To improve in Marvel Rivals, focus on repeatable team habits rather than chasing a supposedly best hero: understand your role, learn a small hero pool, play the objective, use cover, and fight alongside your team. The game is a team-based PvP shooter with Marvel heroes and villains, destructible maps, and Team-Up abilities; a gameplay guide describes its standard matches as 6v6. Hero kits, Team-Ups, maps, playlists, balance, and competitive rules can change, so check the current client for live details.
Choose a role your team needs—and that you can play
Marvel Rivals groups heroes into three roles. Each offers a different way to help the team:
- Vanguard: absorb pressure and claim space so teammates can move or attack.
- Duelist: apply damage pressure and look for eliminations without giving opponents an easy chance to collapse on you.
- Strategist: sustain or enable teammates while keeping useful sightlines and avoiding exposed positions.
Think about what your lineup needs, but weigh that against your own comfort with the hero. A role choice only helps if you can use its abilities and positioning effectively.
Learn a small hero pool before expanding it
Start with one comfortable main and learn a fallback. That gives you room to adjust when the team needs a different role without forcing you to relearn controls, movement, cooldowns, and matchups every game. You do not need to master the whole roster to make useful decisions.

Practice abilities, movement, and Team-Ups
Use the Practice Range to get familiar with a hero before relying on them in a match. Try their movement, cooldowns, aim, ultimate range, and any Team-Up interactions available in the current client. If a hero’s movement or combos still feel unfamiliar, Practice vs. AI offers another place to rehearse.
The official hero page provides ability information, and the official site links to PC and console platforms. Check the client for the current details of a kit or Team-Up, since those can change.
Make the objective your reason to fight
An elimination is useful when it helps your team secure or contest the objective. Avoid drifting into fights that leave the objective unattended or chasing opponents so far that your team cannot act on the result. The exact win condition depends on the mode; check the current playlist and its in-game rules rather than assuming every mode works the same way.

Use cover and position according to your role
Vanguards: take space your team can use
Move forward when teammates can follow or benefit from the space you create. Pressuring ahead alone can leave your backline exposed and make your position difficult to support.

Duelists: attack from angles you can leave
Look for safe angles that let you apply pressure, then return before opponents can surround you. An aggressive position is only useful if you can survive long enough for the pressure to matter.
Strategists: preserve useful sightlines
Stay where you can support teammates, but move when your position becomes exposed. A sightline that lets you contribute is valuable only while it remains safe enough to use.
Time pushes and ultimates with your team
Try to act when several teammates can engage together instead of entering the opposing team’s sightlines one at a time. Ping important threats early when it can help teammates respond.
Use an ultimate to influence a meaningful fight, ideally when teammates can follow through. Avoid spending it after a fight is already lost or when your team cannot act on it. Coordination improves the chance that the ability matters; it does not guarantee a win.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse Team-Ups without forcing a weak pick
Team-Ups can provide active or passive effects, but their pairings change. Check current combinations in the client, and treat them as a bonus rather than a command to pick a hero you cannot play well. A Team-Up is not automatically worth weakening the rest of your lineup.

Check the live client before following ranked advice
Placement and ban rules, the map pool, rewards, and balance state may change between seasons. Confirm the current competitive rules in the game before planning around a particular map or ranked strategy. A September 2026 report on Season 10 plans illustrates that the game’s content cadence continues; creative designer Guangyun Chen said, “We want to reassure the community that a single-hero season isn’t the new normal.” That comment concerns content cadence, not a gameplay recommendation.
PC stuttering: use the official support steps
The official FAQ, published with the game’s 2024 release, advises PC players who experience stuttering despite meeting system requirements to update their graphics-card driver and set MarvelRivals to high-performance mode in Windows graphics settings. Because that advice dates from 2024, check the current support guidance if the problem persists.
