logger.dll is not one standard Windows DLL. The name has been used by unrelated applications, games, and libraries, so the correct fix is to identify the program that installed it and repair that program.
Do not start by downloading a replacement file. A copy with the same filename may belong to different software, use the wrong architecture, or fail because another dependency is missing.
What logger.dll belongs to
There is no verified single developer, product version, architecture, file size, or standard Windows location for logger.dll. It may be:
- A private native DLL stored beside an application executable.
- A .NET assembly used by an application for logging.
- A component installed inside a game folder or vendor runtime directory.
- A file removed or quarantined during an update, cleanup operation, or malware scan.
The filename alone cannot identify the correct binary.

| Property | What you can safely conclude |
|---|---|
| File name | logger.dll |
| Windows component | Not established as a standard Windows file |
| Developer | Not listed |
| Description or internal name | Not listed |
| Known version, size, and bitness | Not listed |

Different products have used this filename, including application libraries and game files. That is why replacing it with a generic copy is unsafe.
First, identify the program that needs the file
Before repairing Windows, collect the details shown by the error.
Look for the following:
- The dialog title. It may name the game, launcher, installer, or service.
- The complete error message, including any path.
- A second missing filename, such as another DLL named in the same dialog.
- The folder containing the executable.
- Whether the problem started after an update, reinstall, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, moving the program, a failed Windows or driver update, malware removal, or restoring a backup.
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Whether
logger.dllis present but still fails to load.
If the program opens briefly before the error appears, open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Details, right-click the relevant process, and choose Open file location.
You can also right-click the application shortcut, select Properties, and inspect the Target field. The folder beside that executable is usually the first place where an application-specific DLL is expected.
If you can find the file, right-click it and choose Properties. On the Details tab, check the company name, product name, version, and original filename. Open the Digital Signatures tab if it exists. An absent signature is not automatically proof of malware, but an unexpected signer, random location, or mismatched product information requires caution.
Fix 1: Verify or repair the owning application
This is the most likely solution for an application-private logger.dll.
For a game launcher
- Open the game’s official launcher.
- Select the affected game.
- Open its settings, manage menu, or properties page.
- Choose Verify, Repair, Scan and repair, or Validate files, depending on the launcher.
- Wait for the file check to finish.
- Restart the launcher and start the game again.
A successful repair normally restores the application’s own copy and any files it depends on. If the launcher reports that files cannot be replaced, close the game and launcher, restart Windows, and run the launcher as administrator by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator.
For a desktop application
First check the application’s Help, Settings, or Apps entry for a repair function.
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Test the application.
On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features, select the program, choose Advanced options, and use Repair when available.

If there is no repair option, use the original installer from the software publisher or the legitimate store where you obtained the program. Preserve saved games, profiles, templates, and settings before uninstalling if the application stores them locally.
Then:
- Uninstall the application from Settings > Apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Download or launch the installer from the publisher or legitimate store.
- Install the same application again.
- Apply its updates.
- Test it before copying old program files back into the installation folder.
Do not copy logger.dll from another computer or another release of the same program. A different build can produce a bad-image error or fail to load its own dependencies.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security may have removed or quarantined an application DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for the application folder or
logger.dll. - Open a relevant detection and inspect its path, threat name, and action.
- Restore the file only if you have verified the application, location, publisher, and digital signature.
- If the file is unknown or suspicious, leave it quarantined.
- Repair or reinstall the application from its official source instead.
- Run a full scan from Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
Never disable antivirus protection merely to make an unknown DLL load. If logger.dll appears in a temporary folder, an unfamiliar startup directory, or a location unrelated to the affected program, treat it as suspicious until its parent application and signer are identified.
Fix 3: Install the exact documented prerequisite
A message saying “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that logger.dll itself is absent. The file may exist while one of its dependent DLLs is missing.
Check the affected application’s official support documentation or installer for a named prerequisite. Do not assume that every logger.dll error requires Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
For a native application that explicitly requires Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, install the package architecture matching the application:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable downloads
- x86 Visual C++ Redistributable
- x64 Visual C++ Redistributable
- ARM64 Visual C++ Redistributable
A 32-bit application can require the x86 package even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Install x64 only when the application requires it, and follow the publisher’s instructions if it names a particular runtime release.
If the file is a .NET assembly rather than a native DLL, repair the application’s documented .NET prerequisite instead. You can check Properties > Details and the application documentation, but do not rename or register the file to force it to load.

Check optional Windows components only when documented
Some older applications require a Windows feature such as .NET Framework 3.5.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Enable the feature explicitly named by the application’s documentation.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Test the application.
Do not enable unrelated legacy features simply because logger.dll is missing. Windows Features cannot identify which third-party application owns this filename.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix 4: Check architecture and the application path
Architecture mismatch is common when an old 32-bit application is installed on 64-bit Windows.
To inspect the application:
- Open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform, if available.
- Compare the application’s platform with the prerequisite installed for it.
You can also inspect the publisher’s system requirements or installer options. Use the 32-bit or 64-bit build specified by the vendor.
Check that the program was not moved manually after installation. Moving only the executable, copying a game folder incompletely, or changing a drive letter can leave application-local DLLs and dependencies behind. Reinstalling to the intended folder is safer than rebuilding the directory by hand.
Windows normally searches the application directory before system locations. This is why the correct copy commonly belongs beside the program executable rather than in System32 or SysWOW64.

A driver is not established as the owner of logger.dll, but a driver update can expose an application compatibility problem or cause a game to stop starting. Use this path only when the failure began immediately after a driver change or the application documentation identifies a driver dependency.
Update through Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For graphics, audio, chipset, or specialized hardware, the manufacturer’s official support page may provide a newer package than Device Manager.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of checking which of dozens of installed drivers is stale: its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation through the full version is optional. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns logger.dll.
Roll back a recent driver
If the error started after a driver update:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver, if available.
- Restart Windows.
If rolling back does not help, use the device manufacturer’s official installer and select a clean installation option when provided.

Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows repair commands when multiple unrelated applications are failing, Windows features are also damaged, or system files report errors. These commands are unlikely to recreate an application-specific logger.dll.
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker. A successful SFC result means Windows system files were checked; it does not prove that the third-party application’s private DLL has been restored.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of checking system problems less repetitive: its free scan shows what it identifies, while repair through the full version is optional. When logger.dll belongs to a game or application, repairing or reinstalling that program remains the definitive fix.
Fix 7: Use System Restore only for a system-wide change
Use System Restore when the failure began immediately after a Windows change, software installation, or update and an appropriate restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs to review the impact.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Let Windows restart and complete the operation.
System Restore rolls back system files, drivers, and settings, but it does not replace personal files. It may not contain an application-private logger.dll, so reinstall the owning application if the error remains.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this
regsvr32 is for self-registering COM or ActiveX DLLs that provide a DllRegisterServer entry point. A normal logging library, game component, or private runtime DLL generally is not such a component.
Registering it can produce errors including module failed to load or entry-point not found. It does not install missing dependencies and does not repair a damaged application.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor explicitly identifies the file as a COM server and provides the correct registration command. For a 32-bit DLL on 64-bit Windows, the 32-bit registration tool may also be required. Do not guess the command.

What not to do
- Do not download an arbitrary
logger.dllfrom a DLL download website. - Do not choose a file because it has the highest listed version.
- Do not copy it into
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - Do not replace one product’s file with another product’s file.
- Do not rename the file to bypass an error.
- Do not disable antivirus protection to load an unknown binary.
- Do not run
regsvr32unless the vendor confirms that registration applies. - Do not assume Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, Windows, or a driver owns this filename.
Random DLL downloads risk malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, and a continuing dependency failure. Use the affected publisher’s official installer, launcher, repair option, or documented prerequisite instead.

If the file is present but cannot load, the application vendor may need to identify its dependencies using supported diagnostic tools.
FAQ
Is logger.dll part of Windows?
There is no reliable evidence that one standard logger.dll ships with Windows in System32 or SysWOW64. The file is generally associated with the application that installed it.

No. The filename is shared by unrelated products. Repair or reinstall the affected application from its official source.
Does logger.dll always have to be missing?
No. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that logger.dll is present but one of its dependencies cannot be loaded.
Should I register logger.dll?
Usually not. Registration applies to certain COM or ActiveX DLLs, not ordinary application logging libraries.
Can SFC restore it?
Usually no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It does not normally restore a private DLL installed by a third-party game or application.
Why did the error appear after an antivirus scan?
The file may have been quarantined, or the scan may have exposed an already damaged installation. Check Protection History, validate the file’s provenance, and prefer an official application repair or reinstall.
