Larian Studios’ new game is titled Divinity. Announced at The Game Awards in December 2025, it was described by host Geoff Keighley as Larian’s “biggest game ever” and “even larger than Baldur’s Gate 3.” That is promotional framing, not a measured comparison: no map size, playtime, or other metric was given.
What Larian has confirmed about Divinity
- The game is titled Divinity, not Divinity: Original Sin.
- Larian revealed it with a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards in December 2025.
- Larian founder and CEO Swen Vincke called it the studio’s first game entitled “Divinity” and said it marks the beginning of something with “more breadth, depth, and intimacy” than anything the studio had created before. Those are his descriptions of the project, not published technical comparisons. PC Gamer reported Vincke’s statement.
What “larger than Baldur’s Gate 3” means—and doesn’t mean
Keighley’s description does not specify what “larger” refers to. It should not be taken as confirmation of a bigger map, longer campaign, more quests, or any particular feature. Larian has expressed an ambition for breadth and depth, but the available announcement does not quantify those terms.
Is Divinity a sequel to Original Sin 2?
Larian says the new game has a completely new story, while also noting that players of earlier games may recognize continuity and characters. The studio has not described it as a direct sequel to Divinity: Original Sin 2 or said that prior games are required. Larian’s FAQ puts it this way: “Divinity will offer a completely new story, but there’s some continuity and characters for those who’ve played previous games. You might even pick up on certain things others may not!”
Do you need to play an older Divinity game first?
No prerequisite has been announced. If you want optional series context, Divinity: Original Sin 2 — Definitive Edition is a reasonable place to start: Larian describes it as a standalone game, and says it supports solo and multiplayer play. It may help you recognize connections, but Larian’s wording does not make it required preparation.

Larian lists the game in its catalog. The studio announced availability on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S; its support FAQ also lists PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and iPad. Check the relevant regional storefront for current edition and purchase availability.

The announcement details cited here do not establish a current release date or window, a confirmed platform list for the new Divinity, or specific gameplay features. The December 2025 reveal alone is not enough to treat any of those as confirmed now. Look to Larian’s official news page for updates.
