Marvel vs. Capcom fans are sharing dream rosters for a hypothetical MVC4, but these lineups are community wish lists—not an official game announcement or a confirmed roster. The discussions show how fans approach the challenge: choosing a roster size, balancing returning favorites with newcomers, and deciding whether to include guest characters or DLC picks.
What fans mean by an MVC4 dream roster
“MVC4” is being used here as a fan concept, not a confirmed upcoming game. That distinction matters because older fan discussions also differ over whether Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite should count as the series’ fourth entry; the label has not been used consistently by fans. A 2018 GameFAQs discussion illustrates that terminology debate, rather than settling it.

The current conversations are invitations to imagine a lineup. A July 15, 2024 Reddit thread asks for a “dream mvc4 roster” and invites DLC suggestions, while another Reddit community project set its own eligibility rules. These are individual and project-specific ideas, not evidence of a shared fan consensus.
How large should a hypothetical MVC4 roster be?
One Reddit post, “Building MVC4 Post 1; Roster size?” from April 24, 2025, proposes 30 Marvel characters and 30 Capcom characters in the base roster. That 60-character target is one person’s design proposal, not a poll or a reported preference among fans. The post also recognizes the trade-off: a large lineup still cannot include every favorite, so the roster would need to balance familiar characters with newcomers who could represent newer Marvel and Capcom releases.

When comparing proposals, check whether a stated total means launch characters alone or combines the base roster with hypothetical DLC. A list of 60 base characters and a smaller launch roster with later additions are different plans, even if their eventual totals match.
What makes a roster proposal convincing?
Returning favorites and newcomers
A useful list makes room for recognizable series characters while explaining why new representatives belong. A newcomer can broaden the lineup’s connection to more recent Marvel or Capcom releases; a returning character can preserve the crossover identity fans expect. Simply naming favorites does not explain how those choices fit together.

Marvel and Capcom representation
Some proposals may aim for equal representation, as the 30/30 idea does. Others may have a different organizing principle. State the intended balance instead of treating an even split as a universal rule. One community roster thread restricted picks to Marvel and Capcom characters, but that was a rule for that project—not a standard all fan rosters follow.
Eligibility and guests
Decide whether guest characters are eligible before judging a list. The “Community MVC4 roster: Day 1” Reddit thread excluded guests and limited picks to Marvel and Capcom. That boundary helps define the project’s scope; it does not establish how an official game would handle guests.

Rationale and playstyle variety
For each pick, ask what the character contributes beyond name recognition: a distinct fighting style, a different kind of matchup, or a meaningful place in the Marvel–Capcom mix. The discussions raise roster composition as a design challenge, but they do not establish a validated method for measuring balance. Treat claims about a lineup’s competitive quality as arguments, not proven results.

DLC suggestions are another part of the wish-list exercise, not confirmation of a release plan. Keep them separate from the proposed base roster so readers can tell which characters a fan imagines at launch and which they would add later. A total that combines both should be labeled as a base-plus-DLC count, rather than presented as the launch lineup.
