Best charms by purpose
There is no official tier list in the available documentation. The following groups are practical build categories based on the listed effects, not an official ranking. A charm that is excellent for bosses may be worse for carrying large excavation hauls or moving quickly between locations.
| Goal | Useful charms | Why they fit |
|---|---|---|
| Luck and better finds | Training Glove, Lucky Bell, Pearl Necklace, Fortuned Bell, Large Log, Solstice Bell, Fruit Hat, Fuzzballs Foot, Prismatic Domino Crown | These provide Luck directly or combine Luck with survival, mobility, or other high-end effects. |
| Control and more reliable digging | Controlled Glove, Archer Hat, Vision Goggles, Sydney’s Katana, Flower Crown, Copper Cowboy Hat | Control improves the timing-focused digging process; Vision Goggles and Copper Cowboy Hat add especially distinctive utility. |
| Strength and faster excavation | Energy Apparatus, Ice Picks, Imp Horns, Cauldron Hat, Blazing Gauntlet, Prismatic Domino Crown | These increase Strength, although Imp Horns and Cauldron Hat impose meaningful trade-offs. |
| Endurance and survivability | Training Glove, Regen Coil, Rock Pounder, Banjo, Lifting Belt, Tenacity Brace, Super Regen Coil, Magma Boots, Blood Crown, Radioactive Horns | They increase Endurance, restore it, heal, protect against missed hits, or enable survival in hazardous areas. |
| Mobility and traversal | Blue Coil, Jar of Peanut Butter, Haste Coil, Super Blue Coil, Magic Top Hat, Magma Boots, Fruit Hat, Umbrella Hat | They improve jumping, speed, Haste, gravity, or access through dangerous terrain. |
| Utility and exploration | LED Headlamp, Lantern, Ghastly Lantern, Vision Goggles, Shoulder Bag, Hiker’s Bag, War Shield, Ectoplasm Sleeve | These add light, carrying capacity, prediction, defense, or item-modification utility. |
How to choose your three equipped charms
- Start with the activity. For ordinary digging, prioritize Control, Luck, Carry Load, or a balanced stat combination. For a boss, Endurance, Boss Damage, parry effects, and missed-hit protection become more important.
- Cover your weakness. If missed hits regularly empty your Endurance bar, use a defensive charm such as Blood Crown, Tenacity Brace, Regen Coil, or Super Regen Coil instead of stacking only Strength.
- Account for trade-offs. Imp Horns increase Strength while draining Endurance faster; Cauldron Hat improves Strength buffs while reducing Haste and Walk Speed; Copper Cowboy Hat sacrifices Walk Speed for a powerful first hit.
- Use utility when the map demands it. A light-providing charm can be more useful than a small stat increase in dark areas, while Magma Boots or Blazing Gauntlet matter when entering Mount Charcoal.
- Reroll selectively. The Charm Chisel costs $25,000 before the rarity-based reroll fee. Improve a charm you expect to keep rather than spending on every early item, and check the current in-game fee because published rarity tables do not completely agree.
Naming and rarity cautions
Reference sources differ slightly in presentation. You may see Hiker’s Bag written as “Hikers Bag,” Fuzzballs Foot as “Fuzzball’s Foot,” and Charm Chisel as “Charm Chisler.” Some guides also differ on exact shop descriptions, numerical ranges, and the boundary between rarity categories. This checklist uses the names and groupings in the most complete accessible reference, but the item name shown in your current DIG client takes priority.
Likewise, the labels above should not be mistaken for a value ranking. A Junk or Common charm can still be useful early, and a high-rarity charm may be inconvenient if its drawback conflicts with your shovel, route, or playstyle.
