liveguard_msg.dll is not identified as a Windows, DirectX, .NET, or Visual C++ system file. It appears to be a third-party application DLL, so the safest fix is to identify the program that needs it and repair or reinstall that program.

Do not download liveguard_msg.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into System32. That can introduce malware, install the wrong architecture, or leave the application failing because another dependency is also missing.

What liveguard_msg.dll is

The best available public file listings associate the filename with LiveGuard MU MSG and list LiveGuard Software Ltd as the company. Those listings report one 32-bit build, version 1.0.0.15, with a size of approximately 3.11 MB.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

These details come from third-party file indexes, not an accessible official product manual or current vendor download page. They identify the file’s apparent metadata, but they do not prove which application installed it. No reliable evidence shows that it belongs to Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, a standard driver package, or a specific mainstream game.

Listed description LiveGuard MU MSG
Listed company LiveGuard Software Ltd
Listed version 1.0.0.15
Listed architecture 32-bit
Listed size Approximately 3.11 MB

LiveGuard Software Ltd is no longer an active company according to public corporate records. That makes a current official installer or support channel uncertain. If the original application is obsolete and you cannot obtain its installer from a trusted source, restoring the DLL by itself is not a safe solution.

Errors caused by liveguard_msg.dll

You may see one of these messages when starting an application:

  • “The program can’t start because liveguard_msg.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
  • “There was a problem starting liveguard_msg.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “Error loading liveguard_msg.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The code execution cannot proceed because liveguard_msg.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”
  • “liveguard_msg.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

The wording does not identify the parent application. Before changing Windows, note:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. The exact program name in the error.
  2. Whether the problem began after an update, uninstall, antivirus detection, disk cleanup, or migration to another PC.
  3. The application’s executable path.
  4. Any additional DLL named in the message or Event Viewer.

The application name and executable path are more useful than the DLL filename alone.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the application that needs it

This is the primary repair for an application DLL.

If the program has a repair or verify option

  1. Open the application’s launcher.
  2. Select the affected application.
  3. Open its menu, settings, or manage page.
  4. Choose Repair, Verify files, Scan and repair, or an equivalent option.
  5. Let the process replace missing files.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Open the application again.

For a game, use the launcher’s file-verification feature rather than copying a DLL from another installation. For a conventional desktop program, look for a repair option in its original installer.

If no repair option exists

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select Apps and then Installed apps.
  3. Find the program named in the error.
  4. Select the three-dot menu.
  5. Choose Uninstall.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Reinstall the application using its original installer or a currently trusted vendor or launcher source.
  8. Start the program again.

If the application is not listed, search for its original installer, launcher, or executable. Do not guess the parent program from the DLL name. If no trustworthy installer remains, installing an isolated copy of liveguard_msg.dll is unlikely to produce a stable repair.

Run the program with elevation only as a test

Some older applications fail because they cannot access their own installation directory.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click the application shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Open the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run this program as an administrator.
  5. Select Apply, then OK.
  6. Test the application.

Use this only as a diagnostic step. It does not replace reinstalling damaged application files.

Fix 2: Check whether Windows Security quarantined the file

An antivirus cleanup can remove a legitimate application file, although a missing-file warning does not prove that the deleted file was safe.

  • Stay in touch with friends and family with Microsoft Teams, which can be seamlessly integrated into your taskbar. (1)
  1. Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Review recent detections.
  5. Expand any entry associated with the affected application or liveguard_msg.dll.
  6. Check the file path and detection details.
  7. Restore or allow the file only if the application came from a trusted source and you have confirmed the detection is a false positive.
  8. Prefer repairing or reinstalling the parent application after confirming the situation.
  9. Start the application again.

Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the device. Do not add a broad exclusion for the application folder merely to suppress the error. If the file is detected again immediately after reinstalling, stop and scan the installer and the system.

Fix 3: Check for a missing dependency

“The specified module could not be found” can mean that liveguard_msg.dll exists but another DLL required by it is absent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

First, inspect the application’s installation folder:

  1. Right-click the application shortcut.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Check the Target field to find the executable path.
  4. Open that folder in File Explorer.
  5. Look for liveguard_msg.dll beside the application executable or in one of its subfolders.
  6. Do not move the file. Note whether it is missing, quarantined, or present.

If the error also names a Microsoft runtime file, install the matching package from Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable guidance. Examples include VCRUNTIME140.dll and MSVCP140.dll.

Reinstalling Visual C++ does not specifically restore liveguard_msg.dll, because this file is not identified as a Microsoft runtime. Install it only when the diagnostic names a runtime or the application’s official requirements call for it.

DirectX has the same limitation. Do not reinstall DirectX solely because an unrelated application DLL is missing. Use the application’s own installer and requirements first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Fix 4: Check the 32-bit and 64-bit match

The indexed build of liveguard_msg.dll is listed as 32-bit. A 32-bit application can run on 64-bit Windows, but it still needs the correct 32-bit files in its own application directory.

To identify the application architecture:

  1. Start the affected program if possible.
  2. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  3. Select Details.
  4. Right-click a column heading.
  5. Select Select columns.
  6. Enable Platform, if that option is available.
  7. Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.

You can also inspect the application’s installer or official system requirements. Do not replace a 32-bit DLL with a similarly named 64-bit file. Reinstall the exact application build instead.

If a 64-bit program is requesting this particular 32-bit file, that may indicate an older component, an incorrect installation, or a dependency mismatch. The application vendor’s installer is the correct place to obtain the matching files.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components as a secondary check

DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components and protected Windows files. They will not normally recreate a proprietary third-party application DLL, so run them after repairing the parent program, not instead of doing so.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  3. Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
  4. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for the command to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the affected application.

If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, test again after restarting. If it reports that it could not repair some files, install pending Windows updates and repeat the DISM command followed by SFC. If both commands complete without finding a problem, return to the application repair rather than repeatedly running them.

If you want to avoid manually hunting through repair output and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what it finds; the repair action is handled by the full version, but reinstalling the application remains the definitive fix for this file.

Fix 6: Update a related driver only when the application requires one

A driver update is relevant only if the affected application depends on a particular device, capture card, security device, printer, or other hardware and its own diagnostics point to that driver.

For a manual driver check:

  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the category for the relevant hardware.
  4. Right-click the device.
  5. Select Update driver.
  6. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  7. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
  8. Test the application.

You can also select Properties, open the Driver tab, and record the provider and version before changing anything. Do not update unrelated drivers simply because liveguard_msg.dll is missing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If identifying which of many installed drivers is stale is the difficult part, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver updates; installation of drivers is handled by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns this DLL.

Fix 7: Remove an orphaned startup entry

If the error appears immediately when Windows starts, but the original application was already removed, Windows may still be launching an orphaned entry.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Select Startup apps.
  3. Look for the removed or unknown program.
  4. Right-click it and select Disable.
  5. Restart Windows.

You can also check Settings, Apps, Installed apps for the old program and remove it properly if it remains listed. Do not delete random registry entries based only on the DLL filename.

If the startup message continues, record the exact dialog text and check Event Viewer:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Right-click Start.
  2. Select Event Viewer.
  3. Open Windows Logs and then Application.
  4. Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
  5. Record the application name, executable path, and any additional module listed.

What not to do

Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64

Application DLLs are normally loaded from the application directory or another configured location. Copying a 32-bit third-party file into a Windows system directory can create conflicts and makes future troubleshooting harder.

Do not use an automatic DLL fixer

A DLL filename alone does not prove the correct publisher, version, architecture, or parent program. An installer that promises to fix every DLL can replace one missing file while leaving its dependencies or application registration damaged.

Do not run regsvr32 for this file

regsvr32 applies to DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that liveguard_msg.dll is a COM or ActiveX server.

Running this command is therefore not a recommended repair:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
regsvr32 liveguard_msg.dll

It may return an entry-point error, and registering the file would not restore a missing application dependency.

Do not whitelist an unknown DLL

A missing-file error is not proof that antivirus software made a mistake. Verify the application source and the file path before restoring anything from quarantine.

FAQ

Is liveguard_msg.dll part of Windows?

There is no reliable evidence that it ships with Windows. Available public metadata identifies it as a third-party application DLL.

Is it part of Visual C++ or DirectX?

It is not identified as either Microsoft runtime. Reinstall those components only when the application also reports a missing Microsoft runtime or its official requirements specify them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which program installs liveguard_msg.dll?

The exact host application is not publicly verified. The repeated public association is “LiveGuard MU MSG,” but that description does not establish a specific game, installer, or program.

Is liveguard_msg.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?

The indexed build is listed as 32-bit. No verified 64-bit build has been established. Use the original application installer for the correct architecture.

Can I download the DLL separately?

That is not the safe repair. Use the original application installer, launcher, or vendor source to restore the complete application and its dependencies.

What if reinstalling the program does not help?

Check Windows Security Protection history, confirm the executable path, look for additional missing modules, and inspect the Application log in Event Viewer. If the program is obsolete and no trusted installer exists, retaining it may be less safe than removing the orphaned software rather than sourcing an isolated DLL.
