Capcom has publicly expressed interest in making another Marvel vs. Capcom, but it has not confirmed that a new game is approved or in development. In a September 2024 interview, producer Shuhei Matsumoto said his team wanted another installment and stressed that a project like this could not happen without Marvel. For now, fans can revisit the series through MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, a seven-game collection—not a sequel.

Is Capcom making a new Marvel vs. Capcom?

There is no confirmed new installment in the statements covered here. Matsumoto’s September 2024 comments describe his team’s desire to make another game, not a greenlight, production announcement, release window, or promise.

Asked about a new entry, Matsumoto told ComicBook.com: “At least our team and I have the desire to release one.” He also said fan support mattered and that the project “can’t be realized by Capcom alone.” His remarks point to two ingredients he considers important—continued fan enthusiasm and Marvel’s participation—but do not establish a sales target or say that collection sales will determine whether a sequel happens.

That need for collaboration is not just a hypothetical concern. Matsumoto said Capcom worked with Marvel to bring the older games to current platforms, describing the two sides’ feelings about the collection as mutual. That cooperation applies to the collection; it is not evidence of an agreement to develop a new game. Capcom has previously described Marvel’s input on Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, including gameplay, interface, cinematics, and character presentation, but that is historical context rather than a template for any future partnership.

Which platforms have the collection?

Capcom lists digital versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam, and Xbox One, plus physical editions for Switch and PS4. Availability and stock can vary, so check the platform store or retailer for the current listing.

Platform details differ. Capcom’s support FAQ says Switch supports 1080p in TV mode and 720p in handheld mode; PS4 supports 1080p; and Steam allows resolution adjustments, depending on graphics hardware. Online matchmaking is limited to players on the same platform, so the collection does not offer cross-platform online matches. The FAQ also notes Switch local multiplayer support, PS4 share and trophy functions, and mouse-and-keyboard support on Steam.

Does buying the collection help bring back the series?

Matsumoto said fan support for the series was powerful, but he did not say that buying the collection guarantees or directly triggers a sequel. There is no published sales threshold, player-count target, or approval milestone in his comments. The collection is a way to play the classics on current platforms and show interest; it should not be mistaken for a confirmed step in a new game’s development.
