Bungie announced Marathon for March 5, 2026, and confirmed that it launched on that date. The sci-fi extraction shooter is available on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play and cross-save. The announcement also introduced a gameplay trailer, an English-language cast of 33 performers, and Standard and Deluxe preorder editions; those preorder offers were terms at the time, not confirmation that the rewards remain obtainable now.
When did Marathon release, and where can you play it?
Bungie announced the March 5, 2026 release date on January 19, then confirmed the launch in a March 4 post. The dated answer in Bungie’s FAQ that says no release date has been set is outdated. Bungie’s release-date announcement and its launch post establish the current timeline.
The launch platforms are Steam (PC), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Bungie says cross-play and cross-save are supported. Console players need an active online subscription.
What kind of game is Marathon?
Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter set on Tau Ceti IV. Players take the role of cybernetic mercenaries called Runners and can venture alone or in crews. Bungie’s game FAQ describes the premise and setting.
