Game Freak confirmed that an unauthorized server intrusion in August 2024 exposed employees’ personal information. It did not confirm the separate claims that leaked files revealed Generation 10 plans, game source code, or discarded ideas for Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Those details remain allegations attributed to leak reporting, not verified company announcements.

What Game Freak confirmed about the 2024 breach

In a notice dated October 10, 2024, Game Freak said a third party had accessed one of its servers in August and that personal information belonging to employees and others had been leaked. The notice listed names and company email addresses and said 2,606 items were involved. Game Freak also said it was contacting affected people, had rebuilt and inspected the server, and was strengthening security. Game Freak’s notice is the company’s account of the incident; the English wording below was reproduced in Nintendo Life’s report.

The statement confirms a personal-information breach. It does not say that Pokémon game source code or development plans were leaked, and it does not validate any particular game-related file or claim.

What leak reports said about Generation 10

In October 2024, Engadget and Nintendo Life reported claims circulating in connection with the breach. Among them were “Gaia,” described as a purported internal codename for a Generation 10 project, and “Ounce,” described as a purported codename associated with a Nintendo Switch successor.

These labels are not official Pokémon game titles or confirmed product names. The reports attributed them to alleged leaked material; Game Freak’s notice did not confirm them, establish a release plan, or verify the purported source code. The available reporting also does not establish a reliable total amount of game-development data that was leaked.

Were scrapped Pokémon Legends: Z-A ideas leaked?

Pokémon Legends: Z-A was officially announced, with Lumiose City and Nintendo Switch systems identified in reporting about the announcement. That confirms the game’s existence and announced context—not claims about its development history.

The sources available here do not substantiate which Z-A ideas, if any, were scrapped, why they may have been cut, or whether descriptions circulating online came from authentic internal builds. GamesRadar+’s October 2024 coverage noted that the company’s notice addressed the personal-information breach rather than game information, and cautioned that leak claims could be false. It also said it had not seen hard evidence at that time that the alleged source code was circulating. Without direct, reliable support, specific lists of supposedly discarded mechanics should be treated as unverified.

How to judge claims about the Pokémon leak

Not all material described as a “leak” has the same evidentiary status. Use the source and its wording to distinguish a confirmed event from an attributed report or online speculation.

  • Official company statement: Game Freak confirmed unauthorized server access and the exposure of personal information. Its notice did not confirm game-development content.
  • Newsroom reporting: Engadget, Nintendo Life, and GamesRadar+ reported or assessed claims about alleged game material. Attribute details to the outlet and date, and preserve terms such as “purported” or “alleged” where the claims were not verified.
  • Unattributed posts and fan speculation: Reposts, screenshots, and interpretations without reliable provenance do not establish that a file is authentic or that a proposed feature or timeline is real.

For current information about upcoming Pokémon titles, Pokémon Support says announcements will be posted on pokemon.com once public, and that it cannot answer questions about titles not announced there. Its guidance is more useful for checking official status than treating a leak codename or fan timeline as confirmation. A GamesRadar+ guide to Pokémon Winds and Waves likewise labels leak material as allegations or rumors, but secondary coverage is not a substitute for an official announcement.
