Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a 2D arcade-style beat ’em up built around a 15-hero Marvel roster, two-character tag teams and local or online co-op. Those are strong ingredients for a superhero brawler, but the available official information does not establish how well the combat, pacing or multiplayer perform in practice. This review separates what the released game offers from what players should verify for themselves.
What kind of game is Marvel Cosmic Invasion?
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling, arcade-style beat ’em up in which Marvel heroes fight Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave. The official descriptions place the action across locations including New York City and the Negative Zone. The premise gives the roster a shared enemy and cosmic scale, while the format is focused on direct combat rather than an open-world or role-playing structure. How many characters are playable?
Dotemu identifies 15 playable heroes: Spider-Man, Wolverine, She-Hulk, Captain America, Phoenix, Black Panther, Storm, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon, Beta Ray Bill, Venom, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Nova, Phyla-Vell and Silver Surfer. The roster spans familiar street-level heroes and characters suited to a cosmic conflict. How does Cosmic Swap work?
The game’s defining mechanic is Cosmic Swap: choose two heroes for a level and switch between them instantly. The publisher presents the swap as a way to build combos and unleash special attacks, turning team composition into the central combat idea rather than simply choosing one character at a time. It may also give players a way to pair different move sets, but official feature descriptions do not prove how meaningful those differences feel or whether particular pairings dominate. When judging the roster in practice, the meaningful questions are whether characters differ in reach, mobility, crowd control, aerial options and special attacks—and whether swapping between two heroes feels useful instead of incidental. Those are play-quality questions, not specifications established by the character list.
Can you play co-op, and with how many players?
Official descriptions list both local and online co-op, including drop-in/drop-out play. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing specifies one to four players locally or online. That gives the Switch 2 version a clear maximum player count; the general feature descriptions do not verify the exact count on every platform, platform-specific online-service requirements or whether online play supports cross-play. Co-op suitability depends on more than the listed count. Connection stability, drop-in behavior in a live session and how readable fights remain with several players are practical considerations that require firsthand play rather than a feature list.

Dotemu’s current game page links to PC/Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox storefronts. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 release date as December 1, 2025. For physical copies, Dotemu announced Standard and Deluxe editions for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, with physical launch dated March 13, 2026. Edition availability and prices can differ by region and retailer, so confirm the specific listing before buying. The announced Deluxe Edition contents are the game, a special box, a SteelBook, a poster, 15 art cards and sticker sheets. Dotemu’s announcement listed these prices: Standard at $39.99 on PS5 and Switch; Switch 2 Standard in Full Cartridge format at $49.99; Deluxe at $59.99 on PS5 and Switch; and Switch 2 Deluxe in Full Cartridge format at $69.99. Dotemu currently lists the Cyclops & The Thing DLC at $3.99 and says a second update, The Siege of Castle Doom, is coming in fall. Because DLC pricing and release timing can change, check the publisher’s current game page for the latest status before treating either detail as current.
