Lords of the Fallen Version 2.0 went live on April 17, 2025, adding Full Shared-Progression Co-op and a Free Friend’s Pass. The pass lets a guest who does not own the full game join a host who does—but it is not a standalone copy. Shared mode saves mainline campaign progress for both players if they meet the progression requirements; non-shared mode does not carry the guest’s story progress over.

What Version 2.0 changed

CI Games described the April 17, 2025 Version 2.0 release as a definitive edition shaped by player feedback. Alongside the co-op changes, the update added a dedicated jump button, an enhanced character creator, and refinements to combat and movement. The launch announcement also said the game had received more than 50 free updates by that date; that is the publisher’s own characterization, not an independent performance measure. The co-op redesign centers on two distinct options: Shared Progression Co-op, where campaign progress can be saved by both players, and Non-Shared Progression Co-op, where the host advances their own story while the guest’s story does not carry over.

Shared vs. non-shared progression

What happens Shared Progression Non-Shared Progression
Campaign progress Both players save mainline progress when the session requirements are met. The guest’s story progress does not carry over; the host’s story continues in the host’s world.
Guest privileges The official FAQ says guests have full privileges. The host can choose limited or full guest privileges.
Items and rewards Quest items, key items, boss rewards, and chest contents are shared when one player obtains them. Some other items must be collected individually. Some rewards are tied to the host, and some items must be picked up individually.
Who can use Friend’s Pass? A guest without the full game can join a host who owns it. The same Friend’s Pass eligibility applies.

These details are from the official Lords of the Fallen co-op FAQ, marked April 10, 2026.

Lords of the Fallen Standard Edition - PlayStation 5
  • Overhauled Character Creator – Create more lifelike characters with improved facial detail, body shapes, and visual fidelity
  • Shared-Progression Cross-Play Cooperative Play – Both players now save all main story progress as long as they’re on the same “New Game” and have defeated a similar number of main bosses within one. Both players retains all loot, 100 percent vigor, and can revive each other in all online sessions.
  • Free Friend’s Pass – Invite any friend to join your adventure in online co-op even if they don’t own the game. Friends keep loot and character progress, plus get full offline access to the tutorial and character creator
  • Revamped Combat and Movement – V2.0 adds smoother animations, better weapon response, refined lock-on, improved evasions, and new grievous strike prompts

Who can join Shared Progression Co-op?

Both players need to be at the same New Game level, and they must be within one main boss of each other in defeated-boss progress, according to the official FAQ. That means a player who pushes significantly ahead alone—particularly by defeating main bosses—may no longer qualify to join the other player’s shared session.

When shared mode is active and the entry conditions are met, both players save mainline campaign progress. The FAQ also says that quest items, key items, boss rewards, and chest contents are awarded to both players when either obtains them. Other items may still require each player to pick them up separately.

What is the Free Friend’s Pass?

Friend’s Pass is for the guest, not a second full-game license. The host must own the full game; a guest who does not own Lords of the Fallen can join that owner for the entire adventure in either Shared Progression or Non-Shared Progression Co-op. It does not give the guest a general solo copy to play independently.

What the guest keeps when leaving

Save retention depends on session type, so do not assume a Friend’s Pass guest keeps every kind of progress. In non-shared co-op, the FAQ says the guest retains experience and non-quest items, but not story progress. It also warns that some progress may not save when a Friend’s Pass player leaves; leaving to the main menu specifically does not save progress. Check the current official FAQ before ending a session if retaining progress matters.

How crossplay and passwords work

The FAQ says crossplay is supported through password matchmaking in most of the multiplayer modes it lists. To connect, both players should choose the same co-op mode and enter the same unique password. A ping restriction can also prevent a connection, and shared-mode players need to meet the progression requirements.

What happens if someone leaves a co-op session?

  • If the guest leaves, the host can continue the session.
  • If the host leaves, the session ends for both players. Each returns to their own world at their last rested or warped Vestige.
  • For a Friend’s Pass guest, some progress may not save on leaving, and returning to the main menu does not save progress.

These session and save conditions are stated in the official co-op FAQ.

How co-op has changed since Version 2.0

Version 2.0 is the April 2025 update, but its launch announcement should not be treated as the final word on how co-op works today. The October 13, 2025 v2.0.101 anniversary patch reported improved shared-progression stability, reduced desynchronization, improved multiplayer stability, and fewer Friend Pass session failures with better connectivity. Read the v2.0.101 patch notes.

A further co-op update on April 6, 2026 gave guests more freedom in shared progression, including upgrading equipment, using vendors, resting and warping between Vestiges, planting Vestige seeds, starting boss battles, and skipping cutscenes. CI Games also said matchmaking was streamlined and session stability improved. Read the April 2026 co-op update.
