Marvel Rivals reversed its plan to reset Competitive ranks halfway through Season 1. In a February 11, 2025, update, the development team said players would keep the rank and score they had earned by the end of the first half. To qualify for the new second-half rewards, players instead had to complete 10 Competitive matches and meet the applicable conditions by the end of the season.
What changed in Marvel Rivals Season 1?
The original plan was to reset ranks when Season 1’s second half began on February 21, 2025, at 8:00 UTC. The next day, Dev Talk Vol. 11 reversed that decision: there would be no rank reset at the half-season boundary. Players retained their first-half rank and score.
The change applied to the Season 1 transition announced in February 2025. It should not be taken as confirmation of the rank-reset rules for later seasons.

Why did the developers reverse the reset?
Dev Talk Vol. 11 said players were concerned that a rank reset every half-season created pressure and made Competitive mode less enjoyable. The team’s explanation identifies that concern as the reason for the change; the posts do not provide a poll or other statistic measuring how widely players shared it.

A February 12, 2025, report by HotHardware characterized the reversal as a response to player backlash. That is the outlet’s description, not a measured account of player opinion.
What did players need to do for the new rewards?
Keeping a rank did not automatically qualify a player for the new rewards. Under the revised plan, players had to finish 10 Competitive matches and meet the relevant reward conditions before Season 1 ended. The match requirement was a qualification condition, not a replacement rank reset.

Does this apply to current Marvel Rivals seasons?
No later-season rule follows automatically from the Season 1 decision. The reversal was announced for the second half of Season 1 in February 2025. Official Season 10 notes list that season as running from September 11, 2026, at 09:00 UTC, through October 9, 2026, at 09:00 UTC, but those notes do not establish whether the Season 1 rank policy carried forward. Check the official announcement for the specific season when looking up its Competitive rules.
