How to start “Meat is Murder”
- Complete Main Mission 2, “Recruitment Drive.”
- Travel to Harper’s Hideaway in the Coastal Bonescape, in the Fadefields, and defeat the Rippers around the area.
- Find the barn and shoot the barricade blocking the room where Byron is held. Speak with Byron to begin the side mission.
Investigate the barn
Follow Byron into the barn and interact with all four highlighted clues. Wait for each interaction’s dialogue and objective-counter update before moving on.

- The remains on the table.
- The Ripper bodies.
- The animal carcass near the entrance.
- The scratched metal panel on the wall.
How to stop the grinder
Inspect the radio beside the remains. The sequence reveals Harper hanging above the grinder. Use the nearby control platform to activate the kill switch, then leave through the rear/right-side exit. The switch does not stop the grinder: open both coolant regulator housings outside and shoot the component inside each one.
Return to the barn, shoot Harper down, and inspect the body and its radio. Rippers attack after the radio message; defeat them to continue.

Where to find the cave beyond the waterfall
Follow the mission marker to the nearby settlement and speak with Otis, the shop owner. His lead points to a cave beyond a waterfall in Plungeford. Follow the marker north through the area, clear enemies if they block the route, and break the boards covering the cave entrance.
Defeat Zeke and finish the mission
Enter the cave and fight Zeke. Once he is defeated, interact with his radio to complete “Meat is Murder.” The mission introduces the Grin Reaper through its radio messages.

Mission rewards
Guides list XP, cash, Eridium, a pistol, and the Tropic of Cairn Vault Hunter style as rewards. The pistol’s listed rarity range is green to purple. Borderlands4.net reports 4,200 XP, $12,458, and 18 Eridium, but those exact amounts are guide-reported rather than independently confirmed; the detailed PowerPyx listing does not specify quantities.
If an objective seems stuck
- Clue count or dialogue has not advanced: wait for the clue dialogue to finish, then check the objective counter before leaving the barn.
- The grinder is still running: activating the kill switch is only part of the objective. Exit the barn and destroy both coolant regulators.
- You cannot reach Byron: clear the Rippers around Harper’s Hideaway, then shoot the barricade blocking the room where he is held.
- The cave entrance is blocked: follow the marker north through Plungeford and break the boards over the entrance beyond the waterfall.
What this mission unlocks later
PowerPyx lists completing “Meat is Murder” as one requirement for the later side mission “A Call for Help.” The other listed requirement is Main Mission 14, “His Vile Sanctum.”
