Its best moments are in motion: web-swinging and the new Web Wings make travel feel quick, expressive and thrilling. The catch is that the sequel’s story beats, combat and open-world activities don’t always match that high. It builds confidently on the series rather than reinventing it, and the version you choose matters: critics have praised the original PS5 release more warmly than the PC version reviewed by PC Gamer.
What makes Spider-Man 2 worth playing?
The pleasure is immediate and physical. You can swing between buildings, launch into a glide with Web Wings, and keep moving across a city that now reaches Brooklyn and Queens as well as Manhattan. The extra travel options give you more ways to maintain momentum, and the expanded map makes simply getting somewhere feel like part of the fun.

That traversal is the sequel’s strongest argument. The official PlayStation feature page also highlights quick switching between its two Spider-Men, symbiote powers and the arrival of villains including Venom, Kraven the Hunter and the Lizard. Those additions broaden the scale and spectacle, but the game’s most consistent pleasure is still moving through the city.
How do Peter and Miles work in the campaign?
This is a single-player game, not co-op: you play both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, switching between them during the campaign. Each has distinct abilities and story material, so the two-protagonist setup shapes both the action and the narrative rather than merely offering alternate costumes.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
New players can follow the story without having played the earlier Insomniac games. PlayStation recommends those games for fuller context, though; returning players will bring more history to Peter and Miles’ relationships and the ongoing story.
Does the story and combat stay as strong as the traversal?
Not consistently. Push Square praised the expanded map, set-pieces, boss fights and changes to Peter’s symbiote combat, while finding some plot beats unevenly paced and noting that combat can eventually feel repetitive. Game Informer, by contrast, highlighted the story’s hopeful themes and character work, but found some quieter, non-powered sequences less successful as gameplay. Those are different critical judgments, but together they point to the sequel’s uneven balance: its spectacle and character moments can land strongly, while stretches between them may feel familiar or slower.

The same tension applies to the open world. A larger map creates more room to explore, but extra space alone does not guarantee that every activity feels fresh. If you mainly want a new traversal playground and cinematic action, the sequel has a compelling case. If you need every fight and side activity to feel novel, its familiar series structure may wear thin.

Keep the platforms distinct when considering technical performance. PC Gamer described the PC release it reviewed as shaky, while regarding the 2023 PS5 version as a technical showcase for its time. That is one review’s assessment of the PC version, not a guarantee about every computer configuration or a claim that performance has remained unchanged after updates. If smooth performance is your deciding factor, check recent reports for your particular PC before buying.

Who should play it?

- Set expectations for a sequel: the map and abilities expand the formula, but the game does not depart radically from the earlier entries.
- Choose your platform carefully: the PS5 release is the original version; PC performance deserves a separate, configuration-specific check.
- Consider the earlier games for context: they are not required to understand the campaign, but they add background to Peter and Miles’ stories.
