Logitech MX Ink is a pressure-sensitive, tracked stylus for Meta Quest 3S, Quest 3 and Quest 2. It is designed to work on a physical surface such as paper, a desk or a whiteboard while its six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) position and pressure are represented inside mixed-reality applications.
Logitech announced availability on September 25, 2024. The launch recommended $129.99 for the stylus, $169.99 for a bundle with the MX Inkwell charging stand and $49.99 for the MX Mat writing surface; those are announcement prices, so current retail price and stock may differ.
What Logitech MX Ink is
MX Ink is a pen-shaped mixed-reality input device intended to bridge ordinary 2D work and immersive 3D work. You can write or draw on a real surface, annotate, navigate virtual interfaces, sketch in three dimensions, model objects or collaborate in a Quest application without switching to a conventional gamepad-style controller.
Its fine pressure-sensitive tip is intended for physical writing surfaces, while a pressure-sensing middle input provides another way to interact in space. Logitech also specifies haptics, low-latency 6DoF tracking and configurable controls. The company positions it for creative work, education, collaboration and medical-planning workflows as well as general drawing and annotation.

Quest compatibility and requirements
| Headset | Compatibility | Required software |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Quest 3S | Supported | Quest OS V69 or later; pair through the Meta Quest app |
| Meta Quest 3 | Supported | Quest OS V69 or later; pair through the Meta Quest app |
| Meta Quest 2 | Supported | Quest OS V69 or later; pair through the Meta Quest app |
Logitech’s specification and support information lists these three Quest headsets. The stylus is not presented as a universal Bluetooth pen for phones, tablets or PCs; its tracked mixed-reality functions depend on a compatible Quest headset and software.
How to pair MX Ink
- Turn on MX Ink.
- Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone.
- Go to Headset Settings > Controllers > Pair New Controller > Pair Stylus.
- Hold the stylus’s rear button and Meta button together for four seconds.
- Complete the on-screen pairing process, then check the stylus settings in the headset.
Quest settings let you choose left- or right-hand use, enable or adjust haptics, shape the pressure curve, set the initial activation force and remap buttons. These options matter if you switch hands, use a light or heavy drawing grip, or need a particular application command on a convenient button.
Buttons and inputs
| Control | Default action |
|---|---|
| Front button | Grab |
| Rear button | A |
| Middle button, double tap | B |
| Meta button | Open the Universal Menu |
| Hold Meta for two seconds | Recenter the view |
| Hold Meta for five seconds | Power off |
Button assignments can be changed in the headset, so an application may expose a different practical layout after you customize the mapping.

Logitech rates MX Ink for up to seven hours in a typical workflow and says use with haptics is typically about three hours. These are manufacturer figures rather than independent laboratory or owner measurements, so actual runtime depends on usage and settings.
You can charge through the stylus’s USB-C port or place it in the pogo-pin MX Inkwell. A USB-C cable is not included. If you plan to charge at a desk between sessions, the Inkwell provides a stand and charging contacts; otherwise, a suitable USB-C cable is required.

Supported applications
Logitech has highlighted support for the following Quest applications:
- Gravity Sketch
- ShapesXR
- ENGAGE XR
- Adobe Substance 3D Modeler
- Arkio
- Realize Medical’s Elucis
- Painting VR
- Gesture VR
- OpenBrush
Support can vary by application version and feature implementation. A developer documentation set provides an MX Ink-specific OpenXR Interaction Profile. It also allows inputs to be reported through legacy Touch Controller fields, which can help existing projects prototype or add support without replacing every controller binding at once.

MX Inkwell and MX Mat: which accessory do you need?
MX Inkwell
MX Inkwell is a pogo-pin charging stand. It was sold separately and in a launch bundle with MX Ink. Choose the bundle or dock if a dedicated place to store and charge the stylus is more useful than connecting a cable each time.
Rank #4
- Capacitive touch screen technology is impenetrable to contaminants and liquids, for instance, dust, oil, grease and water globules
- The stylus pen is simple to handle, a bit like a traditional ball pen on the tablet
MX Mat
MX Mat is a low-friction physical writing and drawing surface. It is most relevant when you expect to write on a desk frequently and want a smoother, more consistent surface than the desk itself. It is not required for tracking or pairing.
| Purchase | Launch recommended price | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| MX Ink stylus | $129.99 | Users who already have a charging setup and do not need a dedicated stand |
| MX Ink plus MX Inkwell | $169.99 | Users who want pogo-pin charging and a storage stand |
| MX Mat | $49.99 | Frequent physical-surface writing and drawing |
Logitech published these as recommended launch prices in 2024, not guaranteed current prices on Amazon or other retailers.
MX Ink versus Quest Touch controllers
Touch controllers remain the general-purpose input shipped for many Quest experiences. MX Ink is the more specialized option when a pen workflow matters. Compare them on the factors that affect your work:

- Pressure and feedback: MX Ink adds a pressure-sensitive tip, a pressure-sensing middle input and configurable haptics.
- Tracking: Logitech specifies low-latency 6DoF stylus tracking.
- 2D-to-3D workflow: the tip is intended to contact real paper, desks and whiteboards while the stylus is tracked in the virtual scene.
- Power: Logitech quotes up to seven hours typically, or about three hours with haptics; charging is by USB-C or the optional Inkwell.
- Controls: handedness, pressure behavior and button assignments can be configured.
- Software: the named application support is concentrated in creative, design, collaboration, education and medical-planning tools.
- Cost: MX Ink is an additional purchase, with the Inkwell and MX Mat adding separate launch costs.
Who should buy MX Ink?
MX Ink makes the most sense for a Quest owner who regularly sketches, models, annotates or teaches in a supported application and wants pen-like pressure control. It is also a logical choice when moving between a physical reference surface and a virtual 3D workspace is central to the task.
It is less compelling if you mainly play games designed around standard Touch controllers, do not use the listed creative applications, or have no interest in writing on a physical surface. In those cases, the extra stylus and accessory cost may not add a meaningful capability.
