libtsplayer.dll is an old 32-bit VLC-derived application file, not a Windows system component. The safest fix is to identify the program requesting it, then repair or reinstall that program from its official installer instead of downloading the DLL separately.
What this file actually does
libtsplayer.dll is associated with the VLC 2.0.5 codebase and may be bundled by old VLC installations or VLC-derived applications such as Ace Stream. The application that installed it owns the file, so its correct location is normally beside that application’s executable or inside one of its player directories.

It should not normally be copied to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. A 32-bit program can use a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows through WOW64, but it still needs the complete matching set of application files.
Public file listings identify known copies as 32-bit and commonly associate them with version 2.0.5.0. Size and hash information varies between indexed copies, so do not use one number as proof that every copy is correct.

Common reported messages include:
- “This application failed to start because libtsplayer.dll was not found.”
- “The file libtsplayer.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: libtsplayer.dll. Please install the application again.”
- “Error loading libtsplayer.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because libtsplayer.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “libtsplayer.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These are reported error variants rather than a single standardized Windows diagnosis. In particular, “the specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency used by libtsplayer.dll is missing, not necessarily that the named file alone is absent.
Causes and symptoms
| What you notice | Most likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| The error names VLC or an old media shortcut | Incomplete or damaged VLC installation | Repair or reinstall the matching VLC package |
| The error appears when Ace Stream or another player starts | A bundled VLC component is missing or mismatched | Repair or reinstall that parent application |
| The problem began after antivirus activity | The DLL or a neighboring module was quarantined | Check Protection History, then verify or reinstall the app |
| Replacing the DLL changes the error to another missing file | The application has several missing dependencies | Restore the complete application installation |
| “Not designed to run on Windows” appears | Corruption, architecture mismatch, or incompatible neighboring files | Reinstall the correct application build |
| The message appears after uninstalling software | A stale shortcut or startup entry remains | Remove the orphaned entry or reinstall and uninstall cleanly |
| Reinstalling does not help | Wrong executable, wrong installation path, dependency failure, or compatibility issue | Capture the executable and investigate the complete installation |
Fix 1: Identify the application that owns the file
Do this before downloading or replacing anything.
- Read the error dialog and note the application name.
- Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target. The executable named there is the program that Windows is trying to start.
- Select Open File Location if available.
- Note the installation directory and whether it belongs to VLC, Ace Stream, a media tool, a game, or another application.
- If the dialog disappears too quickly, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and check the Details tab for the failing executable.
- You can also open Event Viewer by pressing Windows + R, typing
eventvwr.msc, and pressing Enter. Open Windows Logs > Application, then inspect errors recorded at the time of the failure.
Pay attention to the executable, not just the filename in the message. If the executable belongs to an old player that is no longer installed, the right fix may be removing a stale startup entry rather than restoring a DLL.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the parent application
This is the most likely solution because the DLL is application-owned.

Try Windows repair first
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application named in the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair if Windows provides that option.
- Restart the computer and launch the application again.
If the error remains, return to the same screen and select Reset only if you understand that it may remove application settings. For older desktop programs, these options may not exist.
Reinstall from the publisher
- Close the affected application.
- In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the program and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application’s publisher. For VLC, use the official VideoLAN Windows download page or its official archive when the application specifically requires the old 2.0.5 package.
- Install the same architecture and product family that the failing executable expects.
- Restart Windows again and test the original shortcut.
A complete reinstall should restore related files, which may include libtsplayercore.dll, libvlc.dll, plugins, and other VLC modules. Copying only libtsplayer.dll cannot repair an incomplete set.
For a launcher-managed application, open its launcher and use Verify files, Repair, or the equivalent command before uninstalling. The exact menu varies by launcher, but the purpose is the same: restore the publisher’s complete package.
Fix 3: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Antivirus software can remove a file from an otherwise valid installation. Do not assume that a detection is a false positive.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected application or
libtsplayer.dll. - Expand the event and read the detected path, threat name, and action.
- If the file came from a trusted, publisher-supplied installation, scan the installation folder and verify the publisher before considering Restore.
- If the source is unknown or the detection remains credible, leave the file quarantined and reinstall the application from its official source.
Microsoft warns that restoring a detected file can cause Defender to detect it again. Do not disable antivirus merely to force an old DLL to run.
Fix 4: Match the application architecture and its neighboring files
A known libtsplayer.dll copy is 32-bit. That does not mean it belongs in a Windows system folder, and it does not mean that every application using the same filename can share it.
Check the following:
- A 32-bit application needs its 32-bit VLC dependencies, even on 64-bit Windows.
- Do not copy the DLL from VLC into Ace Stream, or from one unrelated application into another.
- Do not mix files from an installer, an old backup, and a newer application update.
- Keep
libtsplayer.dllbeside the executable or in the application directory supplied by the installer. - If the message says “not designed to run on Windows,” suspect corruption or mismatched neighboring libraries.
- If “the specified module could not be found” persists after the file is present, another dependency may be missing.
The presence of the file alone does not prove that it is the right file. The executable, DLL set, plugins, and application version must match.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when broader corruption is likely
System repair commands are secondary for this problem. SFC normally repairs protected Windows files, not an application-local VLC DLL.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Use them when several Windows features are failing, updates are damaged, system files are reporting errors, or disk corruption is suspected.
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish, then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the affected application even if SFC reports that it repaired files.
Success means DISM and SFC complete without an unrepaired error, but that does not guarantee that libtsplayer.dll has been restored. If the application still reports the same message, return to the publisher’s installer.
Repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while the application remains incomplete. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and show what needs attention; its repair functions require the full version, and reinstalling the owning application remains the definitive fix for this DLL.
Fix 6: Consider drivers only for a wider media or graphics problem
A driver update is not a specific repair for libtsplayer.dll. Consider it only when the same failure is accompanied by graphics crashes, audio-device errors, playback failures across several applications, or Device Manager warnings.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any category showing a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and version.
- Select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not remove a working driver simply because one application cannot load an old VLC component. Outbyte Driver Updater can identify outdated drivers when checking them manually is difficult; its driver installation features require the full version, and a driver update will not replace the parent application’s missing DLL.
Fix 7: Use System Restore for a clearly recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error started immediately after a driver installation, application installation, update, or other system modification and a suitable restore point exists.

Do not download libtsplayer.dll from a random DLL website. A standalone download may contain malware, the wrong architecture, a mismatched build, or a file modified outside the original application. It may also leave dependent files missing and cause a different startup error.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchDo not copy the file into System32, SysWOW64, or another application’s directory. That can create version conflicts and makes it harder to identify the real owner.
regsvr32 is also normally irrelevant. It registers DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer; it does not restore missing files or resolve ordinary application dependency loading. Running it against this media component will usually produce no useful repair.
Windows Features, Visual C++ packages, DirectX, and .NET should not be installed as guesses. There is no established evidence that one of those packages specifically restores this application-owned DLL. Install a runtime only when the application’s publisher explicitly requires it or the error identifies that runtime.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- The complete error text
- The executable named in the dialog or Event Viewer
- The application’s installation path
- Whether Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether the program is VLC, Ace Stream, or another bundle
- Any antivirus quarantine event
- Whether
libtsplayer.dllis present beside the executable - Whether the application also reports
libtsplayercore.dll,libvlc.dll, or another missing module
Then check for:
- A second installation of the application in another folder.
- A stale shortcut or startup entry pointing to an old directory.
- Antivirus removal immediately after reinstalling.
- A 32-bit application paired with incompatible 64-bit or unrelated DLLs.
- An obsolete application that no longer works reliably with the current Windows release.
- Disk errors or wider Windows corruption.
- A dependency failure reported only as “the specified module could not be found.”
If the application is an old VLC release, replace it with a supported VideoLAN release where possible. VLC 2.0.5 is an archived version, and current VLC packages may not use this legacy filename. If another program specifically requires the old component, use that program’s own compatible installer rather than borrowing files from modern VLC.
FAQ
Is libtsplayer.dll part of Windows?
No public evidence supports that. It is associated with old VLC-derived third-party software and should normally remain in the application’s directory.
Is libtsplayer.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Known public metadata identifies it as 32-bit. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit application, but the application’s other dependencies must also match.
Can I put it in System32?
No. Copying it into a Windows folder is not the normal repair and can create conflicts. Restore it through the application that owns it.
Should I register it with regsvr32?
Normally no. regsvr32 is for registering DLLs that provide the required registration entry point, not for repairing missing application files.
Why does Windows still say the file is missing when it is present?
The executable may be looking in another directory, the file may be the wrong architecture, or a dependency of the DLL may be missing. Reinstall the complete application and verify the executable’s path.
Is downloading the DLL separately safe?
No. It can expose you to malware or a wrong, mismatched copy. Use the publisher’s installer and inspect Microsoft Defender Protection History if the file was removed.
When should I use SFC or DISM?
Use them when Windows itself shows broader corruption or update problems. They are not the primary repair for an application-local VLC DLL, so reinstall the owning application afterward.
