Wizards of the Coast’s October 25, 2024 teaser previewed a Magic: The Gathering set built around the FINAL FANTASY series. The tabletop set is no longer upcoming: it released June 13, 2025, with its Magic: The Gathering Arena release on June 10, 2025. The finished collaboration spans the mainline games from the original FINAL FANTASY through FINAL FANTASY XVI, with character cards, Commander decks, boosters, and more.
What the sneak peek announced
Wizards of the Coast’s teaser video, published October 25, 2024, introduced FINAL FANTASY as a Magic: The Gathering set planned for June 13, 2025. The announced date was for tabletop; Wizards lists June 10, 2025, for the Arena release. Both dates have passed. Wizards’ teaser announcement and its product page provide the original dates and set information.
The idea was to bring FINAL FANTASY characters, places, and story moments into Magic cards. Square Enix said the release drew on every mainline FINAL FANTASY game released to that point, from the original through FINAL FANTASY XVI. Wizards describes the set as covering sixteen mainline games. Square Enix’s announcement explains the series-wide scope.
What the finished set contains
The main set, designated FIN, contains 309 cards, according to Wizards. The release also includes FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages (FCA), a 64-card bonus sheet that puts FINAL FANTASY art on iconic Magic cards. Square Enix reported more than 100 legendary creature cards across the overall release; that figure applies to the full release, not just the 309-card main set. Wizards’ product details and Square Enix’s announcement describe these components.

Legality depends on which part of the release a card comes from. Wizards identifies the main FINAL FANTASY set (FIN) as Standard-legal. The Commander (FIC) and Through the Ages (FCA) cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage; individual cards may also retain legality in other formats where they were already available. Check the legality of a specific card before building a deck, since the product label alone does not establish that every card is legal in every format. Wizards’ product information outlines the distinctions.

What the creators said about the crossover
At PAX East, Zakeel Gordon, then identified as Executive Producer for Magic: The Gathering at Wizards of the Coast, said: “We have a deep appreciation for the FINAL FANTASY series and that passion guided us every step of the way as we created this set.” The announcement also quoted Shoichi Ichikawa, identified as Producer of the FINAL FANTASY VII mobile title FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS: “We hope that players appreciate and enjoy the care and attention to detail in every single card that went into creating this one-of-a-kind set.” Both statements appeared in Square Enix’s 2025 announcement.
A later look at the collaboration is available in a Wizards interview page published March 10, 2026. It identifies Tetsuya Nomura as FINAL FANTASY Creative Director and notes the interview originally took place in May 2025. Read the interview for more context on the creative collaboration.
