Blade is a Duelist who switches between a close-range sword and a shrapnel-firing shotgun. Play him by choosing your engagement distance before committing, using Scarlet Shroud to time a defensive opening, and activating Bloodline Awakening when you can keep landing attacks. His Ultimate, Thousand-Fold Slash, requires a charge and sends him forward while leaving a damaging slash zone.
Blade’s role and basic game plan
Blade is a Duelist in Marvel Rivals, the free-to-play 6v6 team shooter. The official hero page lists him at 350 health and 6 m/s movement speed. His kit is built around switching between a sword and shotgun, then using abilities to create or exploit a brief opening rather than staying at one distance throughout a fight. Marvel Rivals’ official Blade page provides the detailed kit description.
Start by asking whether you can safely get within sword range. If not, use the shotgun to pressure from farther away; if the enemy is reachable and you have a viable window to stay engaged, the sword and Blade’s attack-enhancing abilities become relevant. His close-range tools can expose him to danger, so the goal is to choose the moment rather than dash into a fight on cooldown.
Blade’s abilities
Ancestral Sword
The Ancestral Sword delivers melee slashes. The official hero page lists 26 damage per slash and two strikes per second. Its listed range is 5 m; the March 17, 2026 balance post confirms that this was increased from 4.5 m. Use it when you are close enough to connect, not as a substitute for ranged pressure. The March 2026 balance post also updates other Blade values.

Hunter’s Shotgun
The shotgun fires a projectile that breaks into shrapnel after traveling a distance. The older hero-page listing gives 45 damage for the initial projectile and 11 shrapnel pieces worth 8 damage each, but detailed damage values may change with balance updates. The March 17, 2026 post increased projectile speed from 150 m/s to 180 m/s. Because the shot spreads into shrapnel, do not treat it as a long-range weapon: use it when the sword’s melee distance is not practical, and account for damage falling off with distance.
Scarlet Shroud
Scarlet Shroud is a timed parry. Blade becomes briefly Unstoppable, reduces incoming damage from the front, and reduces Daywalker Dash’s cooldown. The hero page lists 80% damage reduction and a 1-second Unstoppable duration; the June 9, 2026 balance post raised that duration from 0.4 to 1 second. Its frontal mitigation is directional, so face the threat you are trying to counter rather than assuming the ability protects you from every side. See the June 2026 balance post.

Bloodline Awakening
Bloodline Awakening increases slash speed during continuous attacks and can trigger Whirlwind Slash. While the state is active, attacks provide lifesteal and movement speed, but Blade receives reduced healing from other sources. The March 17, 2026 balance post increased lifesteal from 65% to 70% and added conversion of excess lifesteal into bonus health, capped at 75. That makes the ability most useful when you have a realistic opportunity to keep hitting opponents; activating it without access to targets risks paying its healing trade-off without gaining much from the attack benefits.
Daywalker Dash
Daywalker Dash sends Blade forward up to 15 m and has a different follow-up effect depending on his weapon. With the shotgun, hits slow enemies by 40% for 1.5 seconds. With the sword, follow-up hits apply healing reduction: the hero page lists 8% per strike, up to four strikes (32% total) for 4 seconds. Choose based on the effect you need and whether the dash puts you in a position to follow up safely; neither version is universally better.

What does Blade’s Ultimate do?
Thousand-Fold Slash
Thousand-Fold Slash is a charged forward dash that leaves a slashing zone along its path. The zone automatically strikes enemies and lasts 2 seconds, according to the official hero page. That page lists a maximum 24 m dash after a full charge and 100 damage on a direct hit. The March 17, 2026 balance post increased the Ultimate’s healing reduction from 20% to 40%. The other listed Ultimate figures have not been independently rechecked against a later full hero-kit listing, so treat them as the hero page’s published values rather than a newly confirmed post-update stat block.
Charging slows Blade, so judge the route and timing before starting. Aim to send the dash through a useful path where the slashing zone can affect opponents; do not assume the move is unavoidable or guarantees eliminations. Its healing reduction can matter even when the dash does not finish a target, but landing the attack still depends on positioning and enemy response.

Practical tips for playing Blade
Choose your range before you commit
Use the shotgun when closing to melee distance is not yet safe or realistic. Move into sword range when enemy positioning and your team’s situation give you a plausible window to stay close. The sword’s listed range is 5 m, while the shotgun’s projectile and shrapnel lose effectiveness with distance; neither weapon makes every range equally favorable.
Time Scarlet Shroud against a frontal threat
Use the parry when you can anticipate damage coming from in front of you. Its reduction is frontal, and its brief Unstoppable period is a short window—not lasting protection. Since it also reduces Daywalker Dash’s cooldown, a successful timing can help you resume pressure sooner.

Make the dash’s weapon-dependent effect deliberate
Before using Daywalker Dash, decide whether slowing a target with the shotgun or applying healing reduction with sword follow-up better suits the moment. Account for where the dash leaves you and whether you can actually land the relevant hits.
Save Bloodline Awakening for an attack window
Activate it when you can keep connecting attacks and draw value from faster slashes, movement speed, and lifesteal. The reduced healing received makes an empty activation especially costly if you cannot reach opponents.
Charge the Ultimate with a route in mind
Because Blade slows while charging and the ability creates a zone along his dash path, look for a route that can cross an occupied area without leaving him exposed for no payoff. Think about where the charge begins, where the dash goes, and where Blade will end up.
Captain America Team-Up and Bloodline Awakening stacks
The September 8, 2026 balance post, published for the September 11 update, says selecting the Captain America Team-Up increases Blade’s maximum Bloodline Awakening stacks. The post does not establish that this Team-Up is always available, so check the in-game Team-Up selection and current availability before building a match plan around the extra capacity.
