Marvel Cosmic Invasion has 15 heroes in its base-game roster, and its Cosmic Swap system lets you choose two for a level and switch between them instantly. You can use the pair to build combos and unleash special attacks; official descriptions explain the mechanic’s intent but do not rank the best pairings.
How Cosmic Swap works
At the start of a level, choose two heroes. During a fight, switch instantly between them. The game presents this tag-team mechanic as a way to combine character abilities, create unique combos and use powerful special attacks.

The official descriptions do not specify the swap button, a cooldown, or exactly how an inactive hero participates in an attack. They also do not publish a tested ranking of hero pairings. Treat Cosmic Swap as a flexible way to alternate between two selected fighters, rather than assuming undocumented assist behavior or a universally strongest team.

Nintendo and PlayStation list the same 15 playable heroes in the base game. Nintendo groups eight as Earth-born and seven as Galactic:

The roster brings together heroes from Earth and across the cosmos to face Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave. The story’s journey runs from New York City to the Negative Zone.
Which characters are DLC?
Cyclops and The Thing are listed separately as downloadable content, not among the 15 named base-game heroes. The US Nintendo and PlayStation listings show the add-on; availability and pricing can vary by storefront and region.

Dotemu’s press-kit page also lists a second add-on, The Siege of Castle Doom, naming Doctor Doom and The Invisible Woman as new playable characters and giving November 10 as its date. The displayed listing does not give a year, so that date alone does not establish whether the add-on is currently available.

Story context for the team
Dotemu describes Annihilus launching an unprecedented attack across the galaxy, prompting the heroes to unite against the Annihilation Wave. Their conflict spans New York City and the depths of the Negative Zone.

In a character reveal dated September 17, 2025, the publisher describes Black Panther as Wakanda’s leader, equipped with a vibranium-enhanced suit and sonic daggers. It describes Cosmic Ghost Rider as the Punisher transformed after making a pact to avenge Earth’s destruction at Thanos’s hands. Those descriptions establish character flavor, not detailed move sets or how either hero performs in a particular pairing.

Nintendo lists one to four players for both single-system and online play. Dotemu describes local and online multiplayer with drop-in/drop-out support. PlayStation lists one to four players and up to four online players with PS Plus; subscription requirements should not be assumed to match across platforms.
