Triage is Marathon’s field-medic Runner Shell: its job is to help a squad stay in the fight with deployable healing drones, reboot abilities and combat buffs. Play it as a team-support role, not simply as a shell that heals whoever is already hurt. Your priorities are to contribute in combat, keep yourself positioned to help allies, and be ready to respond when a teammate goes down.
What Triage does
Bungie describes Triage as the “Field medic” archetype. The shell’s official overview identifies three broad parts of its support kit: deployable healing drones, onboard reboot abilities and combat buffs. Together, they are intended to sustain a crew and help it recover, rather than replace the need to fight or make the shell invulnerable. Bungie’s Runner Shell overview
How to support your crew in a fight
Stay able to help
Position so you can contribute to the encounter while remaining in a condition to respond if an ally needs support. A Triage player who is isolated or incapacitated cannot provide much value through healing or reboot abilities. Avoid treating the support role as a reason to stop participating in combat.
Use healing to sustain the team
Triage’s deployable healing drones are part of its stated support identity. Use the current in-game ability descriptions to confirm how deployment and targeting work, then apply them where they can help allies continue fighting. Exact range, healing amount, duration, cooldown and targeting rules are not established by Bungie’s broad shell overview, so do not rely on a fixed rotation or assume a drone will behave a particular way without checking its current description.

Be ready to recover a downed ally
The shell overview also identifies onboard reboot abilities. Keep your position and attention flexible enough to react when a teammate is down, rather than committing every action to damage or healing in advance. The overview does not specify reboot timing, range or other detailed conditions; check the live ability text before planning around them.
Use combat buffs as part of the team role
Triage’s combat buffs round out the kit. They are a reason to participate in the fight, not a separate role from supporting the squad. Check the current in-game descriptions for each buff’s effect and conditions instead of assuming values or interactions that may have changed.

What to know about Triage balance
Bungie’s July 21, 2026 Update 1.1.5 changed Triage Cloak healing from 1.5 times Patch Kit speed to 0.8 times Patch Kit speed. That is the value stated in that dated patch, not a guarantee of the live value after later tuning. Read Update 1.1.5
Bungie’s March 17, 2026 Update 1.0.5 fixed an issue where being close to maximum heat could prevent Battery Overcharge from activating. This records a historical fix; it should not be presented as a current drawback. Read Update 1.0.5

Check the live build before choosing a rotation
Marathon is a live-service game, and Triage’s ability tuning can change. Bungie announced an October 6, 2026 progression and economy reset, refreshed rewards, quality-of-life changes and live tuning. Its October 7 roadmap says the Nightfall Refresh is live, but those announcements do not establish every current Triage mechanic or a complete recommended build.
