The 24-minute Tormented Souls 2 gameplay showcase was announced on August 21, 2024, as an extended preview of the sequel. The game has since launched: it was released on October 23, 2025. The showcase follows returning protagonist Caroline Walker as she sets out to rescue her sister, six months after the events of the first game.

What the 24-minute showcase covers

Dual Effect and PQube presented the video as an extended gameplay preview, with the announcement promising a “chilling preview” of the sequel. Its synopsis establishes the central premise: Caroline Walker returns to rescue her sister after their previous ordeal. The announcement described the game as planned for 2025; that was the schedule at the time, not its current release status. Read the August 21, 2024 showcase announcement.

Where the sequel takes Caroline

In the released game, Caroline travels with her sister Anna to Villa Hess, a remote town in southern Chile. The sisters encounter the hidden truth behind a clinic and a new nightmare. Caroline can enter an “Other side,” where she replays memories stored on video tapes. Actions in those locations affect the present timeline and help reveal the town’s history. These details come from the developers’ and publisher’s descriptions of the game.

How its survival-horror systems work

The official listing describes a single-player survival-horror game built around exploration, puzzles, and dangerous encounters. Its features point to a classic style, while also offering an assisted mode for players who want a less demanding experience.

Dark Souls: The Board Game – The Sunless City Core Set - A Board Game by Steamforged Games
  • Take on the role of the Herald, Pyromancer, or Warrior as you navigate the haunted ruins of The Sunless City. Your ultimate challenge?
  • A brutal battle against the formidable Dragon Slayer Ornstein and the fearsome Executioner Smough.
  • 1-3 players
  • 100 minutes + play time
  • Ages: 14+
Feature What the official listing says
Camera and controls Fixed-camera presentation and tank controls.
Saving Limited saves.
Puzzles and items Intricate puzzles and item combinations.
Combat Makeshift weapons and lethal enemies.
Difficulty option An assisted mode is available alongside the classic survival-horror approach.

Those features define the main trade-off for players: the fixed camera, tank controls, and limited saves support a more traditional survival-horror structure, while assisted mode gives players an alternative. The listing does not specify the exact changes made by that mode, so it should not be assumed to alter every one of those systems.

Enemies named in the official release announcement

The October 2025 release announcement singled out two threats. The Iron Maiden is described as a masked, armored figure wielding a large crucifix. The Harvester is described as a creature combining twisted metal and scorched flesh, armed with a buzzsaw. Those are the publisher and developer’s descriptions; they are not independent assessments of the enemies or proof of what appears in the 2024 showcase footage.

Release status and demo context

Tormented Souls 2 launched on October 23, 2025, the date given in both the official launch announcement and the Steam listing. The game is listed as a digital single-player PC release, developed by Dual Effect and published by PQube. See the Steam listing.

A separate official announcement in June 2025 said a Steam demo was available, covering the first 60 minutes in the passageways of a convent as the player searched for an ancient tome. That announcement establishes the demo’s availability at that time; it does not establish that the demo is still available now. Check the current Steam page for its status.
