The $6.4 million figure in the earlier headline is outdated; it is not the reported result of this sale.
How much did Logan Paul sell the Pikachu Illustrator for?
The auction result was $16,492,000. Guinness World Records identifies Goldin Auctions as the sale channel and 16 February 2026 as the date. The Associated Press independently described the result as approximately $16.5 million.

Why do reports also mention $5.275 million?
That was Paul’s earlier purchase price, not the later auction result. Guinness reports that he bought the card for $5,275,000 in 2021, when the transaction set a private-sale record. The distinction is between two separate transactions:

What makes the Pikachu Illustrator notable?
The card is a Pikachu Illustrator graded PSA Gem Mint 10. The Associated Press reports it was designed by Atsuko Nishida for a 1998 contest and that only a few dozen are believed to exist. That is an estimate, not a confirmed count of surviving copies.

The record classification matters: Guinness lists the $16,492,000 result as the most expensive Pokémon trading card sold at auction. Paul’s 2021 purchase was a separate private transaction. These two figures describe the card’s reported transactions, not the wider trading-card market.
