If you’re locked out of your PS5 account, recover the PlayStation account—not the console. If you can access its sign-in email, use PlayStation’s account-recovery flow. If you’re blocked by two-step verification, a lost passkey device, or an email account you can no longer open, follow the matching steps below; some cases require PlayStation Support.
These menu paths come from PlayStation’s US support pages. Support options and wording can vary by region.

Start with what you can still access
| What you still have | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Access to the account’s sign-in email | Use Account Management to recover the account or reset its password. |
| No access to the sign-in email, or you don’t remember it | Contact PlayStation through the Online Assistant. |
| A saved two-step verification (2SV) backup code | Use the code at the 2SV prompt. Each code works once. |
| No backup code or access to the registered phone | Contact PlayStation through the Online Assistant. |
| Another device with your passkey verification method | Try signing in there, then register a replacement passkey. |
| Unrecognized account changes | Report the activity to PlayStation through the Online Assistant. |
If you can access the account email, reset the password
- Open PlayStation Account Management and choose Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account from the sign-in page.
- Enter the account’s sign-in ID, which is its email address, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the secure link PlayStation sends to that email and complete the reset. If the message does not arrive, check spam or junk.
You can also start the reset on your PS5: go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In, then follow the on-screen instructions. The exact labels may vary by region or software version. PlayStation’s password-reset guide covers both routes.

If you can’t access the email or forgot the sign-in ID
PlayStation directs people who cannot open the account email needed for a password-reset or 2SV email—and those who have forgotten the email address—to its Online Assistant. Contacting Support does not guarantee a particular outcome or timeline; be ready to follow its account-verification process.

If two-step verification is blocking sign-in
Use a saved backup code
At the verification prompt, choose Trouble Receiving Code? > Sign In Using a Backup Code and enter one of the codes you saved when enabling 2SV. PlayStation provides ten backup codes, and each can be used once. On PS5, enter a backup code at the 2SV screen.
If a text message code hasn’t arrived
PlayStation says a verification code remains valid for ten minutes after the sign-in attempt. Its 2SV troubleshooting guidance recommends resending the code, waiting a few minutes, restarting your phone, checking that airplane mode is off, and checking your mobile signal. If the code still does not arrive, contact PlayStation Support.

Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
You can’t sign in on another device
Contact PlayStation through the Online Assistant. If the passkey itself is failing, PlayStation’s passkey guide says to choose Can’t Sign In with Passkey and use email or a QR code where available.
Passkey support and compatibility depend on the devices and software involved. PlayStation says passkeys are supported on most mobile devices with iOS 16 or later or Android 9 or later; it also notes that using passkeys between some Android and Windows devices can cause issues. Its guide recommends returning to password sign-in for certain Remote Play on Mac or outdated-browser problems. Check the live guide for current limitations.

What not to do
- Don’t keep guessing passwords; use the account recovery flow instead.
- Don’t factory-reset your PS5 to try to unlock the account. PlayStation’s account-recovery instructions do not identify a console reset as a recovery method.
- Don’t pay a third-party “account recovery” service or treat a product as a substitute for PlayStation Support.
