depends on the file’s source, signature, path, and driver package. A copy from an unknown download site should not be trusted simply because the name is correct.

Is it required by Windows 10 or Windows 11?

There is no basis for saying that every Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation includes or requires it. It may appear when a legacy Kyocera printer package is installed or staged. Modern Windows may use a different driver path or may not need the file at all.

Which Kyocera printer model uses it?

The available evidence connects it to legacy Kyocera FS-series printer packages, but it does not establish one universal model list. Use the exact printer model and the package supplied for that model.

Can I copy it into System32 or SysWOW64?

No. The correct package may include related files, registration data, architecture-specific components, and printer descriptions. Copying one DLL can create version conflicts and does not repair the package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I register it with regsvr32?

Usually not. regsvr32 is for self-registering DLLs and is not a general missing-file repair command. Reinstall the printer or application instead.

What if the error appears but I do not own a Kyocera printer?

An old application, startup entry, scheduled task, restored disk image, or leftover driver may still reference the file. Check recently installed software and startup items, then uninstall the obsolete Kyocera component rather than adding the DLL.

What if the message says the module could not be found?

That wording can identify a missing dependency rather than kyofonts.dll itself. Reinstall the complete driver package and check for spooler or application errors instead of replacing only the named file.

When should I use DISM and SFC?

Use them when multiple Windows components are failing or evidence points to Windows component corruption. For an isolated Kyocera printing failure, reinstall the matching printer driver first.

Free tools Windows power users keep installed

One-click scans. No signup required.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What information is needed if none of these fixes work?

Record the exact error text, when it appears, the printer model, Windows version and architecture, the application involved, recent driver or Windows changes, antivirus actions, and the result of the printer reinstall. That information distinguishes a missing package from a dependency, stale startup reference, architecture mismatch, or broader Windows corruption.
