What lxaa3uict.dll does
Microsoft WIA is the Windows architecture that lets applications communicate with scanners. Lexmark supplies device-specific WIA components, including the scanning interface and related driver files. lxaa3uict.dll is reported as the Lexmark WIA UI Controller.
Public metadata reports a 32-bit build and identifies Lexmark International, Inc. as the developer. Those details are file-database metadata rather than a universal specification for every Lexmark installation. The exact version, size, folder, and related files can vary between models, driver packages, and Windows installations.

First identify the affected Lexmark device
Before reinstalling anything, find the printer or scanner that installed the file.
From Windows Settings
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Open Printers & scanners.
- Look for Lexmark printer or multifunction-device entries.
- Select a Lexmark device and note its complete model name.
From Control Panel
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
control printers. - Press Enter.
- Look for Lexmark devices under Printers.
- Right-click the relevant device and select Properties or See what’s printing to confirm the model.
From Device Manager
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices, Cameras, Printers, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for a Lexmark scanner, WIA device, or an entry with a warning icon.
- Right-click the entry, select Properties, and check the General and Driver tabs.
If printing works but scanning fails, the printer portion may be installed while the Lexmark WIA scanning component is missing or damaged.
Fix 1: Update the Lexmark WIA driver through Windows
Lexmark recommends updating the WIA scan driver when its scanner interface does not launch.
Rank #2
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging devices or Cameras.
- Right-click the Lexmark scanner or WIA entry.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Allow Windows to search Windows Update.
- Restart the computer.
- Open Windows Scan or your normal scanning application and test the device.
If Windows reports that the best driver is already installed, continue with the model-specific installation below. Windows may not find the complete Lexmark package through this automatic search.
Manually checking model numbers, operating-system editions, architectures, and old driver packages can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation and repair require the full version. Reinstalling the exact Lexmark package remains the definitive fix for this device-specific DLL.
Fix 2: Reinstall the complete Lexmark package
This is the most likely solution when lxaa3uict.dll is genuinely missing.
- Write down the exact Lexmark model.
- Go to the official Lexmark Support website.
- Search for that model.
- Open Drivers & Downloads.
- Select your installed Windows version.
- Select the correct architecture, usually 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Download the complete printer and scanner package, or the WIA-related package listed for that model.
- Close scanning programs.
- Run the downloaded installer as administrator.
- Follow the setup instructions.
- Restart Windows.
- Test scanning from both the Lexmark application and Windows Scan.
Do not choose a package for a similar-looking model. Lexmark packages are model-specific, and a package for another device can leave the wrong WIA registration or incompatible files behind.
A 32-bit Lexmark component can be required even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Choose the package identified for your Lexmark model and Windows installation rather than assuming that every component must match the host system’s apparent bitness.
When to remove the old package first
Uninstall the existing Lexmark software before reinstalling when:
- The problem started after a Windows upgrade.
- Several Lexmark packages for different models are installed.
- Device Manager shows multiple stale Lexmark scanner entries.
- The installer repeatedly says the device is already installed.
- Scanning stopped after removing and reconnecting the printer.
To remove it:
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Remove Lexmark printer, scan, or device software related to the affected model.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the old Lexmark device and choose Remove.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the current model-specific Lexmark package.
If the package includes a Lexmark removal utility, use it according to the installer’s instructions. Do not delete individual DLLs from Windows folders.
Fix 3: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
Security software can remove a driver component if it detects suspicious behavior or mistakenly identifies the file.

Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
lxaa3uict.dllor a Lexmark driver folder. - Check the detection location and details.
- Restore the file only when you have confirmed that it came from the genuine Lexmark installation.
- Reinstall or repair the Lexmark package afterward.
- Restart Windows and test scanning.
Do not restore a DLL merely because its filename matches the error. A file in an unexpected user-writable folder, a file that is unsigned, or a file that repeatedly returns after deletion deserves further investigation. Run a full scan if malware or tampering is possible.
If the file disappears again after reinstalling, review Defender and any third-party antivirus logs before adding an exclusion. Do not disable protection permanently to make the scanner work.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components when corruption is plausible
Windows component corruption can prevent a driver or one of its dependencies from loading. It normally will not recreate a missing third-party Lexmark DLL, so run these commands as a supporting repair, not as a replacement for reinstalling the driver.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the Lexmark driver package.
- Test scanning again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If either command reports that it could not complete, restart and repeat the process, then check Windows Update. If both complete successfully but the Lexmark error remains, the problem is probably still in the Lexmark package, device registration, or a missing dependency.
Repeating DISM and SFC without knowing which Windows component changed can make troubleshooting slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for Windows issues and show repair findings; its free scan identifies problems, while repairs require the full version. It is not required, and reinstalling the Lexmark software remains the appropriate fix for a missing vendor DLL.
Fix 5: Restore the system after a recent driver change
If scanning worked until a recent driver or software installation, System Restore may reverse the change.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point created before the scanning failure.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start the restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore affects system files, registry settings, and installed programs while preserving personal files. It does not replace the need to install a compatible Lexmark driver afterward if the old package was removed.
Why copying the DLL is usually the wrong fix
Downloading lxaa3uict.dll from an unrelated DLL website is risky and often ineffective. The file may have the wrong architecture, version, dependencies, digital signature, or internal relationship to the Lexmark installer. It could also be modified or placed in a directory where Windows loads it ahead of the legitimate driver.

Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application folder can create version conflicts and DLL-loading risks. Windows searches several locations when loading DLLs, so an arbitrary copy can affect more than the program showing the error.
The correct replacement is the complete Lexmark package for the exact device. There is also no reason to install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET solely because this filename appears in the message.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a universal DLL repair command.
Running:
regsvr32 lxaa3uict.dll
may produce an entry-point, access, or architecture error. A WIA component is normally installed and registered as part of the Lexmark driver package and its installation instructions. Do not manually register this file unless Lexmark specifically directs you to do so for your model.

If the error says “specified module could not be found”
That wording does not always mean the named DLL alone is absent. It can indicate that lxaa3uict.dll exists but one of its required dependencies is missing, incompatible, or blocked.
Check the following:
- The Lexmark package matches the exact device model.
- The package matches Windows 10 or Windows 11 as listed by Lexmark.
- The installation used the correct 32-bit or 64-bit package.
- The file is located inside the Lexmark installation or driver directory, not a random download folder.
- Windows Security did not quarantine a related driver file.
- Multiple old Lexmark packages are not pointing to different device instances.
- The scanning application is selecting the correct scanner.
If only one scanning application fails, repair or reinstall that application and verify its selected scanner. If every WIA application fails, prioritize the Lexmark driver, scanner device, and Windows imaging path.
If the Lexmark model is discontinued
Some older Lexmark devices have packages intended for earlier Windows releases. Check the operating-system compatibility shown on the model’s official Lexmark Support page before installing anything. Do not assume that a driver for a similar current model will work.

If no compatible package is available, printing may continue to work while scanning does not. A Lexmark support representative can confirm whether the device is supported and which package is appropriate.
FAQ
Is lxaa3uict.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is associated with Lexmark’s WIA scanner-driver software. Windows provides the WIA framework, but Lexmark supplies the device-specific component.
Which Lexmark models use it?
The exact current model list is not established by a universal official manifest. Identify the device installed on your computer and use its model-specific package rather than choosing a driver based only on this filename.
Can I download lxaa3uict.dll by itself?
You should not. There is no verified standalone official download. Install the complete Lexmark driver and scanning package.
Will System File Checker restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files. It may repair a Windows dependency, but a missing Lexmark DLL generally requires reinstalling the Lexmark package.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy does printing work while scanning fails?
Printing and scanning use different driver paths. The printer driver can remain functional while the Lexmark WIA scanner component is missing or damaged.
What should I give Lexmark support?
Provide the exact device model, Windows version and build, complete error text, the file path if the DLL exists, the installed Lexmark driver version, and whether printing still works. This helps distinguish a missing file from a missing dependency or broken WIA registration.
