The architecture conflict matters. Do not decide whether a replacement is correct from the filename alone. Windows and the Epson installer must match the printer model, Windows version, application, and driver architecture.

Fix ep0nm4ri.dll by reinstalling the Epson driver
This is the most likely solution when the error appeared after an Epson update, printer removal, failed uninstall, antivirus action, disk cleanup, or Windows update.
1. Identify the exact Epson printer
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Write down the exact printer model.
- If it is listed, select it and note whether Windows shows an error or a pending driver operation.
If the printer is not listed, check the printer itself, its label, the original packaging, or an existing Epson utility. Do not install a generic Epson package simply because it contains the word “Epson.”
2. Download the matching package
Open Epson’s official support site manually and search for the exact printer model. Select your version of Windows and open the Downloads section. Choose the current Printer Driver or the Epson software package that supports that model.
Select the package offered for your Windows architecture. On a 64-bit installation, use the 64-bit package when Epson provides one. A 32-bit application can still depend on a 32-bit component, so do not assume that every file involved must match the bitness of Windows. Let the official installer make the compatibility decision.
3. Remove the damaged Epson installation
If the installer reports that an older package is already installed:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for Epson.
- Remove the Epson printer software associated with the affected printer.
- Restart Windows.
If the printer is still present after removing the software:
- Return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the affected printer.
- Select Remove.
- Restart Windows again.
Avoid removing unrelated Epson software or drivers for other printers unless you know they belong to the same failed installation.

Run the Epson installer you downloaded, preferably by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator. Connect the printer only when the installer requests it. Allow Windows to restart if prompted.
Test the result by printing a Windows test page:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the Epson printer.
- Select Printer properties.
- On the General tab, select Print Test Page.
The repair worked if the test page prints and the original application starts without the ep0nm4ri.dll message. If the error remains, continue with the checks below instead of copying a DLL into a Windows folder.

- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
ep0nm4ri.dll, Epson software, or the affected application. - Open the detection details and check the file path.
- Compare the path with the Epson installation you intended to use.
- Check the publisher and digital signature if Windows provides them.
- Restore the file only when you have verified that the package came from Epson and the detection is a false positive.

If the file was quarantined from a temporary folder, a user-profile folder, or an unrelated application directory, do not restore it automatically. Remove the suspicious application, update Defender, and run a full scan.
Match the driver architecture and printer model
A 32-bit or 64-bit mismatch can prevent Windows from loading a driver component even when the file exists. Public listings for ep0nm4ri.dll disagree about its architecture, so online file metadata is not a safe basis for choosing a replacement.

To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
Then return to the Epson support page and select the package offered for the exact printer and Windows version. Do not rename a DLL, force a 32-bit file into a 64-bit driver directory, or use a file from another Epson model.
You can also inspect the installed printer driver:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
printmanagement.msc. - Press Enter.
- Open Print Servers → your computer → Drivers.
Some editions of Windows do not include Print Management. If it does not open, use the Epson uninstaller and reinstall the model-specific package instead of deleting driver files manually.
Use Device Manager for driver leftovers
Device Manager may reveal a failed printer installation, but it is not a source for downloading ep0nm4ri.dll.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Epson printer or an entry with a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry and select Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only for the affected Epson device.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current Epson package again.
If the printer works after reinstalling but the original application still reports the DLL error, that application may have retained a stale startup entry or printer integration. Repair or reinstall that application after confirming that the Epson printer itself works.
What the different error messages mean
Commonly reported variants include:
- “The program can’t start because EP0NM4RI.DLL is missing from your computer.”
- “Error loading EP0NM4RI.DLL. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because EP0NM4RI.DLL was not found.”
- “Failed to load EP0NM4RI.DLL.”
These messages are reported by third-party DLL index pages rather than official Epson or Microsoft documentation.
“Missing” or “not found” usually means the application requested the file and Windows could not find it in the application’s search paths. “The specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency of ep0nm4ri.dll is missing. In that case, reinstalling the complete Epson package is safer than replacing only the named file.
Repair Windows components when broader damage is suspected
SFC and DISM do not normally restore an Epson-owned DLL. Use them when Windows itself is unstable, several unrelated system files are failing, or the problem began with broader operating-system corruption.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run System File Checker second
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Restart Windows and test the printer and the affected application.
Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions recommend running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, that does not disprove an Epson driver problem because Epson files are not protected Windows system files.

Use System Restore for a recent system-wide change
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after a driver update, Windows change, or software installation and normal Epson reinstallation did not help.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the applications and drivers that will be changed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore can remove applications, drivers, and settings added after the selected restore point. Personal documents are not its target, but review the affected-program list before continuing. Microsoft explains the process in its System Restore guidance.

Do not download the DLL by itself
Random DLL download sites can provide the wrong build, wrong architecture, modified code, or malware. An isolated replacement also leaves the damaged Epson installation and its registry, services, dependencies, and printer configuration untouched.

Use the Epson support process and the complete driver package instead. Do not copy the file into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder unless Epson specifically instructs you to do so.

Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. A normal printer-driver runtime component may not implement that interface.
Running a command such as this without evidence that registration applies can create a second error:
regsvr32 ep0nm4ri.dll
Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a registration utility, not a universal DLL repair tool. Reinstall the Epson driver instead.

Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET solely because ep0nm4ri.dll is missing. Install those components only if the complete error names a separate dependency or the affected application’s official requirements call for them.
Windows Features also will not normally restore an Epson printer DLL. Enabling .NET Framework or legacy components at random can add configuration problems without repairing the driver.
If the error still appears
If reinstalling the driver, checking quarantine, and running the appropriate Windows repairs did not help:
- Capture the full error text and the name of the application showing it.
- Check whether the error appears during startup, printing, or only after opening one program.
- Search Task Manager → Startup apps for an old Epson utility.
- Remove obsolete Epson software from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Check the affected application for a printer, export, or print-preview plugin.
- Run a Microsoft Defender scan if the file is outside an expected Epson location.
- Compare the file’s location, publisher, signature, and hash with the package installed from Epson.
- Contact Epson support with the exact printer model and Windows version if the official installer fails.
