The identity of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm card described as using “a very rare old rule” cannot be verified from the available official set materials. Wizards’ rules bulletin, mechanics article, release notes and collecting guide explain the set, but do not identify that card or the older rule. A secondary listing repeats the headline without the reporting needed to confirm either detail. Naming a card or explaining the rule as fact would risk misleading readers.
What can be confirmed about the headline?
The phrase “a new card with a very rare old rule” appeared in a March 19, 2025 listing of a Polygon headline. That listing does not identify the card or explain the rule. The official Tarkir: Dragonstorm Update Bulletin, mechanics article, release notes and collecting guide do not establish the pairing. The card and old rule therefore remain unidentified here.
Which rules did Tarkir: Dragonstorm add?
Wizards’ April 9, 2025 update bulletin summarizes rules changes planned for the set and says the official comprehensive rules take precedence if its summary conflicts with them. The new mechanics it lists are Omen, behold, endure, harmonize and mobilize.
Omen
Some Dragon cards have Omen as an alternate instant or sorcery mode. When a player casts a card as an Omen spell, that mode’s characteristics apply while it is on the stack. If the Omen spell resolves, the card is shuffled into its owner’s library. In other zones, its normal creature-card characteristics apply.

Endure N gives a choice: put N +1/+1 counters on the permanent with the ability, or create an N/N white Spirit creature token.

These are set mechanics, not evidence of which older rule the headline means. Matt Tabak’s March 18, 2025 mechanics article and the bulletin describe the new rules, but neither confirms the headline’s card-rule pairing.
How to check a card’s legality
Wizards’ March 28, 2025 release notes state that cards with the TDM set code were permitted in Standard, Pioneer and Modern at the set’s release. New TDC Commander cards were permitted in Commander, Legacy and Vintage. These are release-time statements, not confirmation of current legality: check the official format lists and banned lists before relying on a format claim.

Can a booster help you find the card?
Wizards’ 2025 collecting guide lists Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander decks and Bundles as Tarkir: Dragonstorm products. Play Boosters support Draft and Sealed and can contain TDM and Special Guests cards, but their contents are randomized; buying one does not guarantee any particular card.
- A Play Booster box contains 30 boosters.
- An individual Play Booster contains 14 Magic cards, plus an art card or non-foil double-sided token.
- The set includes 10 Special Guests cards.
Wizards announced a worldwide tabletop release of April 11, 2025, and its collecting guide named Amazon among retailers at that time. Those dated details do not establish current stock or prices. If you want one specific card, a confirmed single is more direct than a randomized booster; the available information does not identify which single to seek.
