MUT uses online services and includes Coins earned through games and Points that can be purchased for packs and bundles, as described in the Madden NFL 21 manual. Work through these checks in order
1. Check EA and platform service status
Start with service status before changing local settings. EA’s current general Madden connection guide recommends checking EA server status and the relevant platform’s service status; outages or maintenance can block online modes such as MUT. Timing and scope can help you decide what to try next, but they are clues rather than a diagnosis: an error appearing suddenly for multiple players or immediately when entering an online mode is consistent with a service-side problem. If services appear normal and other players are not reporting the same issue, continue with the steps below.
2. Refresh the MUT lineup if you can reach MUT menus
EA documented a lineup refresh for a related “servers cannot process your request” error. - Open MUT Roster.
- Open the Lineup Adjustment Tool and create a new lineup.
- Choose BEST TEAM OVR.
- Deactivate Superstar players.
- Try a Solo Challenge before making further lineup changes.
- If needed, try removing or swapping Team Visuals and Strategy Items.
If the error prevents you from opening MUT menus, skip this branch rather than assuming you can change the lineup from elsewhere.
3. Rule out a local connection problem
If service status does not explain the issue, restart the game and device, then restart your router or modem and check that your internet connection is working. EA’s related MUT troubleshooting also suggests power-cycling the Xbox, PlayStation, or PC and rebooting the network. 4. Contact EA Support if access or balances remain a concern
If you remain locked out or believe your balance is missing, contact EA Help so support can assess the account. An EA community manager previously directed still-affected MUT players to EA Support for account review. Include your EA ID or account email, platform and platform ID, when the issue began, the exact error wording, troubleshooting already attempted, and a screenshot or video if possible. Compare what you see with service status and other players’ reports. An issue affecting many players at once is more consistent with a service-side disruption; an issue limited to one account while services appear normal makes local or account-specific checks more relevant. These indicators can guide troubleshooting, but they do not identify the cause of this historical Madden 21 error with certainty.
Do not treat the message as proof of lost currency, and do not assume that buying Madden Points, reinstalling the game, purchasing another copy, or changing network hardware will fix it. The cited sources do not support those as remedies for this error.
