Verdict: The Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H is one of the fastest RTX 5070 Ti gaming laptops tested by Notebookcheck, thanks to its 140-watt GPU, powerful Core Ultra 9 processor and capable cooling system. Its 16-inch OLED display is another major strength. But this is a plugged-in performance machine: demanding workloads are loud, battery performance is restricted, the glossy screen can be difficult in bright rooms, and Lenovo’s software adds unnecessary friction. Buy it when the price is clearly below comparable RTX 5080 laptops and the exact regional configuration matches your needs.

The configuration reviewed

The tested Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H was configured with:

  • Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU with 12GB of GDDR7
  • 140W GPU TGP and a listed 2,220MHz boost clock
  • 32GB of memory
  • 1TB SSD
  • 16-inch, 16:10, 2560×1600 OLED display

These details describe the reviewed machine, not every laptop sold under the 16IAX10H name. Lenovo’s PSREF specification sheet lists multiple regional and hardware combinations. Memory, storage, operating system, warranty and display refresh rate can vary.

Lenovo’s US product material describes an OLED configuration with 2560×1600 resolution, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 500-nit brightness and HDR 1000 True Black. It also identifies a 165Hz OLED option, while other family configurations may use a different refresh rate. Confirm the exact SKU before buying rather than assuming that every Legion Pro 5 OLED has the same panel.

Why this RTX 5070 Ti is so fast

The RTX 5070 Ti name does not determine laptop performance by itself. Power limits, cooling, firmware and the processor paired with the GPU matter enormously. Here, Lenovo gives the RTX 5070 Ti a high 140W TGP and places it in a large chassis alongside the 24-core Core Ultra 9 275HX.

In Notebookcheck’s comparison group, this Legion was ahead of the other tested 16-inch RTX 5070 Ti laptops. The XMG Pro 16 E25 was roughly 10% behind in the publication’s gaming comparison. That makes the Legion an unusually strong example of the chip, but it does not prove that every 16IAX10H beats every competing RTX 5070 Ti laptop. A lower-power RTX 5070 Ti can be substantially slower despite having the same name.

The trade-off is predictable: sustaining this performance requires aggressive cooling and a substantial power supply. The Legion is fast because it behaves more like a desktop replacement than a thin portable computer.

Gaming performance at 1600p

The native 2560×1600 resolution is a good target for the RTX 5070 Ti. In many games, the laptop can deliver high frame rates at native resolution or with modest upscaling. Competitive games and older titles can also benefit from the OLED panel’s high refresh rate, though 1080p or an upscaling mode may be preferable when the priority is maximum refresh rate.

Modern, demanding games require more judgment. Notebookcheck reported that F1 25 rose from 35 frames per second to 52fps with DLSS in its tested scenario. In Doom: The Dark Ages, DLSS and Frame Generation raised the reported result from 46fps to 148fps; without Frame Generation, the review still recorded 61fps.

Those numbers need context:

  • Native rendering draws the game at the selected output resolution and generally provides the most direct image and latency characteristics.
  • DLSS Super Resolution renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image, usually improving performance with a relatively small visual cost.
  • Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames between traditionally rendered frames. It can make motion look much smoother, but its displayed frame rate should not be treated as equivalent to native-rendered performance, and it does not remove the latency associated with the underlying game-rendering rate.

Ray tracing and 4K external-monitor gaming are more demanding still. Cyberpunk 2077 can challenge the system at 4K even with DLSS, so this is primarily a strong 1600p laptop—not a guarantee of unrestricted native 4K gaming.

The OLED display is a major reason to choose it

The 16-inch 16:10 OLED panel combines a useful 2560×1600 workspace with OLED’s near-perfect blacks and extremely high contrast. Games look rich and clean, while the wide-gamut coverage makes the screen appealing for photography, video editing and other color-sensitive work. Response times are also a natural strength of OLED, helping fast games look sharper.

HDR support improves highlights and contrast, but “HDR 1000 True Black” should be understood as a panel specification or peak capability rather than a promise of sustained full-screen 1,000-nit brightness. HDR impact depends on the content, Windows configuration and how much of the screen is bright at once.

The glossy surface is the biggest everyday drawback. Reflections can be distracting near windows, overhead lights or outdoors. OLED also brings general long-term ownership considerations: static desktop elements, taskbars and application interfaces can contribute to image retention or burn-in over extended use. That is not evidence of a unit-specific defect, but buyers who display static work interfaces for many hours every day should use screen-saving features, vary content and consider whether an IPS panel is a better fit.

Core Ultra 9 275HX: powerful, but arguably excessive for gaming

The Core Ultra 9 275HX has eight performance cores and 16 efficiency cores, for 24 cores in total, with boost speeds up to 5.4GHz. It also includes a 13-TOPS NPU and integrated Xe graphics. Notebookcheck found strong sustained CPU performance, broadly competitive with other high-end gaming laptops.

That headroom is useful for CPU-heavy games, compiling, 3D rendering, video production, large exports and heavy multitasking. For gaming alone, however, a less expensive processor may often produce similar results when the RTX 5070 Ti is the limiting component. The 275HX also contributes to heat, fan noise, energy consumption and the need for a large chassis.

Noise, thermals and power modes

The central compromise is performance versus acoustics. Notebookcheck described the Legion as very loud under high-performance use. It is more acceptable with headphones than in a quiet office, shared room or recording environment.

Lenovo’s performance profiles let you trade speed for noise and heat. Quiet mode is the sensible choice for browsing and light work; Balanced is the everyday compromise; Performance prioritizes sustained CPU and GPU output; Custom can provide finer control where supported. The machine is not necessarily loud at all times—the criticism applies mainly to demanding workloads and high-performance settings—but buyers should expect audible cooling when the hardware is being pushed.

The chassis and cooling improvements appear to address weaknesses associated with the previous Legion Pro 5 generation, including its uneven cooling system and thermally throttling SSD criticism. That should not be interpreted as proof that every SSD thermal concern has disappeared. The more prominent remaining issues are the noise, power demands and battery restrictions.

Battery behavior and portability

On battery, Performance mode is unavailable and the laptop switches to Balanced behavior. Notebookcheck measured an approximately 37% reduction in Cinebench R15 Multi performance away from AC power. Gaming on battery also means lower performance and limited runtime compared with using the supplied charger.

It can handle normal productivity away from an outlet, but the 140W GPU makes this a poor choice for buyers who want ultrabook-like endurance. The heavy chassis, large power adapter and high-performance cooling further reduce its appeal as a frequent-travel laptop.

Keyboard, touchpad and chassis usability

The full-size keyboard includes a narrow numeric keypad, full-size arrow keys and a separate power button. Notebookcheck reported 24 configurable RGB zones on the tested unit. RGB implementation can vary by software and SKU, so verify the configuration if lighting matters to you.

Key feedback was comfortable, with medium-to-short travel and quiet-to-moderate sound. The 12×7.5cm Mylar touchpad supported smooth multitouch gestures, although some tap-to-click inputs were missed. It is adequate for Windows use, but serious gaming still calls for a mouse.

Lenovo’s software is useful and annoying

LegionSpace controls performance modes and related gaming features, but its game-store-style landing page can feel like promotion rather than a necessary system tool. Lenovo Vantage is useful for updates, support and device settings, yet the review criticized its survey requests and self-promotion. A McAfee trial was also installed on the reviewed unit.

The practical approach is to keep the Lenovo utilities needed for firmware, driver and performance-profile management, while removing or disabling unwanted promotional software and trial antivirus. A clean Windows installation can reduce clutter, but it may also remove Lenovo-specific controls or require reinstalling the relevant support components. The Notebookcheck review also raised concerns that software data collection was not clearly explained to ordinary users; that is a transparency concern reported by the reviewer, not a legal finding about Lenovo.

How to set it up on day one

  1. Check Windows Update, Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo’s support page for firmware, chipset, graphics and BIOS updates.
  2. Confirm the display refresh rate and enable the intended setting in Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
  3. Use Balanced mode for general work and Performance mode only when connected to AC and chasing maximum sustained performance.
  4. Remove unwanted trialware and promotional applications, including any antivirus trial you do not intend to use.
  5. Configure OLED care features such as automatic screen-off, a dark taskbar and reduced static display time.
  6. Before relying on the laptop for work, verify the installed RAM, SSD capacity, Windows edition, warranty region and GPU power specification against the retailer listing.

Price, availability and alternatives

Availability is a genuine issue. Notebookcheck reported difficulty finding the reviewed RTX 5070 Ti model, while some German listings offered RTX 5070 versions from around €2,400. That is a dated, region-specific reference—not a current US price and not a fair basis for a present-day buying decision.

The key value test is the price gap to an RTX 5080 laptop. The Legion makes the most sense when it is meaningfully cheaper than a credible RTX 5080 system. If scarcity pushes its price close to an RTX 5080 model, the faster GPU may justify choosing the higher tier instead. Verify the exact GPU wattage, display, RAM, SSD, operating system and warranty before comparing.

Other RTX 5070 Ti laptops may be better value if they use a lower power limit and a quieter design is more important than peak speed. A cheaper Legion Pro 5 with an RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 can also be the smarter purchase for 1080p gaming. An IPS Legion is worth considering if glare, static-interface use or OLED longevity is a concern.

The Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 is the more relevant step up for buyers considering RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 configurations. Its higher-tier chassis may offer a broader performance range, but a Pro 7i with the same RTX 5070 Ti is not automatically better value.

Who should buy the Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H?

  • Competitive gamers: A strong choice if you want high refresh rates and accept using performance modes and external power.
  • AAA gamers: Well suited to 1600p gaming with sensible use of DLSS; do not expect every demanding title to run natively at maximum settings.
  • Creators: Attractive for editing, rendering and photography because of the CPU, GPU and OLED, provided fan noise and glossy reflections are acceptable.
  • Students and office users: Capable, but excessive if portability, quiet operation or battery life is the priority.
  • Frequent travelers: Look elsewhere unless the machine’s performance is worth carrying a heavy laptop and charger.
  • RTX 5070 Ti versus RTX 5080 buyers: Choose the Legion only while its price advantage is substantial and its 140W configuration is confirmed.

Final verdict

The Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16IAX10H is an unusually fast RTX 5070 Ti laptop, and Notebookcheck’s June 2025 review—updated in February 2026—placed it at the top of its tested 16-inch RTX 5070 Ti group. Its 1600p OLED display, powerful processor and creator-friendly hardware make it more versatile than a basic gaming notebook.

But the same design decisions that produce its performance also make it loud, power-hungry and less portable. The right buyer is someone who mostly plays or creates while plugged in, values OLED quality and can buy the correct SKU at a clear discount to RTX 5080 alternatives. Everyone else should prioritize price, acoustics, battery behavior and display type over the RTX 5070 Ti label alone.
