How Last Epoch started on Reddit
Judd Cobler, the game’s director and Eleventh Hour Games CEO, described Last Epoch as an after-hours project he started on Reddit. In a July 2023 post in the game’s subreddit, he said the team spent evenings planning and creating a vertical slice to take to Kickstarter. His account supports the description of Last Epoch as a game with Reddit beginnings, but not the broader claim that every developer or the whole released game was made by Reddit users. GamesBeat’s 2025 retrospective reported that Cobler recruited people on Reddit, initially without funding or game-development experience. It said the Kickstarter campaign raised $255,378 from 2,824 backers, surpassing its $210,000 goal. That community-backed beginning led into Early Access and continued development. How many copies has Last Epoch sold?
The 2.5 million figure is a historical milestone, not the latest reported total. GamesBeat reported that Last Epoch had sold more than 2.5 million copies in its April 17, 2025 article, updated June 18, 2025. On October 2, 2026, KRAFTON Japan announced that worldwide cumulative sales had exceeded 3 million units. What is in the current Last Epoch update?
Season 5, titled Rage of the Frostborn, launched October 1, 2026. Eleventh Hour Games’ official Steam announcement feed lists the 1.5 patch overview and hotfix notes dated October 1 and 2, alongside previews covering new skills, items and faction changes.
