The well-documented deal involved the 128GB headset at about $249, usually paired with a retailer-specific Best Buy or Target gift card. Older pages can remain indexed after promotions end, and a current Target listing has shown a 15% promotion without confirming the same $50 gift card.
Before buying, check the exact retailer listing, storage capacity, seller, checkout price, gift-card issuer, issuance timing and expiration terms. Do not treat an old deal page as proof that the offer is live on September 14, 2026.

The deal at a glance
| Detail | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|
| Product | Primarily the 128GB Meta Quest 3S |
| Historical price | About $249, compared with the original $299.99 U.S. starting price |
| Gift card | Usually a $50 Best Buy gift card or $50 Target GiftCard, depending on the retailer |
| Other extras | Some versions included The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Meta Horizon+ or other retailer-specific benefits |
| Current status | Not independently verified as a still-active offer; historical pages may be expired |
The original 128GB and 256GB Quest 3S models launched in 2024, with the entry configuration starting at $299.99 in the U.S., according to Meta’s launch announcement. Historical holiday coverage documented a 128GB model at approximately $249 with a $50 retailer gift card; WIRED’s report described a Best Buy version with The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and a $50 Best Buy gift card.
Why the headline may be stale
Search results and deal pages are not the same as a live promotion. A historical Target deal record for the 128GB Quest 3S at $249.99 with a $50 Target GiftCard is explicitly marked expired. A Best Buy indexed page showing a $249 Walking Dead bundle was crawled months ago and does not establish that the offer remains available now.

Target’s indexed Quest category has shown a 15% promotion on Quest 3S models, but the available result does not verify a simultaneous $50 gift card. Target also says some broad promotions exclude Meta Quest products, so the product page and checkout—not a general coupon banner—should determine eligibility. See Target’s Quest category and its promotion rules.
What “$50 off” actually means
Older coverage generally compared the $249 sale price with the original $299.99 price, making the discount roughly $50. However, reports from April 2026 said Meta increased Quest 3S list prices to approximately $349.99 for 128GB and $449.99 for 256GB. That change was reported by Tom’s Guide; it should be treated as reported secondary coverage unless confirmed by the retailer or Meta’s current store page.
Consequently, a current $249 price—if a retailer offers one—could represent about $100 below the reported newer list price, not simply $50 off. Use the retailer’s own “was” or comparable-value price, and distinguish the amount charged at checkout from any later gift-card value.

How to verify the offer before ordering
- Choose the exact SKU. Confirm that it is a new Meta Quest 3S, not a Quest 3, refurbished unit, accessory or different storage tier.
- Check storage. The historical $249 offers primarily covered 128GB. Do not assume the 256GB model qualifies for the same price or gift card.
- Confirm the seller. Marketplace listings may not qualify. Look for the retailer itself as seller and verify shipping or pickup eligibility for your ZIP code.
- Read the offer terms. The cart or product page should identify the gift-card issuer, amount, qualifying dates and any “while supplies last” language.
- Check when the card arrives. Target’s historical instructions said the promotional card was applied after the item shipped or was picked up. Best Buy promotional e-gift cards can also be associated with the qualifying order under separate terms; review Best Buy’s offer rules.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the order details showing both the qualifying headset and the promotional benefit.
- Understand returns. A retailer may reduce the refund by the value of a promotional gift card, or require the card to be returned. Do not treat the credit as unrestricted cash.
Retailer gift card versus Meta Quest gift card
The issuer changes the offer’s practical value:
- Best Buy gift card: generally useful toward eligible Best Buy purchases, subject to the promotion’s terms.
- Target GiftCard: generally usable at Target, subject to Target’s terms and any restrictions.
- Amazon promotional credit: may have delayed issuance, an expiration date or product-specific restrictions.
- Meta Quest gift card: intended for Quest apps, games and experiences, not general retail purchases. A separate Best Buy listing for a $50 Meta Quest gift card says redemption is U.S.-only.
For that reason, “$50 gift card” is incomplete deal language. A $249 headset plus a $50 Target card is not the same offer as a $249 headset plus $50 of Meta account credit.
Quest 3S versus Quest 3
The Quest 3S is not simply identical to the Quest 3 at a lower price. Meta describes the 3S as offering similar performance and mixed-reality capabilities, but the two headsets use different optics.

| Choose the Quest 3S when… | Choose the Quest 3 when… |
|---|---|
| You want the lowest-cost entry into current standalone Quest software. | You care more about visual clarity and long-session comfort. |
| You are a first-time VR buyer, casual gamer or family sharing the headset. | You read text, use virtual displays or are sensitive to lens sweet spots. |
| Fresnel lenses are an acceptable trade-off for a lower price. | You want pancake lenses and a larger usable visual sweet spot. |
| 128GB is enough for the games you expect to install. | The price gap is small enough to justify better optics and storage. |
The Quest 3S remains a sensible buy at a genuinely low live price, especially for casual gaming and mixed-reality experimentation. Consider the 256GB 3S if the buyer expects a large library or the price difference is modest. Consider the Quest 3 if optical clarity matters more than the lowest entry price.

Buy the 128GB Quest 3S when the live listing clearly confirms a price of $249.99 or less—or an unusually strong equivalent—and identifies the gift-card issuer, qualifying seller and terms. The gift card should be useful to you; its face value is not the same as cash.

Wait when the only evidence is an old article, the gift card does not appear in the cart or terms, the listing is from a third-party seller, or the discount depends on a delayed credit you may not use. Also compare the 256GB Quest 3S and Quest 3 if the effective price difference is small.
