lxaa2uict.dll is a Lexmark-related component associated with the WIA UI Controller, part of older printer and scanner software. If lxaa2uict.dll is missing or was not found, repair the Lexmark package that installed it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
WIA is Windows Image Acquisition, the Windows framework used by scanner software to communicate with imaging devices. The “UI Controller” portion is associated with the scanner interface rather than with Windows itself.

What the file is and what it is not
lxaa2uict.dll is not a standard Windows system file. There is no reliable evidence that it belongs to Windows, Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPublic file records describe it as “WIA UI Controller” and associate it with Lexmark International, Inc. Some driver listings connect related files with Lexmark X543/X544 devices, but that model association should be treated as unconfirmed unless your own installer, file path, or device identifies it.

The error may appear as “The program can’t start because lxaa2uict.dll is missing,” “The code execution cannot proceed,” or “Error loading lxaa2uict.dll.” The wording alone does not identify the cause. The important clues are the application named in the title bar, when the message appears, and the path Windows was trying to use.
First, identify what is calling the file
Do this before changing Windows folders.
Check the error window
Record:
- The complete error text.
- The application named in the title bar.
- Whether it appears at sign-in, when scanning, when opening Lexmark software, or when printing.
- Whether the Lexmark device is still connected and needed.
If the message appears immediately after signing in, a leftover Lexmark startup utility may be trying to load a component that was removed. If it appears only when scanning, the scanner or WIA portion of the package is the likely caller.
Check installed applications
On Windows 11:
- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Expand any Lexmark entries and note their names.
- Do not remove the software yet if you still need to scan.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Search for Lexmark.
Also check Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Older Lexmark packages may appear there even when they are not clearly listed in the modern Settings interface.

Check the file path and signature
If a copy of the file still exists:
- Open File Explorer.
- Search the system drive for
lxaa2uict.dll. - Right-click a result and choose Properties.
- Review Location, Details, and Digital Signatures, if present.
A file inside a Lexmark driver directory is more consistent with the expected installation. A copy in an unexpected user-writable folder deserves caution. Do not assume a file is safe merely because its name matches.
You can also inspect Event Viewer:
- Right-click Start and select Event Viewer.
- Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
- Note the faulting application and module path.
If you are comfortable with Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns, search its entries for lxaa2uict.dll or Lexmark. A startup entry pointing to a deleted Lexmark folder is evidence of an orphaned reference, not proof that Windows needs the DLL.
Fix 1: Reinstall the exact Lexmark scanner package
This is the most likely fix when the device is still in use.
- Find the exact printer or multifunction-device model from its label, Windows Settings, or Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Open Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads support page.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select the Windows version that matches the computer.
- Download the complete printer and scanner software package, not only a print-only driver.
- If the installer offers repair, choose Repair.
- If repair is not offered, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall the affected Lexmark software.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the official Lexmark installer as an administrator.
- Reconnect or power on the device only when the installer requests it.
Avoid mixing a newer print driver with an older scanner utility. A print-only package may allow printing while leaving the WIA component unavailable.
If the installer offers separate choices for scanning, imaging, WIA, or multifunction utilities, include the scanner-capable components. The exact names vary by model and package.

How to tell whether this worked
Test the operation that previously failed:
- Open the Lexmark scanning application.
- Try a preview or scan.
- Open Windows Scan if it is installed and check whether the device appears.
- Restart Windows and confirm that the startup error does not return.
If the same error remains, record the installed package name, the calling executable, and the DLL path. The problem may be a missing dependency, an incompatible legacy package, or a stale startup entry rather than the DLL itself.
When manually hunting through several Lexmark packages and Windows driver entries, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies the issue, while the repair or driver installation requires the full version. For this file, the exact Lexmark model package remains the definitive fix.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
A security product may have quarantined the file after an update, cleanup, or driver installation.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the error began.
- Open any entry that refers to the Lexmark installation or DLL.
- Check the original file path and publisher information.
- Restore the file only if it came from the genuine Lexmark installer and is identified as trusted.
Do not restore an unknown copy merely because its filename matches. If the security product is uncertain, remove the Lexmark package and reinstall it from Lexmark’s official support portal. This gives you a clean installer instead of trusting a quarantined binary without context.
If the file returns to quarantine immediately after reinstalling, stop retrying the installation. Update the security product, run a full scan, and contact Lexmark or the security vendor with the detection details.
Fix 3: Remove a stale Lexmark startup reference
If you no longer use the Lexmark device, restoring the DLL is usually the wrong goal. Remove the obsolete software or startup entry instead.
First uninstall the remaining Lexmark programs:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Remove utilities associated with the unused device.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether the startup message has disappeared.
If no Lexmark program is listed, inspect startup items:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Disable an identifiable Lexmark entry.
- Restart Windows.
Do not disable an unknown entry solely because its name looks technical. Confirm its publisher and file location first. For more detailed startup entries, Autoruns can reveal scheduled tasks, services, and registry startup commands. Remove or disable an entry only after confirming that the old Lexmark hardware is no longer required.
If you still use another Lexmark device, do not remove shared software until you have confirmed which model owns the startup item.

Fix 4: Check for a missing dependency
The message “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean lxaa2uict.dll itself is absent. Windows may be unable to load a dependency required by the DLL.
Check:
- Whether the DLL is present in the Lexmark installation directory.
- Whether the parent Lexmark executable is present.
- Whether the error began after moving or manually deleting driver files.
- Whether the package is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Do not use a 32-bit DLL with a 64-bit application, or a 64-bit DLL with a 32-bit application. Public metadata for lxaa2uict.dll conflicts on this point, so the official installer and the calling application must determine the correct architecture.

That tells you the operating system architecture, but it does not by itself prove that every older Lexmark application is 64-bit. Many legacy applications have their own architecture requirements.
If the DLL exists but the error continues, reinstall the complete Lexmark package rather than copying individual files. A complete installer restores dependencies, registration data, services, and the expected directory structure.
Fix 5: Use Device Manager to remove a damaged device installation
Device Manager can help when Windows has a broken device entry, but it does not independently recreate a missing third-party DLL.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Find the Lexmark device or an entry with a warning icon.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Review the General and Driver tabs.
- If you are reinstalling the device, choose Uninstall device.
- Select the option to remove the driver package only if you are certain it belongs to the obsolete or damaged Lexmark installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct package from Lexmark.
Do not remove an entry used by a different scanner or printer. If the device is still needed and Windows recognizes it correctly, reinstalling the model-specific scanner package is more useful than repeatedly uninstalling hardware entries.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components. They generally do not recreate a Lexmark DLL removed by an uninstall, quarantine action, or failed third-party installer.
Use them when other Windows files are also failing, Windows features are damaged, or the problem began with broader system corruption.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Lexmark application again.
Microsoft documents this DISM-then-SFC sequence for repairing Windows components. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the system. If both commands complete without fixing the Lexmark error, return to the Lexmark installer rather than repeating the commands indefinitely.
When you are manually repeating repair commands without knowing which component changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair requires the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the Lexmark software that owns this DLL.

- Press Windows + R.
- Type

- Choose a restore point dated before the change.
- Review affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not a source for a correct Lexmark package. If the device is still needed, install the official model-specific software after confirming that the restore did not leave a partially removed driver.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random site
A standalone download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, or a build that does not match the Lexmark application. It may also leave the real problem untouched if a dependency, service, registry entry, or scanner package is missing.
The safe source is the official Lexmark support portal for the exact device model. If Lexmark no longer offers a supported package for old hardware, remove the obsolete software or contact Lexmark rather than substituting an anonymous DLL.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Do not copy it into System32
Copying lxaa2uict.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 is not a universal repair. The Lexmark program may expect the file beside its own executable, and forcing a DLL into a Windows folder can create path and version conflicts.
Do not run regsvr32 just because the file ends in .dll
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that provide the registration entry points expected by COM. Whether this Lexmark UI component supports that process is not verified. Running commands such as these without vendor instructions can produce another error without repairing the package:
regsvr32 lxaa2uict.dll
If the official Lexmark installer does not request registration, let the installer handle it.

FAQ
Is lxaa2uict.dll a Windows file?
No evidence supports that conclusion. It is associated with Lexmark’s WIA UI Controller software and should be repaired through the Lexmark package.
Which printer installed it?
Some third-party listings associate related files with Lexmark X543/X544 hardware, but that association is not independently confirmed from an original Lexmark archive. Identify the responsible model from your own installed software, file path, or installer.
Should I reinstall Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no available evidence that those runtimes own this file. Reinstalling them is not the first-line repair. Reinstall the Lexmark scanner-capable package instead.
Why does the error appear only at startup?
A leftover Lexmark startup item may still point to a component removed during an uninstall, cleanup, or hardware replacement. If the device is no longer used, remove the remaining Lexmark software or disable the confirmed stale startup entry.
What if the DLL exists but Windows still reports it is missing?
A dependency may be missing, or the application may be looking in a different directory. Record the complete path, check Event Viewer, and reinstall the complete Lexmark package rather than moving the DLL manually.
What if the Lexmark device is end of service life?
Older models may not have a fully supported package for current Windows versions. If the official support page provides no suitable scanner package, remove obsolete startup software or contact Lexmark. Do not solve the warning with an unverified DLL.
