Marvel Rivals high ping is not always an internet-speed problem. The cause may be unstable Wi-Fi, household congestion, an ISP routing problem, a bad region selection, a proxy or VPN conflict, frame-rate stutter, or an issue affecting a particular game server. The fastest approach is to test each network segment in order instead of immediately buying a router or VPN.
Identify the symptom first
Ping or latency is the round-trip time for data to travel between your device and the game server, measured in milliseconds. Higher latency makes inputs feel delayed.

Jitter is variation in latency. A connection with a moderate average ping can still feel terrible if the delay repeatedly jumps.

Packet loss occurs when data fails to reach the destination or return. It can cause freezing, teleporting, delayed actions, missing hit registration, rubber-banding, and disconnects.

FPS or frame-time stutter is different. Lowering graphics settings may improve rendering performance, but it cannot repair packet loss or an unstable route. Marvel Rivals also has a PC performance-optimization feature under Settings → Other; the official March 2026 announcement describes it as a CPU/rendering optimization, not a network fix. Do not judge a connection by one ping number. Distance to the selected region matters, and stable latency with little or no loss is usually preferable to a lower but erratic reading.
Quick fixes to try before deeper testing
- Exit Marvel Rivals completely and relaunch it.
- Restart the PC or console.
- Reboot the modem and router.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, game updates, streams, and uploads on the network.
- If using Wi-Fi, move closer to the router.
- Test with Ethernet if possible.
- If wired networking is unavailable, try a less congested 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi network where supported.
- Compare the available Marvel Rivals regions and select one with stable latency and minimal loss.
- Temporarily disable VPNs, proxies, and third-party game accelerators.
- Test more than one match and, if possible, more than one region.
Changing DNS is not a reliable packet-loss fix. It can affect name resolution or initial connection behavior, but normally does not repair loss on an established game route.
Use Marvel Rivals’ Network Analysis Tool
For serious login, matchmaking, or latency problems, start with NetEase’s own diagnostic tool. The official guide uses CapturePro.exe from the Marvel Rivals installation directory.
- Open the Marvel Rivals installation directory.
- Locate and launch
CapturePro.exe. - If you cannot log in or enter a match, run Network Adaptability Test.
- For severe in-game delay, run Network Delay Test.
- Select the regions or nodes you normally use, or the geographically closest ones.
- Allow the test to run for approximately 20 seconds.
- If the problem is intermittent, you can run the test during gameplay and stop it when the latency appears.
- Send the resulting
tr_results_xxxxxxxx_xxxxxx.zipfile to official Marvel Rivals support through Discord.
Follow the official Network Analysis Tool guide for the current files and support procedure.
A clean result does not prove that every match will be clean. The problem may be intermittent, match-specific, route-specific, or occur after the test ends. Compare the tool’s result with what happens in the actual match.
Check whether your router or Wi-Fi is dropping packets
PC players can compare their local router with a public endpoint using two Command Prompt windows.

ipconfigRecord the Default Gateway, commonly an address such as 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
2. Test the router
ping -t YOUR_DEFAULT_GATEWAYLeave it running while Marvel Rivals is lagging. Press Ctrl+C to stop it.

- Loss or large spikes to the gateway: suspect Wi-Fi interference, a damaged Ethernet cable, the network adapter, router overload, or another local-network problem.
- A stable gateway: local stability is likely, but this does not rule out the ISP or game-server route.
Repeat the test over Ethernet if possible. If the gateway is unstable on Wi-Fi but stable over Ethernet, the wireless connection or its placement is the leading suspect.
Check the ISP route
Test a public endpoint
ping -t 1.1.1.1Alternatively:
ping -t 8.8.8.8- Stable gateway, unstable public endpoint: likely WAN congestion, ISP trouble, or routing instability.
- Stable gateway and public endpoint while Marvel Rivals lags: investigate the selected region, the route to the game service, or a game-side problem.
Trace a route
tracert 1.1.1.1Use a game-specific hostname only when you can identify the correct service endpoint. Do not trace guessed IP addresses or publish private diagnostic information publicly.

Check Windows proxy settings
NetEase says a computer may browse normally but fail to log in when proxy settings are active. Previous use of a proxy, VPN, or game accelerator can also leave configuration that interferes with the client.
- Search Windows for Proxy settings.
- Open the system proxy settings.
- Turn off Use a proxy server unless you deliberately need one.
- Restart Marvel Rivals.
To check the WinHTTP configuration, open Command Prompt as administrator:

For persistent PC problems, create the client report before contacting support:
- Open Steam.
- Right-click Marvel Rivals in your Library.
- Select Manage → Browse Local Files.
- Locate
client_diagnose.exe. - Close the Marvel Rivals client.
- Launch the diagnostic tool.
- Click Analyze and wait for it to finish.
- Send the generated
diagnose_yyyy_mm_dd_xx_xx_xx.zipfile through official Marvel Rivals support on Discord.
The steps and filename pattern come from the official Client Diagnostic Tool guide. Avoid uploading diagnostic archives publicly because they may contain system or network information.
Choose a stable Marvel Rivals region
The official FAQ says players can choose the server with the lowest latency in matchmaking. In practice, compare all available regions rather than trusting one reading. A region with slightly higher ping but no packet loss may play better than a nominally faster region with jitter or loss.
- Compare the available regions.
- Prefer consistent latency and minimal loss.
- Avoid a region that repeatedly produces instability, even if its occasional ping is lowest.
- Record the selected region and time when reporting the issue.

Community reports have described region-specific, update-specific, and game-specific latency or packet-loss symptoms. These reports are anecdotal evidence of observed failure modes, not confirmation of a current global outage. Examples include post-update reports and intermittent packet-loss reports.
Platform-specific troubleshooting
PC
- Use Ethernet for diagnosis whenever possible.
- Disable proxy, VPN, accelerator, and overlay software before testing.
- Check that security software is not filtering the game.
- Pause background downloads and launchers.
- Use
CapturePro.exeandclient_diagnose.exe. - Try a phone hotspot temporarily to compare routes, not as a permanent recommendation.
PlayStation and Xbox
- Fully restart the console instead of relying only on rest mode or standby.
- Test Ethernet if available.
- Reboot the router and stop household downloads or streaming.
- Compare the home connection with a hotspot only as a diagnostic experiment.
- Use the game’s network indicators and region choices.
- Record platform, region, mode, timestamps, screenshots or clips, and whether another network changed the result.
PC commands and the Windows diagnostic executables do not apply to consoles.
Should you use a VPN or gaming route optimizer?
Only consider routing software after the gateway and home-network tests are stable. A route optimizer may help when your ISP has poor peering with a particular Marvel Rivals region. It cannot fix Wi-Fi interference, a faulty cable, router overload, household upload saturation, or a server-side incident.
It may also increase ping, add packet loss, change the apparent region, or interfere with login. NetEase specifically lists proxies, VPNs, and game accelerators as possible contributors to login failures.
If you test one, use the same game region, time window, mode, and several matches with and without it. Treat the result as evidence about routing, not a guarantee.

A Netduma router or ordinary router/mesh upgrade is more relevant when gateway tests show Wi-Fi coverage or household congestion problems. Look for good placement, wired backhaul where possible, and QoS or Smart Queue Management. Hardware cannot repair a distant server or poor ISP peering.

Contact the ISP when the gateway test shows loss or severe spikes, multiple devices are affected, Ethernet and Wi-Fi are both unstable, other games and services also fail, modem logs show errors, or upload saturation remains after background traffic is stopped.
Give the ISP:
- Exact dates and times, including your time zone.
- Whether wired and wireless devices are affected.
- Gateway and public-endpoint ping results.
- The affected Marvel Rivals region.
- Whether a hotspot or alternate connection works.
- Your modem/router model and firmware version.
Do not let a speed test close the case by itself. High download speed does not guarantee low latency, low jitter, or zero packet loss.

When the problem is probably on Marvel Rivals’ side
Stop replacing local equipment when your gateway is stable, Ethernet does not help, other services work, only Marvel Rivals or one region is affected, and the official test shows a node-specific problem. Multiple reports at the same time strengthen the case, but do not prove the root cause.
At that point, document the evidence, try a different available region, and report it to NetEase rather than repeatedly resetting Windows or buying networking hardware. A clean diagnostic result also does not rule out an intermittent or match-specific fault.

- ISP and connection type.
- Wired or wireless connection.
- Region/node selected.
- Match mode and approximate match time.
- Date, time, and time zone.
- Screenshots or clips showing the symptom.
- Ping and packet-loss comparisons.
