memdump_x64_rwdi.dll is a 64-bit Dying Light game DLL, not a Windows system file. If memdump_x64_rwdi.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, restore it through Steam rather than downloading a replacement from a DLL website.

Fix 1: Verify Dying Light in Steam
This is the safest and most likely repair because Steam obtains the file from the game’s own installation source.
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click Dying Light.
- Select Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for Steam to finish.
- Restart Steam and launch Dying Light again.
Steam compares the local installation with its records and reacquires missing or damaged files. A successful repair may show a download or update before the game starts normally.

If Steam reports that files were reacquired but the same error returns, restart Windows and repeat the verification once. Repeated reacquisition points to a deeper problem such as antivirus quarantine, disk errors, permissions, insufficient free space, or modified game files.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove a game DLL after an update, scan, or change in detection rules. Do not assume the detection is a false positive without checking the exact file and its origin.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries related to Dying Light or
memdump_x64_rwdi.dll. - Open the entry and inspect its details.
- If the file was quarantined, restore it only when it clearly came from your genuine Dying Light installation.
- Run Steam’s Verify integrity of game files again.
Microsoft warns that a restored file can be detected again. Do not allow or restore an unknown copy downloaded from elsewhere. If the detection continues, leave the file quarantined and contact the security vendor or Techland rather than adding a broad exclusion for the entire Windows or Steam folders.

Unofficial DLLs, mods, injectors, overlays, and tuning utilities can prevent the game from loading even when the named file exists.
Temporarily remove unofficial modifications from the Dying Light folder. Do not delete your save files. Then:
- Exit Dying Light and Steam.
- Disable non-essential overlays, including recording, monitoring, and graphics overlay software.
- Start Steam.
- Verify Dying Light’s files again.
- Launch the unmodified game.
If the game works afterward, re-enable modifications one at a time. The last change that reproduces the failure is the likely conflict.
Fix 4: Distinguish the missing DLL from a missing dependency
The wording of the dialog matters.

- “The program can’t start because memdump_x64_rwdi.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because memdump_x64_rwdi.dll was not found.”
Verify Dying Light in Steam. Do not copy the file into a Windows system directory.
A dependency is absent
“Error loading memdump_x64_rwdi.dll. The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of the DLL is missing. The named file may still be present.
If the dialog specifically names MSVCR100.dll, install or repair the official Visual C++ 2010 x64 package from Microsoft. If it names MSVCR110.dll, install or repair the official Visual C++ 2012 x64 package from Microsoft.
Install the runtime that the error identifies. Do not install a Visual C++ package merely because memdump_x64_rwdi.dll is missing. Older Visual C++ runtimes can be required alongside newer packages.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Open Steam.
- Verify Dying Light’s files.
- Launch the game.
The DLL is incompatible or corrupt
A message saying the file is “not designed to run on Windows” or that it “contains an error” can indicate corruption, the wrong architecture, blocking, or a bad dependency. Replace it through Steam verification. A matching-looking 64-bit download is not a safe substitute.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components only when Windows itself is failing
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They normally do not recreate a missing DLL owned by Dying Light, so use Steam verification first.
Open Start, type Command Prompt, right-click it, select Run as administrator, and run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to complete. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands finish and test Dying Light again. If either command reports that it could not complete, note the result and repair Windows before repeating the game troubleshooting.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time when the real issue is a game file or a driver. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what needs attention; its repair functions require the full version, and reinstalling Dying Light remains the definitive fix for a missing game-owned DLL.
Fix 6: Update Windows and graphics drivers
A recent Windows update, graphics driver installation, or system change can cause a launch failure unrelated to memdump_x64_rwdi.dll.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart the computer.
Then update the graphics driver through the graphics manufacturer’s official software or support channel. You can also inspect the current driver in Device Manager:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the adapter’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver when available. For a severely damaged driver, uninstalling it and installing a fresh official package may be more effective.
Manually hunting through driver versions can be slow, especially when several devices show outdated packages. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; its driver installation features require the full version, and it is not a replacement for verifying or reinstalling Dying Light.
Fix 7: Reinstall Dying Light
If verification cannot restore the file, reinstall the game through Steam.
- Open Steam Library.
- Right-click Dying Light.
- Select Manage.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Steam.
- Install Dying Light again.
- Run the game before adding mods or overlays.
Techland’s reinstall guidance indicates that reinstalling the Steam game does not normally delete game progress, but preserve important saves before making major changes. After installation, launch the unmodified game first.
If the file disappears again immediately after reinstalling, check Protection history, available disk space, drive health, folder permissions, and Steam Cloud synchronization. A damaged drive or security product can remove a correctly installed file repeatedly.

Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent system change
If Dying Light worked until a driver, Windows update, or software installation, System Restore may help.
- Open Start and search for Create a restore point.
- Open the result.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Complete the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore changes system files, settings, and installed programs. It does not normally remove personal files, but save work and close applications first.

Do not download the DLL from a random website
Third-party DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong architecture, a mismatched build, or a modified file. Even a clean-looking copy may not fix the missing dependency or the damaged Steam installation.
Use Steam to restore Dying Light files. Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ packages only when the error names the corresponding runtime.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
memdump_x64_rwdi.dll is a game-owned 64-bit file. Copying it into Windows system folders does not repair Dying Light and can create path confusion. A 64-bit DLL also cannot repair a 32-bit application.
Do not use regsvr32 routinely
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary game or runtime DLL generally is not registered this way. Running commands such as these is not a valid standard repair:
regsvr32 memdump_x64_rwdi.dll
Restore the file through Steam instead.
Do not use registry cleaners
Registry cleaners and generic DLL repair utilities do not provide the original Dying Light file and can remove unrelated configuration.

Frequently asked questions
Is memdump_x64_rwdi.dll a Windows file?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with Dying Light and belongs in the game’s installation directory, not in System32 or SysWOW64.
Is it safe?
A genuine copy restored by Steam is the correct source. Do not label an arbitrary copy safe based only on its filename. If antivirus detected the installed file, inspect Protection history and verify the installation rather than blindly disabling security.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public records identify it as a 64-bit, x64 DLL. Do not use it as a replacement for a 32-bit component.
Should I install Visual C++ first?
Only when the error names a missing runtime such as MSVCR100.dll or MSVCR110.dll. For a direct memdump_x64_rwdi.dll missing message, verify Dying Light first.
What if the game still will not launch after reinstalling?
Disable mods and overlays, update Windows and graphics drivers, run DISM followed by SFC if Windows corruption is suspected, and test again. If the failure continues, contact Techland support with dxdiag.txt and the Dying Light crash logs from:
