Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Lexmark package
This is the most likely fix.
1. Identify the device
Check the label on the printer or scanner, or use Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Settings.
- Open Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Look for the Lexmark model.
Write down the exact model, including its series number. S410 and Pro710 families are strongly associated with this component, but do not install a driver based only on the DLL filename.
2. Check Windows architecture
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
The package must match both the exact Lexmark model and your Windows architecture. A 32-bit DLL is not a substitute for an entire 64-bit driver package, and copying a 64-bit file into a 32-bit installation will not repair the driver.

3. Remove the old Lexmark software
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Lexmark.
- Remove the Lexmark printer software, scan utility, and device-specific entries related to the affected model.
- If an entry is not listed, open Control Panel.
- Select Uninstall a program.
- Remove the older Lexmark software there.
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Lexmark printer and choose Remove.
Do not remove unrelated printer software unless you know it belongs to the same device.
4. Restart Windows
Restart before installing the replacement package. This releases files that may still be in use and clears a stale printer-service state.
5. Download the correct package
Use Lexmark’s official Drivers & Downloads portal. Search by the exact printer or scanner model, then choose the package for your Windows version and system architecture.
Prefer the complete printer/scanner software package over a basic print-only driver when the error appears while scanning. The missing library belongs to the supporting driver software, not necessarily to the basic Windows print queue.

6. Install and reconnect the device
- Run the Lexmark installer.
- Approve the administrator prompt.
- Follow the connection instructions.
- Connect the USB cable only when the installer requests it, or ensure the printer is available on the same network.
- Complete setup.
- Restart Windows again.
- Open the Lexmark scan or printer utility.
The repair worked if the utility opens without the DLL message, Windows detects the device, and printing or scanning completes normally.

If the installer cannot detect the device, check the USB cable, network connection, printer power, and Windows device list. Do not solve a detection problem by copying lxaa3drs.dll into a system folder.

- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.

If Repair does not help, return to the same page and choose Reset, if available. Resetting can remove application settings, so you may need to select the printer again afterward.

If the Lexmark entry has no repair option, uninstall it and reinstall the complete model-specific package.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
An antivirus product may have removed or isolated a legitimate driver file. Check before reinstalling repeatedly.

- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
lxaa3drs.dll, Lexmark software, or the printer installer. - Expand an entry to view its location and detection details.
Do not restore the file automatically. Confirm that it came from a genuine Lexmark installation and inspect its digital signature where possible. If you are uncertain, remove the old package and reinstall it from Lexmark instead.

If the file disappears again immediately after installation, update Windows Security, run a full scan, and investigate the detection before allowing the file.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a third-party Lexmark DLL that is absent from the Windows image, but they are useful when the error began after broader Windows corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands complete.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. You can verify the procedure in Microsoft’s System File Checker guidance.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the Lexmark utility again. If the error remains, reinstall the Lexmark driver because SFC is not a replacement for the vendor package.

Fix 5: Check Device Manager and the driver package
Device Manager can show whether Windows sees the printer or scanner as an incomplete device.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Lexmark device or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected entry.
- Select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider, date, and version.
- Select Uninstall Device only if you are ready to reinstall the complete Lexmark package.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the Lexmark installer again.
Do not manually add files to the Windows Driver Store. Windows treats driver packages as complete units containing the INF, catalog, binaries, and installation information. Microsoft describes these rules in its Driver Store documentation.
Fix 6: Check for an orphaned startup entry
If the Lexmark printer was removed but the error appears during startup, the device may be gone while its old utility remains.
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Lexmark scan monitor or printer utility.
- Select it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If the message stops, uninstall the orphaned Lexmark application from Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Do not disable Windows services at random, because the error may be coming from a scheduled task or application shortcut instead.

Windows Features are usually not the answer
Do not enable random entries under Settings > System > Optional features to repair this file. lxaa3drs.dll is not identified as a Windows feature, Visual C++ component, DirectX file, or .NET file.

Do not download the DLL by itself
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, the wrong build, or the wrong architecture. An isolated file may also lack its INF, catalog, dependencies, and registry or service configuration.
Use the official Lexmark model-based download system or Windows driver servicing instead.
Do not copy it to System32
The file normally belongs in a version-specific Lexmark Driver Store folder, not necessarily directly in C:WindowsSystem32. Copying it there can create version conflicts and bypass driver validation. It can also cause Windows to load an arbitrary copy according to its DLL search rules, creating a security risk. Microsoft explains this behavior in its DLL search order documentation.
Do not use regsvr32 as a general repair
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that expose a self-registration entry point, typically COM or ActiveX components. lxaa3drs.dll is identified as a driver-support library, not as a documented self-registering component.
Running this command is therefore usually irrelevant:
regsvr32 lxaa3drs.dll
Use it only if Lexmark documentation for the exact package explicitly instructs you to register the file. A registration error does not prove that the DLL is defective.

- Windows edition and version.
- 32-bit or 64-bit system type.
- Full error wording.
- The application that displays the error.
- The path of any remaining
lxaa3drs.dll. - Device Manager status.
- Antivirus Protection History result.
- Whether the error started after an update, cleanup, or device removal.
If no Lexmark printer, scanner, or software has ever been installed, do not download the file. Investigate the program requesting it, inspect its installation source, and run a full security scan.
For a legacy device that no longer has a current package, try the newest Lexmark package available for the exact model, a compatible Windows driver supplied through Windows Update, or a supported scanning application.
