lxaa1uict.dll is a Lexmark imaging component, not a normal Windows system DLL. When lxaa1uict.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, restore the complete Lexmark printer and scanner package instead of downloading the DLL by itself.
The file is publicly identified as WIA UI Controller and is associated with Lexmark’s Windows Image Acquisition components. WIA is Microsoft’s framework for scanner and imaging devices; Lexmark supplies the device-specific driver and scanning software.

Quick identification
| Item | What is known |
|---|---|
| File | lxaa1uict.dll |
| Reported role | WIA UI Controller |
| Associated software | Lexmark printer and scanner software |
| Historical architecture | 32-bit |
| Historical version and size | Records report version 1.0.0.0 and approximately 83.5 KB |
| Typical location | A Lexmark folder beneath the Windows driver store |
| Windows component | Not shown as a standalone Windows core file |
| Safest repair | Reinstall the complete driver package for the exact Lexmark model |
The architecture, version, size, and historical path come from public file records rather than a current Lexmark binary catalog. Treat them as identification clues, not as instructions to find a matching loose file.
First, establish whether Lexmark is involved
A missing-DLL message does not always identify the application that requested the file. The popup may appear during startup, when opening scanning software, or when another program tries to access a scanner.

Check these locations:
- Look at the printer or multifunction device for its exact model name.
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Check whether a Lexmark device is listed.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and search for
Lexmark. - Note whether the error occurs when scanning, printing, signing in to Windows, or launching a particular application.
Also check the connection type. A USB Lexmark device and a network Lexmark device can use different setup paths, but both still require the correct model-specific package.
The timing is useful:
- After uninstalling Lexmark software: the driver may be incomplete, or a startup entry may still point to the removed file.
- After a Windows upgrade or update: an older scanner package may no longer match the installed Windows environment.
- After replacing a printer: the old Lexmark software may remain while the new device uses a different package.
- After antivirus quarantine: security software may have removed the component.
- After disk cleanup, migration, or restoration: the file or its dependencies may no longer match the installed driver.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Lexmark package
This is the most likely solution when the Lexmark device is still in use. Do not search for lxaa1uict.dll as a separate download. Reinstalling the complete package restores the related scanner files, dependencies, configuration, and device registration together.
Identify the Windows architecture
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Find System type.
- Record whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
A 64-bit Windows installation can legitimately run a 32-bit Lexmark scanner component. That does not mean you should copy the file into C:WindowsSystem32; it means the Lexmark package must support the device and installed Windows environment.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Download and install the driver
- Identify the exact Lexmark model from the device label or Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads page.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select the installed Windows version.
- Select the matching architecture when the download page provides that choice.
- Download the complete print and scan package, or the WIA/TWAIN package if Lexmark lists it separately.
- If the installer cannot repair the existing installation, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Uninstall the damaged Lexmark software.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Connect the USB device only when the installer requests it. For a network device, follow the installer’s discovery or network setup prompts.
Lexmark’s compatibility guidance indicates that some models use Lexmark-provided WIA or TWAIN drivers, while others receive scanning support through Windows Update. Select the package offered for the exact model rather than substituting a similarly named component from another Lexmark device.
Confirm the result
The repair worked if:
- the startup or application popup no longer appears;
- the Lexmark device remains listed under Printers & scanners;
- the Lexmark scanning application opens;
- Windows Scanner or the application’s scan command detects the device;
- a test scan completes without another DLL or dependency error.
If printing works but scanning does not, the print driver alone may be installed. Return to the Lexmark download page and install the package containing scanner, WIA, or TWAIN support.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through device entries and guessing which driver package is stale; its free scan shows what it finds, while the repair or driver installation is completed by the full version. For this file, however, the exact Lexmark model package remains the definitive source.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software can remove a legitimate driver component, or the file may have been replaced by an untrusted copy.

- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.

- Look for an event involving
lxaa1uict.dll, Lexmark software, or the scanner package. - Do not restore the file automatically.
- Confirm that the original Lexmark package is trusted and that the detection is a false positive before restoring anything.
- Prefer reinstalling the complete package from Lexmark instead of restoring an isolated DLL.
- Run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
If the file exists outside a Lexmark driver directory, treat it cautiously. Verify its digital signature through the file’s Properties > Digital Signatures tab when available, and scan it before allowing an application to use it. A matching filename alone does not prove that the file is legitimate.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components
Windows component damage or driver-store corruption can interfere with scanner installation. These commands are not the normal replacement mechanism for a Lexmark-owned DLL, but they are appropriate when Windows itself may also be damaged.
First install pending updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the scanner again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the Windows component image, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command should be expected to download or reconstruct a third-party Lexmark component.
Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual repair process easier when you are repeatedly running SFC and DISM without knowing what changed; its free scan shows detected problems, while repair is completed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the Lexmark package remains the direct fix for this file.

If DISM or SFC reports that it could not complete the repair, restart and run the commands again from an administrator Command Prompt. If the Lexmark error remains after Windows repair, return to the model-specific driver installation rather than copying a DLL into a system folder.
Fix 4: Check the scanner service and Device Manager
The Windows Image Acquisition service must be available for many scanner workflows.
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
services.msc. - Press Enter.
- Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Double-click it.
- Set Startup type to Automatic or Manual, depending on the existing configuration.
- If the service is stopped, select Start.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Test the scanner.
Now inspect the device:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, and Printers, if present.
- Look for the Lexmark device or a device with a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Use Update driver only with the correct Lexmark package or Windows Update source.
- If the device is clearly an old, duplicated entry, select Uninstall device, restart Windows, and run the Lexmark installer again.
Do not uninstall an entry blindly if you are unsure which device it represents. Record the model and any error code first.

Fix 5: Repair the application that shows the error
If the popup appears only inside one scanning application, the application may also have lost its integration files.
- Reinstall the Lexmark driver first.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected scanning application.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- If Repair does not help, select Reset only if you understand that it may remove the application’s settings.
- If neither option exists, uninstall and reinstall the application from its official vendor installer.
A “specified module could not be found” message can refer to a dependency required by lxaa1uict.dll, not necessarily the named file itself. Reinstalling the application and the complete Lexmark package together is more reliable than replacing one file.
Fix 6: Remove a stale reference if the Lexmark device is gone
If you no longer own the Lexmark printer or scanner, restoring the DLL is usually unnecessary. The popup may come from a leftover startup entry or scheduled task.
First remove the old software:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Uninstall Lexmark applications and drivers that belong to the retired device.
- Restart Windows.
Then inspect startup items:
- Right-click the taskbar.
- Select Task Manager.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable an obsolete Lexmark entry.
- Restart Windows.
If the popup continues:
- Open Start and search for Task Scheduler.
- Open Task Scheduler.
- Review Task Scheduler Library for an old Lexmark task.
- Confirm that it belongs to the removed software.
- Disable or delete that task.
Do not delete an entry merely because its name contains a similar string. Confirm the publisher, file path, and whether the related hardware is still installed.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL separately
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible build, or a file that does not include the missing dependency. An isolated replacement also leaves the damaged driver registration and scanner configuration untouched.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse the complete package from Lexmark’s official driver-download service instead. If the device is gone, remove the obsolete software rather than rebuilding it with a loose DLL.

Do not copy it into Windows system folders
Avoid copying lxaa1uict.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- an application folder
The directory name does not tell you where this particular driver component belongs. Manual copying can create version conflicts, bypass signature checks, and conceal an incomplete installation.
Do not substitute similarly named files
Do not replace it with lxaa2uict.dll, lxaa3uict.dll, or lxaa4uict.dll. Similar filenames can represent different Lexmark components, devices, or builds.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic fix
regsvr32 works only with DLLs that expose the registration entry points it expects. Public documentation does not show that this WIA UI component requires manual registration.

Which Lexmark model installed it?
The available records do not reliably identify one originating Lexmark model. Use the device label, Printers & scanners, and Lexmark’s model search to select the correct package.
Can 32-bit lxaa1uict.dll run on 64-bit Windows?
Yes, 64-bit Windows can run 32-bit applications and driver components. The package and application still need to support the installed Windows version and the exact device.
Will installing Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET fix it?
There is no evidence that these runtimes are the primary fix. Start with the Lexmark scanner package. Investigate a missing dependency only if reinstalling the complete package does not resolve the error.
What if the error appears at every startup?
If the Lexmark device is still used, reinstall its package. If it is gone, remove the old Lexmark application and inspect Startup apps and Task Scheduler for a stale reference.
What information should I provide Lexmark support?
Provide the exact model, Windows version, system architecture, full error text, the file path shown in the error, and any related Event Viewer application error. A dependent module named in Event Viewer may be more useful than lxaa1uict.dll alone.
Should I use System Restore?
Use System Restore only when a suitable restore point predates the failure and reinstalling the correct driver did not help. It is a recovery option, not a way to select or obtain an arbitrary DLL.
