lxaa1drs.dll is an older Lexmark component, not a normal Windows system file. If Windows says lxaa1drs.dll is missing, not found, or unable to load, repair or reinstall the Lexmark printer or scanner package that originally installed it rather than downloading the DLL by itself.
lxaa1drs.dll is reported as a 32-bit “Data Retrieval Library” from Lexmark International Inc., with reported version 1.0.0.0 and a size of about 0.73 MB. The exact Lexmark model and installer that supplied it are not publicly confirmed, so the right package must be identified from the device you used.

What this file actually does
Available file metadata identifies lxaa1drs.dll as a Lexmark Data Retrieval Library. Its reported 32-bit architecture and location inside a Windows Driver Store directory associated with wialx007.inf point to an older Lexmark imaging or printer package.

- A leftover helper program that starts with Windows
It is not part of Windows itself, and there is no evidence that Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET installs this file.
The filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe. A genuine copy should be located in a Lexmark installation or Driver Store path, not in a temporary folder, a browser-download directory, or an unrelated application folder. Public metadata describes the file as 32-bit, but that does not prove that every copy found on a computer is authentic or digitally signed.
Causes by symptom
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| Error appears when opening a scanner utility | Lexmark scanning software is incomplete | Repair or reinstall the complete Lexmark package |
| Error appears after removing a printer | A Lexmark startup helper remains | Remove the orphaned utility or reinstall the package |
| Error appears after a Windows upgrade | Older driver compatibility or missing files | Find the exact model’s compatible Lexmark package |
| Error appears after antivirus activity | The file may have been quarantined | Check Protection history before restoring anything |
| Error appears during startup | A leftover startup item or scheduled task is calling it | Identify and remove the obsolete Lexmark entry |
| “Specified module could not be found” appears | The DLL or one of its dependencies is missing | Reinstall the complete package, not only the named file |
| The file is in a temporary or unrelated folder | Possible malicious look-alike | Do not restore or register it; scan the computer |
Fix 1: Identify the Lexmark device and reinstall its complete package
This is the most likely and safest repair.
- Check the printer, scanner, or multifunction device still connected to the computer.
- Note its exact model name from the front panel, label, or device documentation.
- Open Settings with Windows key + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices on Windows 11, or Devices on Windows 10.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Lexmark device and select it.
- If the device is present, record its model before removing anything.
- Open the official Lexmark Drivers & Downloads portal in your browser.
- Search for the exact model, then select the driver package matching your Windows version and system architecture.
- Download the complete printer or scanner software package, not an individual DLL.
- Open the downloaded installer, approve the Windows prompt, and follow the setup wizard.
- Restart Windows when the installer finishes.
- Test printing and scanning, then launch the application that produced the error.
A successful repair normally removes the startup or application error and restores the device’s printing or scanning functions. If the installer says that the product is already installed, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps, locate the Lexmark software, and choose Uninstall. Restart Windows and run the official installer again.
Do not guess the model from the filename. The reported wialx007.inf association suggests an older imaging driver, but it does not identify one confirmed Lexmark product. Similarly named files such as LXAA2drs.dll, LXAA3drs.dll, and LXAA4drs.dll are not interchangeable replacements.
Manually browsing to C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository may show an old Lexmark package, but do not edit, rename, or delete Driver Store files by hand. Windows manages that area, and an incomplete change can leave the device harder to remove or reinstall.
Manually hunting through old Lexmark packages and matching driver versions can be tedious when several devices have been installed over time. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; the full version performs the driver installation, but reinstalling the exact Lexmark package remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 2: Remove an orphaned Lexmark utility
If you no longer own the Lexmark device, reinstalling its software may not be appropriate. The error may come from a leftover utility that still starts with Windows.

- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Review each Lexmark entry and identify utilities associated with the old printer or scanner.
- Select the relevant entry, choose the three-dot menu, and select Uninstall.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable a remaining Lexmark startup item only if you have confirmed that the device is no longer used.
- Restart Windows again and check whether the message returns.
If the error continues, search Task Scheduler for Lexmark entries:
- Open Start and type Task Scheduler.
- Open Task Scheduler Library.
- Look for tasks clearly belonging to the obsolete Lexmark software.
- Open a task’s Actions tab and check whether it launches a Lexmark program.
- Disable the task first rather than deleting it.
- Restart and test.
If disabling the task stops the message, you can remove the old Lexmark application through Installed apps. If you still use the printer or scanner, do not remove its software. Reinstall the complete current package instead.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine a damaged or suspicious copy. This possibility is not specific to lxaa1drs.dll, so verify the path before restoring anything.
- Open Windows Security from Start.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
lxaa1drs.dllor Lexmark software. - Expand the event and inspect the file path.
- Restore the file only when it is inside a legitimate Lexmark installation or Driver Store path and the associated package is known to be genuine.
- If the path is a temporary folder, a user profile download folder, or an unrelated application directory, leave it quarantined.
- Run Scan options → Full scan.
The safer recovery after a quarantine event is to uninstall the affected Lexmark package and reinstall it from the official Lexmark driver portal. Do not add a random DLL to an antivirus exclusion list.

Reported metadata describes lxaa1drs.dll as a 32-bit file. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit Lexmark application, but a 64-bit application cannot load a 32-bit DLL.
Check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System → About.
- Read System type under Device specifications.
- Return to the Lexmark download page.
- Select the package intended for your exact Windows version and device.
Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into C:WindowsSystem32 to force an application to start. That can create an architecture mismatch, a version conflict, or an unsafe DLL search path. Windows uses SysWOW64 for many 32-bit system components, but that does not mean a third-party Lexmark DLL belongs there.

If the error says the file is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error, reinstall the complete package rather than replacing only the DLL. The message can indicate a damaged file, an incompatible application, or a missing dependency.
Fix 5: Run DISM and SFC only for possible Windows corruption
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They are unlikely to restore lxaa1drs.dll because this appears to be a third-party Lexmark file, not a protected Windows component. They are still reasonable when other Windows files are also failing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the affected application again. If it reports no integrity violations, that does not prove the Lexmark package is intact. Reinstall the Lexmark software if the same DLL error remains.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing whether Windows files changed will not recreate a missing Lexmark application file. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues and show what needs attention; the repair is performed by the full version, and reinstalling the Lexmark package is still the direct fix for this third-party DLL.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic DLL repair
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general-purpose command for restoring a missing file, and there is no evidence that lxaa1drs.dll is a COM or ActiveX server.
Do not run this merely because the filename appears in an error:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
regsvr32 lxaa1drs.dll
It may produce another error, especially when the file is 32-bit, the command is run from the wrong system directory, or the DLL does not support registration. Use regsvr32 only if a Lexmark installer or Lexmark support instruction specifically requires it. Microsoft documents the command’s registration purpose separately from missing-file recovery.

If Device Manager still shows the Lexmark device
A damaged driver entry may remain even after the application is removed.
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Find the Lexmark device.
- Right-click it and select Uninstall device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Confirm the removal and restart Windows.
- Install the correct package from Lexmark.
Do not remove an entry when you are unsure which device it represents. If the device is still needed, disconnect it only when the installer instructs you to do so.

Some older hardware does not have a compatible package for current Windows versions. In that case:
Recommended Free Tools
- Check whether Windows offers an in-box printer or scanner driver through Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device.
- Check Windows Update for optional driver updates under Settings → Windows Update → Advanced options → Optional updates.
- Use the device only if printing or scanning works without the obsolete Lexmark utility.
- If you no longer use the hardware, remove its Lexmark applications, startup entries, and device entry.
- Consider a supported replacement if no compatible driver is available.
System Restore is a fallback only when the problem began after a known recent change and a suitable restore point exists. It is not a guaranteed way to restore a third-party Lexmark DLL.
FAQ
Is lxaa1drs.dll a Windows file?
No. Available metadata identifies it as a Lexmark component. It should not normally be copied into C:WindowsSystem32.
Is lxaa1drs.dll malware?
The filename alone cannot answer that. A copy inside a legitimate Lexmark package may be genuine, while a copy in a temporary or unrelated directory deserves suspicion. Check its path, scan it with Microsoft Defender, and avoid random replacements.

Which Lexmark printer installed it?
The exact model has not been confirmed. The reported Driver Store association suggests an older Lexmark imaging package, but it is not enough to identify one specific printer or scanner.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I download the DLL separately?
That is unsafe and usually fails to repair the underlying installation. A standalone file may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, or lack required dependencies. Reinstall the complete package from Lexmark instead.
Will SFC fix the error?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while lxaa1drs.dll appears to belong to Lexmark software. Run DISM followed by SFC when Windows corruption is suspected, then reinstall the Lexmark package if the error remains.
Should I run regsvr32?
Not normally. Use it only when Lexmark specifically documents registration for the package. It is not a general missing-DLL command.
What if the error returns after every reboot?
Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps, Task Manager → Startup apps, and Task Scheduler for leftover Lexmark software. If you still use the device, reinstall its complete package instead of disabling random entries.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat if the error appears during scanning but printing still works?
That points toward a missing scanner or WIA component rather than the basic printer driver. Reinstall the full multifunction or scanning package for the exact model, not only the print driver.
