Lenovo launched the original Legion Y700 gaming tablet in China on February 28, 2022, with sales reported to begin March 10. Its standout combination was an 8.8-inch 2560×1600 display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor. This is a report on the 2022 model—not a new launch—and its China-market software and support context matter to anyone considering an import.
What Lenovo launched
The Legion Y700 was a compact Android tablet designed around gaming, rather than a larger tablet adapted for it. Lenovo’s China-market version ran ZUI 13. Lenovo support identifies the original device as the Legion Tab Y700, model TB-9707F, and classifies it as a PRC/ZUI product. Lenovo’s support reference helps distinguish it from later products that also use Y700 or Legion Tab naming.
In the headline, “SD870” means Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, the tablet’s system-on-chip; it is not a reference to an SD memory card. The 2022 launch was China-focused, not an official worldwide launch.
Why the 8.8-inch display stood out
The LCD panel measured 8.8 inches diagonally and had a 2560×1600 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a reported 240Hz touch-sampling rate. Contemporary launch coverage also reported up to 500 nits of brightness, DC dimming, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and Dolby Vision support. Those color and display claims were reported in launch coverage, rather than presented here as independent measurements. Gizmochina’s launch report and ITHome’s Chinese-language coverage detail the display.

The compact, landscape-friendly format is easier to hold for handheld gaming and travel than an 11-inch tablet, while leaving less room for split-screen work or a broad game view. A 120Hz panel can refresh up to 120 times per second, but it does not make every game run at 120 frames per second: frame rate depends on the title, its settings and support, and the tablet’s thermal state. Running demanding games at high settings can also increase GPU load and battery use.
Snapdragon 870 performance and cooling
The tablet used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870, a high-performance mobile platform from 2021 that was not Qualcomm’s newest chip by the time the Y700 launched. Lenovo offered configurations reported as 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. The “up to” configuration is not the only one: check a listing for its exact memory and storage.
Launch coverage described a cooling system with an approximately 8,500mm² vapor chamber. Chinese coverage also cited a much larger total area for heat-dissipation materials. These are reported design specifications, not independent proof of sustained performance or a benchmark result. Actual performance varies by game, settings and thermal conditions; long, demanding sessions can generate heat and may reduce performance.

Gaming features, battery and ports
Reported gaming-oriented features included a dedicated gaming mode with resource monitoring and smart split-screen multitasking. The tablet also had stereo-oriented audio hardware, a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C, and microSD support reported in later specification coverage. A 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera were included, though cameras were not the product’s central selling point.
Launch coverage listed a battery of about 6,550mAh and 45W wired charging. A later specification summary gave 6,560mAh, a small reporting discrepancy best treated as an approximately 6,550mAh-class battery. These capacity figures do not establish a particular gaming runtime; consumption depends on the game, brightness, refresh rate and other use.
Launch configurations and historical prices
Pricing depended on configuration and timing. Lenovo’s reported introductory price was not the same as later standard Chinese retail pricing.

| Configuration | China introductory price | Later reported standard China price |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB RAM, 128GB storage | 2,199 yuan, reported as the launch-period starting price | 2,699 yuan |
| 12GB RAM, 256GB storage | 2,499 yuan, reported by Gizmochina | 2,999 yuan |
Notebookcheck’s April 2022 report described the 2,199-yuan figure as an introductory offer and reported the later standard prices. It also cited third-party import listings at US$439.99 for 8GB/128GB and US$499.99 for 12GB/256GB at that time. Those were historical marketplace prices, not Lenovo’s official international MSRP or current prices; taxes and duties could add to an import purchase.

After the China launch, third-party sellers offered imported units abroad. That availability did not amount to an official Lenovo launch in each country. Notebookcheck reported that imported units could arrive with Chinese-language software and without Google Play Services. Lenovo’s PRC/ZUI model identification is another reason not to assume an import is a global-ROM version.

- Whether the device is the original TB-9707F, rather than a newer Y700 or Legion Tab generation.
- Whether its firmware is Chinese ZUI or an official, region-appropriate ROM; do not assume that a seller’s “global ROM” claim means an official conversion.
- Whether Google Play Services are installed and certified, and whether the seller provides OTA updates.
- Warranty coverage in your country, return terms, import duties and return-shipping costs.
- For used or old-stock units, battery condition and whether the charger suits local electrical standards.
- For cellular use, compatibility with the specific device and local network bands; confirm rather than infer it from a listing.
Language, app-store access, notifications and updates can require extra setup on China-market firmware. Warranty and repair options may be limited outside China, so an attractive tablet price alone does not establish good value.
Is the original Y700 still worth considering?
Its compact size, high-refresh display, headphone jack and Snapdragon 870 made the original Y700 a distinctive gaming tablet for its launch period. It can still appeal to someone seeking a small Android device for compatible games, emulation or cloud gaming, provided the price and software are acceptable. But by 2026 it is a 2022 design with an aging processor, and the condition of a used or old-stock battery is a practical concern.
Compare any asking price with newer Legion Tab generations and currently supported alternatives. Later Y700/Legion Tab models retain the compact gaming-tablet idea but may use different processors and displays; do not apply the original model’s specifications to them. The original is a poor fit if you need assured local warranty, straightforward Google services, long-term update certainty, or current-generation performance.
