What was the canceled Ridge Racer game for Switch?
Video Games Chronicle reported that footage and development files said to have come from a Nintendo Switch development kit appeared online in April 2025. Its coverage attributed the project to Bandai Namco Studios Singapore, but that studio attribution—and the project’s connection to Switch—comes from leak reporting, not an official announcement by Nintendo or Bandai Namco. Video Games Chronicle’s report is the principal coverage of the alleged files.
The game is often labeled “Ridge Racer 8” in coverage and rumors. The sources reviewed do not establish that as an officially announced title, so it is more precise to call it an unreleased Ridge Racer project.
What does the leaked footage show?
VGC described the build as playable but basic, with temporary assets and environments. That suggests an early development state; the footage is not evidence of a finished game or of what a retail release would have included.

The build’s reported origin is also uncertain. VGC said the files were believed to have come from a development kit sold online, but the reporting does not establish the files’ chain of custody or independently verify the kit’s origin. The available coverage therefore supports describing this as leaked footage said to be from a Switch development kit, not as an authenticated retail build.
Was it really in development in 2017, and did it use Unreal Engine 4?
A social post by Jesse Young (@resethepicture), quoted in coverage, described the build as made with Unreal Engine 4 and dated January 6, 2017. Those details are claims in the post; the sources reviewed do not independently authenticate the build date or engine. VGC’s coverage relayed the claim.

Why was the Ridge Racer project canceled?
The available reports describe the project as canceled or unreleased, but do not establish why it was canceled, when the decision was made, or the project’s full scope. No definitive cancellation explanation from Nintendo, Bandai Namco, or a named developer appears in the sources reviewed, so any specific explanation would be speculation.
Is this the Ridge Racer release for Switch 2?
No. Nintendo Life discussed an Arcade Archives release of the original Ridge Racer separately from the leaked Switch prototype. That released product is not the alleged canceled project. Nintendo Life’s April 2025 coverage makes the distinction between the two clear.
