Lost Soul Aside on PC: Mixed Reviews and What to Know About Performance

TechRadar reported stutters and frame-rate drops in its August 2025 PC review of Lost Soul Aside. Here’s what the developer recommends, what the official PC tiers require, and what later updates do—and don’t—confirm.

Lost Soul Aside received mixed PC coverage, with performance a clear criticism in one detailed review—but the available evidence does not show that it explains most negative user reviews or that every PC still has problems. TechRadar’s August 2025 review reported frequent stutters and frame-rate drops on its test system. The developer has since issued updates and troubleshooting advice, but the sources available do not establish that the current PC build has eliminated those issues.

What the PC review reported

In a review first published in August 2025, TechRadar’s George Yang described frequent stutters and frame-rate drops during combat, platforming, and menu use. He also reported severe slowdowns and freezes in a challenge with heavy particle effects, and said the stuttering made platforming harder. These are observations from that review period, not a current benchmark or a prediction for every PC.

Yang disclosed 23 hours of play, completion of the main campaign, and a test system with a Ryzen 7 7700X, Radeon RX 9060 XT, and 32 GB of RAM. The review also praised the combat and visuals while criticizing the story and PC performance, so its mixed assessment was not solely about frame rate. The evidence here does not establish what proportion of negative Steam reviews focus on performance. Read TechRadar’s PC review.

What the developer recommends trying

The Lost Soul Aside Development Team posted a “Graphics Settings & Performance FAQ” on Steam on September 26, 2025. Its suggestions are official troubleshooting recommendations, not independent confirmation that a particular setting will fix a problem.

Dark Souls: The Board Game – The Sunless City Core Set - A Board Game by Steamforged Games
  • Take on the role of the Herald, Pyromancer, or Warrior as you navigate the haunted ruins of The Sunless City. Your ultimate challenge?
  • A brutal battle against the formidable Dragon Slayer Ornstein and the fearsome Executioner Smough.
  • 1-3 players
  • 100 minutes + play time
  • Ages: 14+

If the game crashes during shader compilation

The FAQ says reports link some shader-compilation crashes to instability under full load on certain Intel 13th- and 14th-generation CPUs. For that reported situation, the developer suggests down-clocking with Intel XTU or reducing Maximum processor state in Windows Power Options. This is the developer’s reported explanation and advice; it does not establish a diagnosis for every crash.

If frame rates are lower than expected

  • For mid-range hardware, the game automatically applies a graphics preset that the developer says it tested for smooth performance. The FAQ advises changing it only if necessary.
  • Try lowering supersampling and shadow quality if you want to prioritize higher frame rates.
  • Compare Low Latency Mode on and off.
  • Test Frame Generation both on and off. The developer says it can reduce performance on some weaker GPUs or at high resolutions.
  • Check that Windows and graphics drivers are current, use a fast SSD with 15–20% free space, and close unnecessary background programs.

The developer’s full FAQ and dated announcements are on the Lost Soul Aside Steam news page.

How your PC compares with the official requirements

PlayStation lists five PC tiers, each with 16 GB of RAM, 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, and an 80 GB SSD. These are publisher specifications, not tested frame-rate targets; meeting a tier does not guarantee smooth play. The requirements page lists the game’s PC and PS5 release date as August 29, 2025.

Tier Graphics card Processor Memory and storage
Minimum NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 16 GB RAM; 80 GB SSD
Recommended NVIDIA RTX 2060 or AMD RX 5700 XT Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 16 GB RAM; 80 GB SSD
High NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD RX 6800 XT Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 16 GB RAM; 80 GB SSD
High ray tracing NVIDIA RTX 4080s or AMD RX 7900 XT Intel Core i7-11700 or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 16 GB RAM; 80 GB SSD
Ultra ray tracing NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti Intel Core i7-13700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X 16 GB RAM; 80 GB SSD

These tiers can help you check whether your hardware matches the publisher’s intended categories, but they are not a substitute for performance data from your own system. See PlayStation’s Lost Soul Aside support page for the official requirements.

Have updates fixed the PC performance complaints?

The developer’s Steam announcements document continued post-launch maintenance, including multiple dated patches. A November 27, 2025 demo update brought demo-related optimizations and content improvements from the main game. On December 15, 2025, the developer announced Steam Deck verification and said the default graphics configuration performs well on that handheld.

Those announcements show ongoing support, but they do not confirm that all performance complaints on desktop PCs have been resolved. The Steam Deck statement applies to that specific handheld configuration and should not be treated as evidence of equivalent performance across desktop hardware.

Can the Steam demo tell you how the full game will run?

Lost Soul Aside has a demo on Steam, so trying it on your own PC is a practical way to check how that demo performs on your setup. However, the available information does not establish that demo performance predicts the current full game on every system. Steam describes the full game as a single-player action-adventure RPG with fast-paced combat, weapon and attack combos, puzzles, and character progression. See the Steam listing and demo.

What “mixed reviews” means here

The clearest performance evidence in this article is one named reviewer’s account from August 2025, alongside the developer’s later troubleshooting advice and update announcements. That supports saying performance was a material criticism in PC coverage; it does not support saying that performance caused most negative player reviews, that every PC is affected, or that the issue is fixed now. If performance is your main concern, compare your hardware with PlayStation’s tiers and try the Steam demo, while treating the review and developer advice as useful context rather than a guarantee.
