The code execution cannot proceed because libvorbis_64.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
libvorbis_64.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
These messages do not always mean the named file has been deleted. The file may be present while another DLL that it needs is missing or damaged.

libvorbis_64.dll is an application-private, 64-bit Vorbis audio codec library commonly packaged with Unreal Engine and Unreal-powered games. It is not a Windows component, Windows Update file, or normal system DLL.
Do this first:
- Identify the game or application that fails.
- Close it and its launcher.
- Open the launcher’s file verification or repair function.
- Let it replace missing files.
- Restart Windows and launch the program again.
For an Epic game, open Library, select the three dots beside the game, choose Manage, and select Verify. For an Unreal Engine installation, open the engine tile menu in Library and choose Verify.
For a Steam game, open Library, right-click the game, select Properties, choose Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files.
If verification cannot complete or the error returns immediately, reinstall the affected game, engine version, or application from its official launcher or installer.

What libvorbis_64.dll does
Vorbis is an audio codec used to decode compressed sound. Unreal distributions package the codec with the engine so a game can play sound without depending on a copy installed globally in Windows.
An Unreal installation may contain the file in a path similar to:

The exact location varies by engine version and by the game’s packaging. The VS2015 folder name describes part of the binary layout and toolchain family. It does not mean that this file is the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
The same filename can appear in many unrelated games because each product may include its own private Unreal runtime. The filename alone does not identify which game is broken.

libvorbis_64.dllis the 64-bit Vorbis codec library.libvorbis.dllis commonly the 32-bit counterpart in a Win32 build.libvorbisfile_64.dllis a related Vorbis file used for higher-level file and stream handling.libogg_64.dllis the Ogg container library that may be required alongside Vorbis.
Do not replace one with another because their names look similar. Do not copy a 64-bit file into a 32-bit application directory.
First find the application that is failing
Before changing Windows, establish which executable is reporting the error.
Check:
- The title bar of the error dialog.
- The shortcut you used to start the program.
- The launcher’s Installed, Library, or Manage page.
- The folder containing the executable.
- Whether another game or Unreal project launches normally.
If only one game fails, repair that game. If several unrelated applications fail, investigate Windows components, antivirus activity, or disk problems.
Also consider what happened immediately before the error:

- A game or engine update
- A cleanup utility removing files
- Antivirus quarantine
- A mod installation or removal
- Moving the game to another drive
- A failed disk operation
- A Windows or driver update
That history usually points to the correct repair path.
Fix 1: Verify or repair the affected program
This is the most likely solution because the DLL belongs to the application package.
Epic Games or Unreal Engine
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- For a game, select the three dots beside its name.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- For Unreal Engine, open the engine tile menu and choose Verify.
- Wait for the scan and replacement process to finish.
- Restart the computer and try the program again.
A successful repair normally reports that verification is complete and may show that files were reacquired.

Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click the affected game.
- Select Properties.
- Choose Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish downloading replacements.
- Start the game without adding mods first.
If Steam repeatedly redownloads the same file, temporarily remove incompatible mods, check available disk space, and review antivirus logs.
Microsoft Store or other applications
For a Microsoft Store application:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Choose Installed apps.
- Select the application’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
If Repair does not help, use Reset only if you understand that it may remove local application data. For a traditional desktop application, run its original installer and choose Repair if offered. Otherwise uninstall it, restart Windows, and reinstall it from the developer or publisher’s official source.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a genuine application file, but a familiar filename is not proof that a quarantined file is safe.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected game or application.
- Check the detected file’s location and the product it belongs to.
- Restore or allow it only when the application came from a legitimate official source and the file is clearly part of that installation.
- Immediately run a scan after restoring it.
- Use the launcher’s verification function again.
If the detection remains active, do not repeatedly restore the file. Remove unofficial cracks, modified executables, and unknown mods, then reinstall the application from its official source. Microsoft’s guidance on Protection History explains the risks of allowing a file that is genuinely malicious.
Fix 3: Repair Visual C++ dependencies only when named
libvorbis_64.dll is not supplied by the Visual C++ Redistributable. Installing Visual C++ will not create this file.

Install the package matching the application:
vc_redist.x64.exefor a 64-bit applicationvc_redist.x86.exefor a 32-bit application
Download it from Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable page. Restart Windows, then verify the game files again.
A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit programs, but that does not make their DLLs interchangeable. Match the runtime and application architecture.
Fix 4: Resolve the “specified module could not be found” version
If the file exists but Windows still says:
The specified module could not be found
the missing item may be a dependency rather than libvorbis_64.dll itself. Possible dependencies include libogg_64.dll, libvorbisfile_64.dll, or a Visual C++ runtime.

Do not download each suspected DLL separately. Instead:
- Note the full path of the existing
libvorbis_64.dll. - Run the affected launcher’s verification process.
- Repair or reinstall the complete application package.
- If you are a developer with Visual Studio tools installed, inspect dependencies with:
dumpbin /dependents "C:fullpathlibvorbis_64.dll"
The Windows loader searches application directories and other locations according to its DLL search rules. Copying a different build from another game can create version conflicts or introduce DLL-preloading risks.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components
Use this step when several unrelated applications show bad-image or missing-DLL errors, or when verification succeeds but Windows continues reporting broader corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Verify the affected game or application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. The commands repair Windows components; they do not download a replacement libvorbis_64.dll.
Repeatedly hunting through system folders and rerunning SFC or DISM can be slow when the real problem is a damaged application package. Also check Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates. If the problem began after a system change, open Run with Windows key + R, enter rstrui.exe, and use System Restore if a suitable restore point exists.
If many programs continue to fail, Windows 11 may offer Settings → System → Recovery → Reinstall now. This repairs the current Windows installation while normally preserving personal files, but review the recovery screen before confirming.

A graphics or audio driver is not the normal source of a missing Vorbis runtime. Update drivers only when you also have display failures, audio dropouts, device errors, or a vendor diagnostic pointing to a driver problem.

To check a device:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
Do not uninstall a working driver solely because libvorbis_64.dll is missing. Manually identifying the correct package across multiple hardware vendors can be tedious. Do not copy this DLL into System32
libvorbis_64.dll is normally private to the application that shipped it. It should not normally be placed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
System32 is not a general-purpose storage location for application DLLs, and SysWOW64 is associated with 32-bit compatibility components on 64-bit Windows. Global copying can cause the wrong program to load the wrong build and can create security risks.

Avoid random DLL download websites. Their files may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, match a different Unreal build, omit companion libraries, or conceal the actual installation problem. The safe sources are the affected game’s official launcher, the official Unreal Engine installer, the application publisher’s installer, or a verified backup of the exact same application build.
A controlled manual copy is reasonable only when you have a verified backup or the exact original application package. Place the file in the product’s documented directory beside the correct executable, restore its companion files if required, and run the launcher’s verification afterward.
Is regsvr32 relevant?
Normally, no. regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose the COM DllRegisterServer function. A Vorbis runtime library is not normally a COM server.
Running commands such as these will not repair an ordinary missing codec dependency:
regsvr32 libvorbis_64.dll
If it reports that the entry point is missing, that confirms registration is not the appropriate repair. Use the application’s installer or verification process instead.
FAQ
Is libvorbis_64.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is an application-bundled, 64-bit Vorbis library associated with Unreal Engine distributions and Unreal-powered games.
Should I install DirectX?
Not for this file alone. Install Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtimes only when the error separately names legacy files such as d3dx9_*.dll, XAudio2_7.dll, or XInput1_3.dll.
Is libvorbis_64.dll the same as libvorbisfile_64.dll?
No. They are related but separate libraries. The game may require both, along with libogg_64.dll.
