“The program can’t start because maguicommonet.dll is missing from your computer.” The maguicommonet.dll error usually means an older ArcSoft application has lost one of its own files.
Do not begin by downloading a random DLL or copying it into System32. The reliable repair is to identify the ArcSoft program that needs the file, check whether security software removed it, and then repair or reinstall that parent application.

Which fix applies to you
- You know which ArcSoft program is failing: Repair it from Windows, then reinstall it from its original trusted installer if repair does not work.
- The error appeared after antivirus activity: Check Windows Security protection history before reinstalling anything.
- The error appears at startup but no program opens: Find the executable or stale startup entry that is calling the missing file.
- The message says “bad image,” “entry point not found,” or “not designed to run on Windows”: Suspect a wrong-version, damaged, or architecture-mismatched file rather than a simple missing file.
- The error is accompanied by a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime message: Repair the appropriate Visual C++ Redistributable separately.
- Several Windows components are failing: Run DISM and SFC for Windows corruption, but do not expect them to restore an ArcSoft DLL.
- The failure began immediately after a system change: Consider System Restore.
- The original ArcSoft installer is unavailable: Remove the orphaned application if it is no longer needed rather than sourcing an isolated DLL.
What is maguicommonet.dll
maguicommonet.dll is a third-party application library associated with ArcSoft’s MagUICommonET component. Public file inventories list it among ArcSoft modules and associate it with older ArcSoft multimedia software, including TotalMedia-related installations.
That association does not prove that every copy came from ArcSoft TotalMedia or from one identical product build. The exact parent application must be identified on the affected computer.

This file is not a Windows component. There is no reliable evidence that it ships with Windows in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. A commonly reported application location is:
C:Program FilesCommon Filesarcsoftbin
Treat that as a reported location, not a guaranteed path. Older ArcSoft programs may use their own installation directory, a shared-program directory, or a folder selected by the original installer.
Public indexes also report conflicting file versions and sizes. The correct copy must match the original application’s build and architecture, which is another reason an isolated download is unsafe.
Identify the application that needs the file
Before repairing anything, find the program that is actually calling maguicommonet.dll.
Check the error window and shortcut
Look at the title bar of the error and the executable named in any expanded message. Then:
- Right-click the affected Start-menu shortcut.
- Select More and then Open file location, if available.
- Right-click the shortcut in the resulting folder.
- Select Properties.
- Check the Target field for the program’s executable path.
The folder name or executable name may identify the ArcSoft application. You can also right-click the program’s shortcut and choose Open file location directly in some Windows versions.
Check installed programs
On Windows 11:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for ArcSoft, TotalMedia, or the name of the program that fails.
On Windows 10:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Apps & features.
- Search the installed-program list.
If the program is not listed in Settings, open Control Panel:

- Press
Win + R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for the ArcSoft program in Programs and Features.
Do not uninstall it yet unless you already have a trusted installer or recovery source. First try the repair procedure.

Fix 1: Repair the ArcSoft application
Windows can expose a repair action when the application’s installer supports it.
From Windows Settings
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the ArcSoft application.
- Select its menu button or the program entry.
- Choose Advanced options, if shown.
- Select Repair.
- Start the ArcSoft program again.
Repair should restore missing application files without removing your personal data or settings. If the error remains, return to the same screen and use Reset only if you understand that it may remove the program’s stored settings.
From Control Panel
For classic desktop software:
- Press
Win + R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the ArcSoft application.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the program.
If neither repair option exists, proceed to a reinstall.
Fix 2: Reinstall from a trusted source
A reinstall is the most dependable fix when the original program was incompletely installed, partially uninstalled, updated incorrectly, or damaged by cleanup software.
- Locate the application’s original installer, device-maker recovery media, or a legitimate backup.
- If the program has an uninstall entry, remove it from Settings > Apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the trusted installer.
- If Windows asks for administrator permission, approve it.
- Complete the installation using the original program’s normal settings.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the application from its newly installed shortcut.
Do not replace the missing file with a copy from another ArcSoft product. Even two ArcSoft applications can require different builds, dependencies, or 32-bit libraries.
If the installer fails, right-click it, select Properties, open Compatibility, and use Run this program as an administrator only when necessary. Also check that security software is not blocking the installer.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may have quarantined or removed the DLL. The filename alone cannot determine whether a file is safe, so inspect its origin and detection.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a detection involving
maguicommonet.dllor the ArcSoft installation directory. - Open the detection to view its original path and classification.
- If the file came from a trusted, signed ArcSoft installation and the security record indicates a false positive, follow Windows Security’s Restore or Allow on device workflow.
- Reinstall the parent application instead if the file’s origin is unclear.
Only restore a file when you can verify that it came from the legitimate application installer and the computer’s security scans are clean. Microsoft notes that a restored quarantined item may be detected again unless it is explicitly allowed.

If the file disappears again after reinstalling, check Protection history, controlled-folder access, third-party antivirus logs, and any cleanup utility that may be deleting the ArcSoft shared directory.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Many older ArcSoft applications are 32-bit. A 32-bit application normally requires a 32-bit copy of its DLL, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows.
Do not copy a 64-bit replacement into a 32-bit application’s folder. Do not copy either version into System32 or SysWOW64 to make the error disappear. That can create version conflicts and expose other applications to an untrusted library.
The safest architecture check is the original application’s installer or documentation. If the error changes from “missing” to “bad image,” “entry point not found,” or “not designed to run on Windows,” reinstall the matching application build rather than trying random DLL versions.
Fix 5: Repair a separate Visual C++ dependency
maguicommonet.dll is not verified as a Visual C++ Redistributable file. Installing Visual C++ does not replace it.
However, the ArcSoft application may also depend on a Microsoft C or C++ runtime. Install or repair a Visual C++ Redistributable only when the error separately identifies a Microsoft runtime, such as a missing VCRUNTIME or MSVCP file.
Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable download page. For a 32-bit ArcSoft application, the x86 package is normally the relevant architecture, even on 64-bit Windows. The x64 package is for 64-bit applications.
After installing or repairing the runtime:
- Restart Windows.
- Start the ArcSoft application.
- If
maguicommonet.dllis still missing, repair or reinstall the ArcSoft program. The runtime installation did not restore the ArcSoft file.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
SFC and DISM are useful when Windows system files or the Windows component store are corrupted. They are not designed to restore a third-party DLL deleted from an ArcSoft application folder.

Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
Run these commands in this order:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish, then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands complete. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the ArcSoft application again. If both commands complete successfully but the DLL error remains, return to the application repair or reinstall steps.
Repeating these commands will not reconstruct a missing ArcSoft installation. Outbyte PC Repair can reduce the manual work of hunting through repair results and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed; its free scan shows detected issues, while repair requires the full version, and reinstalling the ArcSoft program remains the definitive fix for this file.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a system change
If the error began after a driver installation, cleanup operation, update, or other system change, System Restore may return system files and settings to an earlier restore point without removing personal files.

Drivers are not the normal source of maguicommonet.dll, but an older ArcSoft program may interact with a camera, capture device, scanner, optical drive, or graphics component.
Use the hardware maker’s official driver package first. You can also check Windows:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the device has a warning icon, right-click it and choose Uninstall device, then restart Windows so Plug and Play can detect it again. Do not uninstall hardware unless you can identify the device and have a recovery path.

If the error appears at startup with no visible program
An orphaned ArcSoft startup entry may still be calling the missing DLL after the original program was removed.
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc. - Select Startup apps.
- Look for an ArcSoft entry or an item whose file path points to an old ArcSoft directory.
- Right-click it and select Open file location, if available.
- Disable the entry only when you recognize it as the obsolete program.
Also inspect Task Scheduler for a task tied to the old application. The safest permanent fix is to uninstall the original program properly. Do not download the DLL merely to silence a stale startup command.

Use these checks:
- Open Reliability Monitor by pressing
Win + R, enteringperfmon /rel, and pressing Enter. Look for application failures beginning when the DLL error started. - Open Event Viewer by pressing
Win + R, enteringeventvwr.msc, and pressing Enter. Check Windows Logs > Application for the failing executable and module name. - Review the ArcSoft application’s installation log, if its installer created one.
- Confirm that the installation directory and shared ArcSoft directory are writable.
- Check disk health if multiple unrelated files are disappearing.
- Test the program under a new local Windows user profile if only one account experiences the failure.
- If no ArcSoft program is installed and no legitimate installer is available, uninstall the orphaned software or disable its stale startup component.
Frequently asked questions
Is maguicommonet.dll a Windows system file?
No public evidence supports that. It is associated with ArcSoft software and should remain with the application that installed it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Which ArcSoft program uses it?
Public inventories associate it with older ArcSoft multimedia software, including TotalMedia-related installations. They do not establish one universal parent product for every copy, so identify the failing executable on your computer.
Should I download maguicommonet.dll separately?
No. Random DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong version, or the wrong architecture, and they often leave the damaged parent application unresolved. Use the original application’s trusted installer or recovery media.
Should I run regsvr32 maguicommonet.dll?
Usually not. regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that this ArcSoft runtime or UI library is a self-registering COM server. Registering it can produce another error without restoring the application.
Will SFC fix the missing file?
Not normally. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. Repair or reinstall the ArcSoft application for an ArcSoft DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy does the error say the DLL is missing when it is visible?
The file may be in the wrong directory, damaged, the wrong architecture, or the wrong build. A dependent file may also be missing. Reinstall the parent application rather than moving the visible DLL into a system folder.
Prevention
Keep the original ArcSoft installer or legitimate recovery media with the application. Avoid registry cleaners and DLL download sites, and check antivirus protection history before restoring quarantined files. If you remove an obsolete ArcSoft program, uninstall it fully and disable any remaining startup entry so Windows does not continue calling a file that no longer belongs to an installed application.
