Play Winter Soldier as a mid-range Duelist who pressures enemies with Roterstern, then commits with his bionic-arm abilities when there is a clear follow-up. His three-round weapon reloads through ability use, so weaving those abilities into your attacks helps keep pressure up. Use Bionic Hook and Trooper’s Fist deliberately: both put you in position to act, but neither guarantees a safe finish.
Winter Soldier’s role and basic game plan
Marvel’s official Winter Soldier profile lists Bucky as a Duelist with 275 health and a movement speed of 6 m/s. His kit combines a limited-ammunition projectile weapon, piercing control, and close-range displacement. That makes him useful both when a clear sightline lets him apply pressure and when an opening lets him pull or seize a target for a teammate to punish.
Start by looking for a useful firing angle and aligned targets. Spend a bionic-arm ability between Roterstern shots when doing so makes tactical sense: Ceaseless Charge reloads the weapon and grants bonus health when the arm is in action. Then decide whether the enemy position supports a close-range commitment or whether it is safer to keep pressuring from range. The ability-weaving sequence is a practical inference from the listed mechanics, not a guaranteed combo.
How to use each ability
Roterstern: pressure with three rounds
Roterstern fires a straight-line projectile that can critically hit and creates a cone-shaped field when it impacts. The projectile and field deal 80 and 45 damage respectively, but an enemy hit by the projectile does not also take damage from the field; the field itself cannot critically hit. With only three rounds, avoid treating the weapon as an unlimited stream of fire. Use the reload from bionic-arm actions to sustain pressure rather than waiting until you are empty to think about your next move.

Bionic Hook: pull only when you can capitalize
Bionic Hook reels in the first enemy it hits and enemies behind them. Its listed cooldown is 15 seconds, so look for a target whose displacement can create immediate value—such as one exposed to your team or within reach of a ready follow-up. Hooking an isolated enemy without support can spend the ability without producing a safe elimination. That follow-up guidance is tactical interpretation of the hook’s pull and cooldown, not a prescribed developer combo.
Trooper’s Fist: commit with a safe landing in mind
Trooper’s Fist dashes forward, seizes enemies along its path, and launches them at the end. Its maximum distance is 9 metres and its cooldown is 10 seconds. An April 2026 balance update reduced its cooldown from 12 to 10 seconds and removed its Grounded effect; it does not ground enemies. Use the dash to engage or follow up only when the landing position leaves room to survive the commitment.

Tainted Voltage: pierce a line or disrupt a flyer
Tainted Voltage charges and launches an electric punch that pierces enemies, deals 55 damage, and slows them. It can also knock down flying heroes. The September 2026 balance update changed the slow from 35% to 25% and the single-charge energizing time from five to six seconds; the current official profile lists a 25% slow. Look for a line through multiple enemies or use it to interrupt a flyer, while accounting for the time needed to charge it.
Ceaseless Charge: turn arm actions into ammunition and health
Ceaseless Charge automatically reloads Roterstern while the bionic arm is in action and grants bonus health. The official profile lists 40 bonus health for Bionic Hook and Tainted Voltage, and 50 for Trooper’s Fist and Kraken Impact. These effects make ability use part of your resource cycle as well as your damage and control plan; do not force a risky engagement merely to trigger them.

Kraken Impact: make the mark count
Kraken Impact has Bucky leap, dash, and slam, damaging enemies within five metres and marking them for five seconds. It deals 70 damage and culls marked enemies below 20% health. After a successful cull, the next Kraken Impact can be used after an eight-second interval; the listed energy cost is 3100. An April 2026 update raised the culling threshold from 15% to 20% and lowered its base damage from 80 to 70. Look for a chance to hit several enemies or to mark a low-health target you can finish before the mark expires. The targeting advice follows from its area and culling mechanics; it is not a guaranteed reset or team wipe.
Choose engagements by the opening, not a fixed combo

Ultimate and team-up timing
Kraken Impact is more valuable when its mark can be converted into a cull or when its five-metre slam can affect multiple enemies. Check enemy health and nearby threats before committing; the mark lasts five seconds, so coordinate with teammates who can damage marked targets. A successful cull enables another Kraken Impact after the listed eight-second interval, but the ultimate still requires its conditions to be met.
The official hero page also lists Stellar Impact with Captain America: Winter Soldier leaps to an ally, damages nearby enemies, and grants bonus health, while the paired interaction produces a damaging, slowing shockwave. Team-up configurations can change by season, so confirm that the interaction is available in the live client rather than assuming it is active in every season. The September 2026 balance post also notes a slight movement-speed increase for Captain America after Stars Aligned when teamed with Winter Soldier.

What changed in the latest located balance updates
The latest official balance post located before October 8, 2026 is dated September 8, 2026. It sets Tainted Voltage’s slow at 25% and its single-charge energizing time at six seconds. The April 14, 2026 balance post removed Trooper’s Fist’s Grounded effect, reduced its cooldown to 10 seconds, and adjusted Kraken Impact to 70 damage with a 20% culling threshold. Use the live hero page and client for current values if a later update changes the kit.
