How to access Mario Paint on Switch
Mario Paint is included in Nintendo Switch Online’s Super NES – Nintendo Classics collection; it is not a new standalone Switch release. Nintendo announced the addition in July 2025, with Nintendo Japan specifying July 29, 2025. You need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to access the game through the collection. Nintendo says membership is sold separately, and online features are not available in every country. Nintendo of America’s announcement and Nintendo Japan’s announcement describe the release.
How to use mouse controls
Nintendo Switch
Connect a compatible USB mouse to the system. Nintendo of America says, “Connect a compatible USB mouse (sold separately) to play the game on your Nintendo Switch™ system.” Nintendo Japan cautions that it does not guarantee every USB mouse will work, so there is no specific model to rely on from Nintendo’s guidance. Nintendo of America’s announcement and Nintendo Japan’s announcement provide the compatibility details.
Nintendo Switch 2
You can use Joy-Con 2 like a mouse, or connect a USB mouse. Nintendo Japan also says a USB Type-C mouse can be used on Nintendo Switch Lite, while warning that compatibility is not guaranteed for every USB mouse. Nintendo of America and Nintendo Japan explain the input options.

Why the mouse matters in Mario Paint
Mouse support is not a minor extra: Nintendo Japan describes Mario Paint as a title dedicated to mouse operation.
