“The program can’t start because libtiff64.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
libtiff64.dll is an application DLL, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to identify the game or program that installed it, then repair or reinstall that exact application.

Which fix applies to you
Use this list before copying any file:
- Crysis, Sandbox 2, or a Crysis Mod SDK: Repair the Crysis installation or reinstall the official SDK. These programs commonly place the file in a
Bin64directory. - Another CRYENGINE game, such as ArcheAge: Unchained or Icarus: Verify or repair that game. The same filename can belong to different vendor builds.
- The file disappeared after an update, mod installation, or antivirus warning: Check Windows Security Protection history before restoring anything.
- The file exists but Windows says “The specified module could not be found”: A dependency of
libtiff64.dllmay be missing. Do not assume the named file is the only problem. - The program starts from
Bin64,bin64, or another x64 folder: It requires a matching 64-bit build. A 32-bitlibtiff.dllis not a substitute. - Every repair attempt fails: Check the complete executable path, launcher, architecture, antivirus history, and full error text before trying another replacement.
Do not download an arbitrary copy of libtiff64.dll and place it in System32. That can introduce malware, the wrong architecture, or a build from a different game, and it often leaves the original installation damaged.
What libtiff64.dll is
LibTIFF is a library used by applications to read and write TIFF images. libtiff64.dll is a 64-bit application-specific build based on that technology.

It is not a standard Windows component, Microsoft redistributable, or universal file supplied by Windows. There is no single verified version, checksum, or download package that is correct for every application using this filename.
The most recognizable association is the 64-bit Crysis and CRYENGINE 2 toolchain. Crysis stores a similarly named file under Bin64, alongside other CryEngine files. Sandbox 2 and the Crysis Mod SDK can use the same arrangement. Other CRYENGINE-based games also use the basename, but their builds can differ.
That is why the correct question is not “Where can I download libtiff64.dll?” It is “Which installed application owns this copy?”
Fix 1: Verify the owning game or app
This is the most likely solution when the file was deleted, corrupted, quarantined, or replaced by a failed update.
Steam
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the scan and replacement process to finish.
- Start the game from Steam.
Steam may reacquire the missing DLL and related files. Test the same shortcut or executable that previously produced the error.
If verification reports that files were restored but the error returns, temporarily remove unofficial mods or manual patches and verify again. A mod can replace or remove files that the original game expects.
EA App
- Open the EA App.
- Select Library.
- Find the affected game.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Repair.
- Allow the process to complete.
- Launch the game again.
If the game was installed through another launcher, use that launcher’s equivalent repair or file-verification command. Do not verify one installation while launching a different copy from another drive.

Crysis, Sandbox 2, or a Mod SDK
Confirm which program is failing. A missing file in the original Crysis installation is not necessarily repaired by reinstalling a separate Mod SDK.
Use the legitimate installer or the game platform that supplied the program. For an SDK, use the official SDK distribution associated with a legitimate Crysis installation. Install it into its original application directory, then launch the 64-bit executable again.
If repair does not work
Record the full path of the failing executable. For example, distinguish between:
D:GamesCrysisBin64Crysis.exe
and an editor or SDK executable in a separate directory. The owning application is the one whose executable is loading the missing DLL, not necessarily the last program you installed.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a game DLL after an update or mod installation.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an entry whose path matches the affected game or app.
- Do not restore the file merely because its name matches
libtiff64.dll. - First confirm that the detection came from the legitimate installation directory and that the application was obtained from an official source.
If the file is trusted and the detection is clearly a false positive, use the action offered by Windows Security to restore or allow it. Then immediately verify the game files so the launcher can provide a clean copy.

Do not create a broad exclusion for an entire drive or for System32. If repair repeatedly removes the file, investigate the detection, unofficial modifications, file permissions, and disk health instead of repeatedly restoring the same copy.
If malware is detected, remove the compromised software and reinstall the game or application from its legitimate source.
Fix 3: Confirm 64-bit architecture and file location
A 64-bit executable generally loads its private DLLs from its application directory. A Bin64 or bin64 folder is a strong indication that the program expects 64-bit components.
Check the installation folder:
- Right-click the shortcut that fails.
- Select Properties.
- Read the path in Target.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Look for the executable’s nearby
Bin64,bin64, or x64 directory. - Check whether
libtiff64.dllis present in the directory expected by that application.
Do not replace it with:
- A 32-bit
libtiff.dll - A copy from another game
- A file from a different release of the same game
- A file copied into
C:WindowsSystem32 - A file copied into
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The same basename can represent different builds. Even when two games use CRYENGINE, their bundled DLLs are not automatically interchangeable.
If the file is present but the program reports “The specified module could not be found,” the missing item may be a dependency loaded by libtiff64.dll. Repair the application first. If the launcher identifies a missing Microsoft runtime such as MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, or MSVCR, install the matching Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft and choose the architecture required by the application. Fix 4: Check the complete error and dependencies
These messages do not all mean the same thing:
- “libtiff64.dll is missing” or “was not found”: The file may be absent from the application directory.
- “The specified module could not be found”: The DLL or one of its dependencies may be unavailable.
- “The file is not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error”: The file may be corrupt, incomplete, incompatible, or the wrong architecture.
- “Error loading libtiff64.dll”: The application located the file but could not load it successfully.
Write down the entire message and the executable path. If the DLL is present, use a reputable dependency-analysis tool or the application’s own diagnostic log to identify missing dependencies. Avoid replacing individual Windows DLLs based only on a search result.

If the issue began immediately after a mod or unofficial patch, remove that modification and run the launcher’s verification process. If it began after a drive move or restore, reinstall the application into a clean folder rather than combining files from multiple installations.
Fix 5: Reinstall the application cleanly
Use this when verification cannot restore the file or the installation has been manually altered.

- Back up save files and configuration files if the game stores them inside or near its installation directory.
- Remove unofficial mods and patches.
- Uninstall the affected game, editor, or SDK from its launcher or from Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Check for a leftover installation folder.
- Remove only the remaining folder belonging to that application.
- Reinstall from the original launcher or official installer.
- Apply the application’s normal updates.
- Launch it before adding mods or custom files.
- Add modifications one at a time and test after each change.
A clean reinstall must match the program that produced the error. Reinstalling a different CRYENGINE title will not necessarily provide the required build.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows is also damaged
libtiff64.dll is not a Windows system DLL, so Windows component repair normally will not recreate it. Use DISM and SFC only when you also see broader Windows problems, damaged built-in applications, update failures, or other protected-system-file errors.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the affected game or application again.
DISM must run before SFC in Microsoft’s supported sequence. If both commands complete without finding a problem, return to repairing the owning application rather than repeating them.

Do not use regsvr32 for this DLL
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide COM self-registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose repair command.
Running this command is not an appropriate fix:
regsvr32 libtiff64.dll
There is no established evidence that this application DLL is a COM server. The command may return an entry-point or registration error, and it will not restore a missing file or dependency.

Drivers and Windows Features
A graphics driver update can help with a game that crashes after starting, but it does not normally restore a missing application DLL. Device Manager is therefore not the first repair path for this error.
If you still need to check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Retest the application.
Do not uninstall the display device merely because libtiff64.dll is missing. Use the graphics manufacturer’s official driver channel when Windows cannot find a suitable update.

Windows Features are also unlikely to restore this file. Do not enable random legacy components as a DLL fix. Only enable a feature when the application’s documentation specifically requires it.
Prevention
- Keep the game or application in its original launcher-managed location.
- Use file verification after installing or removing mods.
- Keep antivirus protection enabled and review quarantine history.
- Avoid copying DLLs between games, even when the filenames match.
- Keep a backup of saves and configuration files before reinstalling.
- Do not place application DLLs in
System32orSysWOW64. - Record the executable path and complete error text when reporting the problem.

Is libtiff64.dll a Windows file?

No. Crysis and its CryEngine tools are strong documented associations, but other CRYENGINE-based games also use the basename. Identify the executable and installation path before choosing a repair.
Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is visible?
A dependency of libtiff64.dll may be missing, or the visible file may be corrupt or incompatible. Repair the application and check the complete dependency error.
Should I run System Restore?
Only when the problem is part of a wider Windows change and normal application repair has failed. System Restore is not the standard way to restore a third-party game DLL.
What if a clean reinstall still fails?
Confirm the launcher, installation path, Windows architecture, antivirus detections, and full error message. If the error names another runtime, repair that runtime specifically rather than replacing libtiff64.dll again.
