Role Queue would let players select a role before matchmaking; the suggested structure often discussed with it is 2-2-2. The post’s central complaint is that, without role selection, players can feel caught between playing a preferred role and choosing a role the team lacks.

Why some players want it—and why others do not
The case for a role choice
Supporters say choosing a role in advance could reduce the friction of team selection: players would be less likely to feel they must give up their preferred role to cover a gap. The case for keeping composition flexible

The developer rationale reported in 2025
In an August 22, 2025 GamesRadar+ report, Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong defended players’ freedom to build varied compositions and raised queue-time and skill-balance concerns. The report quoted him: “Second, adding role-based matchmaking would significantly increase queue times while still failing to fully eliminate skill discrepancies between matches.” This is a dated explanation of the tradeoffs, not a current promise about what the developers will or will not add. Official balance commentary offers context for that emphasis on variety. In a March 12, 2025 post, NetEase discussed multiple competitive compositions, including 2-2-2 and single-Vanguard lineups, and described different compositions as having strategic appeal. Has Role Queue been announced?
The official Season 10 patch notes, published September 11, 2026, cover competitive and esports updates but do not announce Role Queue. That means the feature is not announced in those notes; it does not establish the developers’ complete plans or rule out a future change. Read the Season 10 patch notes.
The game has made other competitive-system changes over time. For example, official Season 5 notes introduced ten placement matches from that season onward and described predicted ranks and placement matchmaking. What the debate can—and cannot—tell players
The thread shows that Role Queue is a live community proposal, with arguments about role choice, composition freedom, queues, and balance.
