Nintendo’s official notice says service was discontinued at 11:00 p.m. PT that day: Nintendo Support’s discontinuation notice.
What counted as an item in Mario Kart Tour?
The term covered three different things: objects used during a race, collectible drivers/karts/gliders, and tickets that changed progression or points. These categories served different purposes, so a race weapon is not the same kind of item as an upgrade ticket.

- Race items: Objects obtained from Item Boxes and used on the course.
- Drivers, karts, and gliders: Collectible inventory that could be upgraded and improved.
- Tickets: Utility items used to raise levels or points, access Coin Rush, add a race Item Box, or affect progression.
Nintendo’s user agreement describes acquired in-game content as “Digital Items,” licensed for use in the application and generally not transferable or exchangeable for money, goods, or services outside it: Nintendo User Agreement.
Race items: standard items and driver specials
Nintendo’s FAQ distinguishes standard race items—such as Bananas, Green Shells, and Mushrooms—from special items tied to particular drivers, giving Mario’s Fire Flower and Peach’s Heart as examples. Players received one or more items from an Item Box. The cited examples are not a complete item catalog: Nintendo’s item FAQ.
#1 Best Overall
- Hit the road with the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 and play anytime, anywhere! Race your friends or battle them in a revised battle mode on new and returning battle courses
- Play locally in up to 4-player multiplayer in 1080p while playing in TV Mode. Every track from the Wii U version, including DLC, makes a glorious return
- Plus, the Inklings appear as all-new guest characters, along with returning favorites, such as King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.
- Players can choose a new Smart Steering feature which makes driving and staying on the track easy for novice players and kids even at 200cc
What affects item appearance?
Item outcomes were not simply a fixed list applied equally in every situation. Nintendo identifies race position, elapsed time, lap, items already held, and glider skills as factors affecting the chances of receiving items.
Race items versus battle items
Battle rules could change how an item worked, so race behavior should not be assumed to apply in battles. Nintendo’s battle FAQ calls out examples including Mushroom, Giga Bob-omb, Bubble, Dash Ring, Boomerang, Bob-omb, and Coin: Nintendo’s battle FAQ. These examples illustrate mode-specific behavior; they do not establish a complete list of every item or effect.
Every ticket class named in Nintendo’s FAQ
Nintendo’s ticket FAQ describes seven functional classes. Their purposes are distinct, particularly the two kinds of points tickets: Nintendo’s ticket FAQ.
Rank #2
- Nuevos personajes: Inkling, Rey Boo, Huesitos y Bowsy
- Inclusi n de circuitos in ditos en el modo batalla
- Los pilotos cuentan con el volante inteligente, que ayuda a no salirse de la pista
- Hasta 8 pilotos en partidas de multijugador local
| Ticket | What it did |
|---|---|
| Ability ticket | Raised the ability level of a driver, kart, or glider. |
| Base-points ticket | Raised the current base points of a driver, kart, or glider. |
| Points-cap ticket | Raised the maximum base-points limit for a driver, kart, or glider. |
| Coin Rush ticket | Started Coin Rush without spending rubies. |
| Item ticket | Provided an additional Item Box to use during a race. |
| Star ticket | Could be exchanged for a Grand Star. |
| Quick ticket | Shortened cup construction by one day and could refresh certain shop selections within documented daily limits. |
Base points and points caps are not the same
A base-points ticket increased the item’s current base-points value. A points-cap ticket increased the ceiling instead; raising that ceiling did not itself award the additional points. Nintendo’s explanation of the distinction is here: Nintendo’s points-ticket FAQ.

Availability changed over time
Race-item odds depended on race conditions, while drivers, karts, gliders, and gifts also changed with tours and limited-time offerings. For example, Nintendo’s March 10, 2021 Mario Tour announcement listed limited-time spotlights Baby Mario, the Mushmellow kart, and the Piston Glider. It also described Gold Pass gifts including Mario, Toad (Pit Crew), the Super 1 kart, the Streamliner kart, and the 8-Bit Jumping Mario glider: Nintendo’s Mario Tour announcement. Those are examples from that tour, not items available now or a complete historical catalog.
Nintendo’s reviewed official material establishes the named ticket functions and examples of race items, but it does not provide one exhaustive list of every standard weapon, driver special, historical variant, or ticket subtype. Accordingly, “every” in this guide means the functional ticket classes Nintendo names and the item categories and examples it documents—not a complete catalog of every item ever offered.
