The 2025 Lenovo Legion 5 15 is one of the best mainstream gaming laptops available—but only in the right configuration. The AMD Ryzen 7 260, RTX 5060, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and 165Hz 2560×1600 OLED model delivers the strongest balance of display quality, gaming performance, portability, and upgradeability. Its main weaknesses are audible load noise, configuration ambiguity, mediocre camera and speakers, and OLED-specific concerns such as PWM flicker and glossy reflections.
Verdict: the right Legion 5 15 configuration is an excellent mainstream gaming laptop
Yes—with an important qualification. The 2025 Lenovo Legion 5 15 is one of the strongest mainstream gaming laptops when it is configured with the AMD Ryzen 7 260, GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 32GB of memory, a 1TB SSD, and Lenovo’s 15.1-inch 2560×1600 OLED display. That specific machine, identified as the Lenovo Legion 5 15AHP10, combines a color-rich 165Hz screen, high gaming performance, comfortable input devices, useful upgrade options, and a relatively restrained 15-inch chassis.

It is not universally the best Legion 5 15, however, because Legion 5 15 describes a family rather than one fixed specification. AMD and Intel versions use different processors and graphics options, while individual retail configurations can change the display, battery, RAM, and storage. Some models use a 15.1-inch OLED panel; others use a lower-cost 15.3-inch IPS screen. Some have an RTX 5060, while Intel variants can reach an RTX 5070.
So the buying advice is straightforward: look for the exact model number and full configuration, not just the name on the product page. The AMD RTX 5060 OLED version is the best-balanced choice for most gamers. Choose an IPS model to reduce cost or avoid OLED-specific concerns, and consider the RTX 5070 if native 2560×1600 gaming is a priority.

Check the configuration before comparing prices
The most important fact about this laptop is also the easiest to miss: there is no single universal Legion 5 15 specification. Lenovo’s AMD 15AHP10 platform offers Ryzen 7 260 processors with RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 graphics, while the Intel 15IRX10 family can extend to an RTX 5070. Display, battery capacity, memory, storage, and backlighting can also vary by SKU and region.
For this review, the reference system is the AMD 15AHP10 with the following hardware:
| Component | Reviewed configuration |
|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Ryzen 7 260, 8 cores and 16 threads, 3.8GHz base and up to 5.1GHz boost |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7, up to 115W TGP |
| Integrated graphics | AMD Radeon 780M |
| Memory | 32GB dual-channel DDR5-5600 |
| Storage | 1TB PCIe SSD |
| Display | 15.1-inch 2560×1600 OLED, 165Hz, 16:10 |
| Battery | Configuration-dependent; Lenovo offers 60Wh and 80Wh options |
A listing that says only RTX 5060 is still incomplete. Confirm the panel type, resolution, RAM capacity, SSD size, and battery before deciding that two machines are equivalent. A cheaper RTX 5060 model with a 1920×1200 IPS display may be better value than an OLED version, but it is not the same laptop experience.
The OLED display is the headline feature
The optional OLED screen is what separates the best Legion 5 15 configuration from an ordinary mainstream gaming notebook. It measures 15.1 inches and has a 2560×1600 resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 165Hz refresh rate. Lenovo rates it for full DCI-P3 coverage, 500 nits of typical SDR brightness, up to 1000 nits of HDR peak brightness, a 1ms response time, DisplayHDR True Black 600, and Dolby Vision. Factory X-Rite color calibration and TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light and flicker-free certifications are also listed.
In practical use, this is an unusually capable gaming and media panel for the class. OLED gives it deep blacks and strong contrast, while the 165Hz refresh rate suits both fast games and everyday desktop motion. The accurate sRGB and DCI-P3 profiles found in independent testing also make it more useful for photo, video, and design work than the typical budget gaming display.
HDR is a genuine advantage here rather than a specification-box exercise. The panel can become considerably brighter for HDR highlights, and the OLED contrast makes dark scenes look substantially more convincing. That does not turn the Legion 5 into a professional reference monitor, but it makes games, films, and visually rich single-player titles more impressive.
OLED drawbacks: PWM and reflections
The panel is glossy, so overhead lighting and windows can create visible reflections. The independent review also detected PWM flickering. Many users will never notice it, but people who are sensitive to OLED flicker may experience eye strain or headaches, particularly during long sessions at lower brightness.
This is a reason to compare the actual display specification rather than assuming OLED is automatically better for every buyer. Lenovo also offers a 15.3-inch 1920×1200 IPS screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, 300-nit brightness, and 100% sRGB coverage. The IPS option is less spectacular in contrast and HDR, but its matte surface may be more comfortable in bright rooms and it can be the smarter value choice.

RTX 5060 performance: excellent at 1080p and 1200p, capable at 1600p
The RTX 5060 Laptop GPU is the performance anchor of the recommended model. Lenovo specifies the chip with 8GB of GDDR7 memory and a 115W total graphics power rating. That is an important distinction: laptop RTX 5060 performance varies with the power limit, cooling system, and manufacturer tuning, so the GPU name alone does not tell the whole story.
Notebookcheck described this implementation as the fastest RTX 5060 Laptop GPU in its comparison context and found high gaming and application performance. At 1080p, it was often not far behind an RTX 5070 Laptop system in the tested comparisons. That makes the RTX 5060 Legion 5 a particularly strong fit for high-refresh gaming at 1920×1080 or 1920×1200.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe OLED panel’s native resolution is higher at 2560×1600. The RTX 5060 can handle that resolution, but expectations need to be realistic. Competitive games and well-optimized titles should make good use of the display’s refresh rate, while demanding new AAA games may require a sensible preset, upscaling, or frame generation. Native 1600p with high ray tracing settings is not the scenario in which this configuration has the most comfortable performance headroom.
NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series features include DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation. They can help compatible games produce smoother output, but they should not be treated as a guaranteed frame-rate multiplier for every title. Results depend on the game, graphics preset, ray-tracing settings, driver, image-quality mode, and whether frame generation is enabled. A review cannot responsibly promise one universal FPS figure for this laptop.
When the RTX 5070 makes sense
The Intel-based Legion 5 15IRX10 can be configured with an RTX 5070. It is the more logical choice for buyers who specifically want to play demanding games at native 2560×1600, use heavier ray tracing settings, or run GPU-intensive creative workloads. The RTX 5060 remains the better mainstream balance in many cases, particularly if the RTX 5070 configuration carries a large premium.
Do not compare an Intel RTX 5070 listing directly with the AMD RTX 5060 review unit as though the processor were the only difference. The machines can also differ in battery, screen, memory, storage, and other configuration details.

The Ryzen 7 260 has eight cores and 16 threads, a 3.8GHz base clock, and a maximum boost frequency of 5.1GHz. It also includes Radeon 780M integrated graphics and an integrated Ryzen AI NPU rated at up to 16 TOPS.
For gaming, the RTX 5060 matters more than the NPU, but the processor is appropriately matched to the system. It provides enough multithreaded capacity for modern games, browser-heavy work, compiling, office applications, and moderate content creation. The 32GB dual-channel configuration in the tested system is especially welcome for users who keep several applications open or play newer games while running voice chat, browsers, and recording software.
The integrated Radeon graphics can also be useful for lighter workloads and lower-power operation, although the laptop’s exact graphics-switching behavior depends on Lenovo’s configuration and software. One notable omission from the independent review was Advanced Optimus, so buyers seeking the most seamless automatic switching between the integrated and discrete GPUs should take that limitation seriously.

- MODEL-SPECIFIC FIT – Designed for 2026 Lenovo Legion 5i Gen 11 15-inch Intel and Legion 5a Gen 11 15-inch AMD laptops. Check the model name and device dimensions before ordering.
- MULTILAYER PROTECTION – The rigid PC top and bottom shells help protect the laptop surface from everyday scratches, scuffs and minor bumps, while the included keyboard cover and screen protector add coverage.
- VENTED BOTTOM DESIGN – Open fence-style cutouts align with the laptop ventilation areas to support normal airflow and heat dissipation without removing the bottom shell during daily use.
- MATTE ANTI-FINGERPRINT FINISH – The frosted translucent surface keeps the original laptop design visible while helping reduce fingerprints, smudges and visible scratches from regular handling.
- QUICK SNAP-ON INSTALLATION – Micro-buckle clips secure the upper and lower shells without blocking normal opening, closing or port access. Package includes 2-piece case, keyboard cover and screen protector.
Fan noise is the principal performance trade-off
The Legion 5 15 is not silent when it is doing gaming-laptop work. Independent measurements recorded roughly 25.5–26.9dB(A) at idle and approximately 34.6–50.1dB(A) under load, with the highest result occurring during demanding gaming conditions.
That means light desktop use can be reasonably unobtrusive, but Performance mode is clearly audible. The cooling system is doing the job expected of a relatively powerful RTX 5060 laptop; the trade-off is that sustained gaming sounds like sustained gaming. Headphones will mask much of the noise, but people who want a quiet room should use a quieter power mode and accept lower performance.
The laptop also retains a substantial gaming-oriented power supply, so portability involves more than the chassis weight. It is easier to carry than many 16-inch performance machines, but it is not an ultralight productivity notebook.
Battery life is good for a gaming laptop, not all-day battery life
Battery capacity varies. Lenovo lists both 60Wh and 80Wh batteries for the AMD platform. Its published maximums are 4.2 hours of MobileMark 30 testing at 250 nits for 60Wh models and 5.6 hours for 80Wh models. Lenovo also lists up to 9.6 hours of local 1080p video playback at 150 nits for both battery sizes.
Those figures are not interchangeable with ordinary mixed-use battery life. Brightness, wireless activity, refresh rate, software, power mode, panel type, and discrete-GPU activity all affect endurance. The OLED display and high refresh rate can change results, and gaming away from the charger will reduce both runtime and performance substantially.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNotebookcheck judged the tested system’s runtime good for a gaming laptop. That is the correct framing. The 80Wh version is the preferable choice for students or commuters, but the Legion 5 15 should not be purchased as an all-day unplugged productivity machine.
Build quality and portability
The design is restrained rather than aggressively decorated. The OLED model uses an aluminum lid and a PC-ABS bottom, giving it a more polished feel without turning it into a luxury ultraportable. The chassis measures approximately 344.9×255.35×19.95–21.54mm for OLED models and starts at about 1.9kg. IPS versions are thicker and start at about 2.1kg.
That is a useful size for a gaming laptop. It is substantially easier to transport than many 16-inch systems, yet it still leaves room for high-power cooling, a full keyboard, wired networking, and upgradeable components. The trade-off is familiar: the machine is portable enough for regular travel, but the charger and gaming-focused construction add to the real-world load.
Keyboard, ports, and everyday usability
The six-row keyboard has 1.6mm of key travel and received positive independent feedback for comfort. Depending on the SKU, Lenovo provides either white backlighting or 24-zone RGB backlighting. A Copilot key is included.

- Roomy Space: Features a main compartment for tablet, extra pocket in front, storage space keep the items well-organized, such as keyboard, power adapter, charger, cable, mouse,USB hub, phone, earphone, iPad or gaming laptop accessories
Connectivity is practical for a gaming setup. The AMD model lists USB4 at up to 40Gbps, USB-C DisplayPort support, HDMI output, USB-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The wired network port is useful for competitive play and large downloads, while USB-C video output gives owners another display option.
There is no built-in card reader. That is a minor omission for a pure gaming machine but a real inconvenience for photographers, video editors, and creators who regularly move files from SD cards. A USB-C SD card reader for Lenovo Legion 5 is a simple workaround, but it is another accessory to carry.
Upgradeability is a genuine strength
The Legion 5 15 is more maintainable than many thin gaming laptops. Lenovo’s documentation lists two DDR5 SODIMM slots and two M.2 SSD slots. One SSD is normally installed, leaving the second slot available for user expansion.
There is an important difference between the two storage positions: the primary M.2 slot operates at PCIe 4.0 x4, while the secondary slot operates at PCIe 4.0 x2. The second slot is still useful for a game library, project files, or extra media, but it has half the stated PCIe lane width of the primary position.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →For a compatible addition, look for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for Lenovo Legion 5 and verify the exact physical size and compatibility against the service documentation for the particular SKU. Do not assume that any M.2 drive will be equally appropriate, and do not move the operating-system drive to the secondary slot without a reason.
Memory requires similar care. Lenovo’s current supported-memory listing identifies up to 32GB for its current offerings, while Notebookcheck reported a 64GB maximum based on the modules it tested. The safe conclusion is that 32GB is the manufacturer-documented capacity for current offerings, while 64GB has independent upgrade evidence but should not be presented as an unconditional Lenovo specification.
If a laptop arrives with 16GB and you need more, a Legion 5 compatible DDR5 RAM kit is a sensible upgrade path. Match the supported DDR5-5600 SODIMM specification and, ideally, use a matched kit rather than mixing unrelated modules. Before opening the chassis, confirm the exact model’s maintenance instructions and back up important data.
Webcam and speakers are merely serviceable
Camera specifications vary from an HD 720p webcam to a 5MP unit, and both versions include an electronic privacy shutter. Check the retail listing carefully if video calls matter to you.
Independent testing found the camera noticeably weaker than the laptop’s better categories. The stereo 2W speakers, tuned by Harman and Nahimic, were considered adequate rather than impressive. They are fine for system sounds, casual video, or a quick gaming session, but they are not a substitute for a good headset when positional audio matters.
Streamers, online students, and people who attend frequent meetings should budget for a gaming headset for Lenovo Legion 5 or an external webcam. The laptop has both USB and 3.5mm audio connectivity, so headset compatibility is straightforward.

| Configuration | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| AMD Ryzen 7 260 / RTX 5060 / OLED | Most mainstream gamers | The best balance of display quality, performance, and price. Prefer 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, and the 80Wh battery if the premium is reasonable. |
| AMD Ryzen 7 260 / RTX 5060 / IPS | Value buyers and bright-room users | Usually the more practical choice if OLED costs substantially more or if you prefer a matte panel and want to avoid OLED PWM concerns. |
| Intel Legion 5 15IRX10 / RTX 5070 / OLED | Native 1600p gaming and heavier GPU work | More appropriate when the RTX 5060 does not provide enough headroom, but compare the complete specification and price rather than the GPU name alone. |
| RTX 5050 variants | Lower-cost gaming | Potentially worthwhile at a substantial discount, but they do not represent the performance level evaluated in this review. |
For the mainstream sweet spot, the Lenovo Legion 5 RTX 5060 OLED is the configuration to seek. Confirm that the listing includes the 2560×1600 165Hz OLED panel rather than assuming every RTX 5060 model does.
For shoppers who prioritize native 2560×1600 gaming, the Lenovo Legion 5 RTX 5070 is the upgrade alternative. It should be treated as a different buying proposition, not as proof that the AMD RTX 5060 configuration is inadequate.

Price and value: compare like for like
The reviewed AMD configuration was listed at €1,449 in Europe, and a Lenovo U.S. price of $1,535 was referenced at the time of publication. Those are historical figures, not current street-price claims. A separate Intel RTX 5070 review cited an Amazon price of $1,849 at that time. Promotions, region, tax, stock, and component changes can make the same family name vary substantially in price.
Rather than applying a fixed price verdict, compare the exact combination of GPU, display, RAM, SSD, and battery. The OLED RTX 5060 model is a strong value when its premium over the IPS version remains moderate and it includes at least 16GB of dual-channel memory and a 1TB SSD. A large OLED premium weakens the value argument if you do not care about HDR, contrast, or wide-gamut color.
The RTX 5070 premium is easier to justify for native 1600p gaming, demanding ray tracing, or GPU-heavy applications. It is harder to justify if you mostly play esports titles at 1080p or 1200p, where the RTX 5060 already provides the more sensible balance.

Who should buy the Lenovo Legion 5 15?
Buy the AMD RTX 5060 OLED version if you want one laptop for high-refresh gaming, modern single-player games, school or office work, and occasional creative tasks. It is especially compelling if you value screen quality as much as raw FPS. The 16:10 OLED panel is useful outside games, the chassis is not excessively large, and the upgrade paths extend its useful life.
Choose the IPS version if you play mostly in a bright room, prefer a matte screen, are sensitive to OLED flicker, or can use the savings to buy more storage or memory. Choose the RTX 5070 version if native 2560×1600 performance is the central goal and the price difference is acceptable.
Who should look elsewhere?
This is not the right purchase for someone seeking a genuinely quiet laptop, exceptional unplugged gaming, a built-in SD card reader, or a high-quality integrated webcam and speaker system. It is also a poor choice if a retailer uses the Legion 5 name without clearly identifying the panel, battery, RAM, and GPU. Configuration ambiguity can turn a very good recommendation into a mismatched purchase.
Final recommendation
The Lenovo Legion 5 15 deserves the description of the best mainstream gamer in 2025 when that description is attached to the AMD Ryzen 7 260, RTX 5060, OLED configuration and a competitive price. Its 165Hz OLED display is unusually good, the RTX 5060 is powerful enough for high-refresh 1080p and 1200p gaming and capable at 1600p with sensible settings, and the two SODIMM and two M.2 slots add practical long-term value.
The compromises are clear rather than disqualifying: fan noise under load, limited battery endurance for demanding work, a glossy and potentially flickery OLED panel, and ordinary webcam and speaker quality. Verify the SKU, favor the 80Wh battery where available, and compare the OLED RTX 5060 model against the IPS and RTX 5070 alternatives on total specification—not headline GPU name alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Lenovo Legion 5 15 have an OLED display?
No. The Legion 5 15 family includes AMD 15AHP10 and Intel 15IRX10 variants with different processors, GPUs, displays, batteries, memory, and storage. Some models have a 15.1-inch 2560×1600 OLED panel, while others use a 15.3-inch 1920×1200 IPS display. Confirm the exact SKU before buying.
Can you upgrade the RAM in the Lenovo Legion 5 15?
Yes, the chassis has two DDR5 SODIMM slots. Lenovo’s current supported-memory listing identifies up to 32GB for its offerings, while independent testing found that 64GB worked with the modules tested. Treat 32GB as the documented manufacturer capacity and verify compatibility before attempting a 64GB upgrade.
Is the RTX 5060 Legion 5 powerful enough for 1600p gaming?
The RTX 5060 model is well suited to high-refresh 1080p and 1200p gaming and can play at 2560×1600 with sensible settings, upscaling, or frame generation. The RTX 5070 is the better choice if native 1600p gaming with heavier settings is your priority.
Does the Lenovo Legion 5 15 have a second SSD slot?
It has two M.2 SSD slots. Lenovo documents the primary slot at PCIe 4.0 x4 and the secondary slot at PCIe 4.0 x2, so the second slot is useful for additional storage but has lower interface bandwidth.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The AMD Ryzen 7 260/RTX 5060/OLED Lenovo Legion 5 15 is an excellent mainstream gaming laptop and the configuration to target in 2025. Buy it for the outstanding 165Hz OLED display, strong 115W RTX 5060 performance, comfortable keyboard, and upgradeable design. Choose the IPS version for value or lower-reflection use, and pay extra for the RTX 5070 mainly when native 2560×1600 gaming matters.
