The 60-second answer
This is a game-owned DLL, not a normal Windows component. Public game manifests associate it with Ubisoft titles including Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction and I Am Alive. Known copies are 32-bit files stored inside the game’s installation directory, commonly beneath a srcsystem or srcSYSTEM folder.

Do not download a replacement from a random DLL website, copy it into System32, or run regsvr32. First identify the game showing the error, then use Steam’s file verification or the Ubisoft launcher’s repair function. If repair cannot restore the file, reinstall the game from its official installation source.
What causes the error
The most common causes are:
- The game file was deleted or corrupted.
- Antivirus software quarantined the original file.
- An update or installation stopped partway through.
- The game was moved manually or its folder structure changed.
- A mod, crack, or unofficial repack replaced or removed files.
- The DLL exists, but one of its dependencies is missing.
- The replacement file has the wrong architecture or belongs to another game.
- Windows, graphics drivers, or storage components have broader problems.
The filename alone does not identify one universal file. Public manifests show substantially different copies for different games, including one copy of roughly 98 KB and another of roughly 330 KB. Matching filenames do not make those files interchangeable.

A 32-bit game can require a 32-bit DLL even on 64-bit Windows. That is normal and does not mean you should place the file in C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Fix 1: Identify the game and inspect its folder
Before repairing anything, determine which executable is requesting the file.
- Read the title bar or text in the error dialog.
- Note whether the game was started from Steam, Ubisoft Connect, a desktop shortcut, or another launcher.
- In the launcher, open the game’s properties or installation settings.
- Locate the installation directory.
- Look for a path similar to:
srcsystemLeadD3DXenonR.dllsrcSYSTEMLeadD3DXenonR.dll
Do not assume that a missing file in one Ubisoft game can be copied from another. The known game-specific builds differ in size and may have different dependencies.
If the DLL is present, do not immediately replace it. Check whether its location is inside the game’s expected directory and whether the error says “specified module could not be found.” That wording can mean the named DLL exists but a dependency required by it does not.
Fix 2: Verify the game through Steam
Steam’s verification process is the safest first repair for a Steam installation.
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Start the game again from Steam.
Steam compares the local installation with its stored game files and can restore missing or damaged files. A successful repair should allow the game to start or should produce a more specific error.
If verification reports that files were replaced but the same error returns:

- Close the game and Steam.
- Open your antivirus protection history or quarantine.
- Check whether
LeadD3DXenonR.dllwas removed. - Restore it only if it came from the legitimate Steam game installation.
- Add an appropriate exception only according to your security vendor’s guidance.
- Run Steam verification again.
If the file is quarantined again, do not keep downloading replacements. Contact the security vendor or the game’s publisher and investigate the exact detection.
Fix 3: Repair the Ubisoft installation
For a game installed through Ubisoft Connect:
- Open Ubisoft Connect.
- Select Games.
- Select the affected game.
- Open the game’s properties or management menu.
- Choose Verify files, Repair, or the equivalent available option.
- Wait for the scan and repair to complete.
- Start the game again.
The exact label can vary between launcher versions. Use the launcher’s built-in repair function rather than copying files from another computer.
If repair is unavailable or fails repeatedly, uninstall the game through its official launcher or Windows, restart the computer, and reinstall it from the legitimate Steam or Ubisoft source. Back up saved games first if they are stored outside cloud synchronization.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine and controlled-folder protection
Security software may remove a game file after an update, disk cleanup, or a change in detection rules.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Search for an event involving the affected game or
LeadD3DXenonR.dll. - Review the file path and detection details.
- Restore the file only when the path belongs to the official game installation.
- Verify the game files again through its launcher.
Also review ransomware or controlled-folder protection if the game can start but cannot write required files. Do not disable antivirus protection globally. If a file from an unofficial repack or modified installation is detected, remove that installation and obtain the game through an official source.
Fix 5: Reinstall after a failed update or moved installation
A manually moved game folder can leave shortcuts, launcher records, registry data, or dependencies pointing to the old location.
Use the launcher to move the game when that feature is available. If the installation was copied manually:

- Record the game’s save location.
- Uninstall the game from its launcher.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove only the remaining game folder if the uninstaller leaves it behind.
- Reinstall to a normal library location.
- Run the launcher’s verification process.
- Start the game without mods.
- Reapply compatible mods only after the unmodified game works.
If an unofficial repack, crack, or modified installer was involved, replace it with an official installation instead of attempting to repair individual files.
Fix 6: Restore missing legacy runtime dependencies
LeadD3DXenonR.dll is not a Microsoft DirectX redistributable file. Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime can install older side-by-side components such as D3DX, XInput, XAudio, and XACT, but it does not install this game-owned DLL.
Install the Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime only when the error also names files such as d3dx9_*.dll, xinput1_3.dll, or xaudio2_7.dll.
If the game specifically reports a missing legacy Windows feature:
- Press Windows+R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Expand Legacy Components.
- Enable DirectPlay only if the game requires it.
- Click OK.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
Do not enable unrelated features as a general DLL repair.

An old game may fail after a Windows update or driver change, especially if the error appears alongside graphics initialization problems.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Launch the game again.
For a clean repair, obtain the driver from the graphics hardware manufacturer’s official support channel. If Device Manager reports no problem and the game still reports a missing LeadD3DXenonR.dll, return to game-file verification rather than repeatedly reinstalling drivers.

Manually checking hardware IDs, manufacturer pages, and driver packages can take time when several components are outdated. Fix 8: Repair Windows only when other components are also failing
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They generally cannot restore a DLL that belongs to a game.
Use them when you also have Windows crashes, damaged system files, failed updates, or multiple unrelated applications failing.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the game files again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. The commands may repair Windows dependencies, but they will not normally recreate LeadD3DXenonR.dll inside a game folder.
Repeatedly hunting through system files and rerunning repairs without knowing what changed is inefficient. LeadD3DXenonR.dll is an ordinary application runtime or rendering DLL. It is not identified as a COM or ActiveX component that needs registration.

Do not run:
regsvr32 LeadD3DXenonR.dll
Registration will not make the game locate its file and may produce an entry-point or module error.
Do not copy the DLL into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- Another game’s folder
- A random directory on the
PATH
Windows normally searches the application directory early in its DLL search process. The game should receive the copy supplied for its own installation.
If the error changes after repair
A changed error is useful evidence.
- If another DLL is named, repair that dependency separately.
- If the message says “specified module could not be found,” the named DLL may exist while another dependency is missing.
- If the message says “entry point not found,” restore the original vendor file and verify the whole installation.
- If you see
0xc000007b, suspect architecture mismatch, corruption, or an altered replacement file. - If the message says the file is not designed to run on Windows, remove the replacement and reinstall the correct game build.
- If verification repeatedly restores and then loses the file, investigate antivirus quarantine, ransomware protection, disk errors, or unauthorized modifications.
The file should normally be a 32-bit copy located inside the game that requested it. A digital signature can provide useful provenance information, but an unexpected or suspicious signature is not proof that a file belongs to the legitimate installation. The safest source remains the official game installer or launcher.

Frequently asked questions
Is LeadD3DXenonR.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with specific third-party games and should normally remain in the game’s installation directory.

Is it a DirectX file?
No. The name is not a Microsoft DirectX redistributable component. Install legacy DirectX only when the error also names a missing DirectX-era dependency.
Can I download the DLL separately?
That is unsafe and often ineffective. A download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, the wrong game-specific build, or a damaged file. Use Steam verification, Ubisoft repair, or an official reinstall.
Should I copy it to System32?
No. A 32-bit game can require a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows, but the correct location is the game’s own directory, not a Windows system folder.
Why does verification restore the file but the game still fail?
The DLL may depend on another missing component, antivirus may remove it again, or the installation may contain additional corruption. Check the new error message and antivirus history, then reinstall if verification cannot produce a stable installation.
Can SFC or DISM restore it?
Usually not. They repair protected Windows components, not game-owned files. Use the game’s launcher repair or reinstall process first.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
No. This is not an identified registrable COM or ActiveX DLL. Registration is not a valid fix.
What if I installed a mod?
Remove or disable the mod and test the unmodified game. If the error remains, verify all game files before reinstalling the mod.
